The restaurant is small and seating is tight so a credit card was required to secure our reservation. We were told there are 2 seatings for lunch so we needed to arrive prompt at 12 and be ready to leave by 1pm. We were served with a delicate appetizer of fresh vegetables with a miso dipping sauce. We ordered our lunch sets 2 days in advance to ensure the food was ready when we were seated due to the time constraints I guess. We ordered 1 premium set and 1 normal pork to try the different tastes and textures of the pork. To be honest we didn’t really notice much difference. The pork is low temperature deep fried, the pork is super tender and even though the cheaper version had a bit more fat we didn’t find the pork to be super tasty. The crispiness of the breadcrumbs is not as crispy as your traditional tonkatsu due to the low heat frying technique.
The dessert was supposed to be Yuzu sorbet but it seems we were served plain vanilla ice cream instead which was a bit disappointing. Perhaps they forgot that to tell us that lunch menu sets were only served plain vanilla ice cream.
Service is very prompt and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. The Japanese chefs are very softly spoken. We were glad to have tried this but not sure if it would be my first choice for Katsu in Hong Kong.
