I teach critical thinking, and so I know that small samples are rarely representative. I'd been to one Korean fried chicken place-- Two Two. It was in Korea, but again it was only once, to only one place. Nevertheless, it disappointed me; I thought Korean fried chicken was supposed to be good. Although I suggested HOF & Soju for my birthday, I secretly thought that it wouldn't be all that good.I was dead wrong.(Sorry the picture is so terrible.)The fried chicken here is perfect in every way. I was dead wrong.
The fried chicken here is perfect in every way. The breading is crispy and tasty without being overly thick. The chicken inside is juicy and tender... better than Popeye's (and that's US Popeye's, not the noticeably-worse HK Popeye's at the airport). It's got some genuine (if not too serious) spice, and also some other aromatics (maybe 5 spice powder?).
Sometimes Japanese fried stuff (like the pork sandwiches) will be drenched in a sickeningly sweet sauce, that makes the crispy breading all soggy. There was a little bit of that here, but I think the restaurant is nicely judicious. Most of the chicken pieces had only a light drizzling of sauce, which added to their flavor. One of the pieces was soaked and much worse for the experience, but on the whole the sauce did not take away from the experience.
I had better fried chicken recently when I visited my parents in Texas... at a place called Earl Abel's in San Antonio. STILL, the chicken at HOF was fantastic. Both my wife and I were simply floored that we had found such good chicken in HK. I never would have thought it possible, and I recommend this without reservation to anyone who's not a vegetarian. Excellent: A+
These are "assorted fries" and you get waffle fries, potato wedges, and crinkle-cut fries. Aim for the waffle fries and move down to the potato wedges when you're finished. The crinkle-cut fries are meh-- but the other ones are nicely seasoned. They're all piping hot. Good: B+
There's a place down the street from HOF called Fairyland that serves Korean fried chicken, and is pretty well rated. I might try that next time, but that is the ONLY reason I won't come back here immediately next time I have a fried chicken craving. You want chicken? This place has got some of the best. Highly recommended.
題外話/補充資料:
If you can get a seat near the TV, do. The K-pop makes the experience much more fun.
