It seems I always try to find a place that serves Hainan chicken rice. I love it that much. So when I saw this listing called 後生仔海南雞1998 (English name: The Young's Hainan Chicken), I was curious. It had Hainan chicken it the name! The place had a really mural on the wall along with a lot of other art work. The place wasn't very big but at least you didn't feel cramped.Menu is in Chinese only. I came here for Hainan chicken rice ($45) and that is what I had. It arrived in a nifty plate. The chicken was a bit tough and wasn't really seasoned so you do need the sauce. You have a choice of yelllow rice or lard drizzled rice so I chose yellow. It was a bit dry and yes, also not much flavor. They served bland cabbage. It was a big portion size but I didn't really like it much.
Boyfriend, on the other hand, ordered the crab yellow curry with lemongrass pork chop and rice ($48). The pork chop was super dry and not too flavorful despite the amount of lemongrass shreds on top. However, the curry was excellent. Rich and packed with flavor. There were a bit of crab bits.
Food was ok but big portions. Food also comes out super slow. It took 30 minutes to get served and it wasn't too busy. Though the staff did apologize for the wait as they were deboning the chicken. It has potential so may be back.
