Katong Laksa was one of the few restaurants that I would go to for Singaporean food. Although the food served at Katong Laksa is not comparable to what we are used to having in Singapore, the laksa has been acceptable. However, the food we had tonight was appalling. Katong Laksa was one of the few restaurants that I would go to for Singaporean food. Although the food served at Katong Laksa is not comparable to what we are used to having in Singapore, the laksa has been acceptable. However, the food we had tonight was appalling. The prawn mee with squid balls had only 2 halves of a tiny shrimp, 3 squid balls, 2 halves of a dried tofu (i.e ONE dried tofu) and some vegetables. You would have expected more than ONE prawn when you ordered PRAWN MEE. So you can imagine the shock we had after ransacking the whole bowl of noodles, turning it inside out to only find what was equivalent to ONE SMALL shrimp! The soup is supposed to be the essence of the prawn mee but it did not have any hint of prawn and it tasted like any other simple soup base with lots of pepper. For $34, the prawn mee was way overpriced.

As for the mee siam (米暹), the bee hoon/ vermicelli / 米粉was barely cooked! Majority of the vermicelli was still too hard even after we soaked it in the soup for sometime.

Service was bad too. The waitress who served us pretended that we did not need water even though she has obviously reached over an empty glass twice. It is a pity that we will have to wait till we visit Singapore before we can have decent prawn mee again. We doubt we will ever return to the restaurant again.
