Boyfriend met me for lunch and we decided to go nearby my place to have a burger before going to the grocery store in this building. But when we got here, that place had closed! In it's place was a sandwich shop called Out of the Blue. Definitely out of the blue! I had no expected this at all. It seemed to serve sandwiches and rice bowls. Deciding to give it a try, we headed in.The restaurant, though not very big, is very colorful. The staff was super friendly as well.Menu is in English and Chin
The restaurant, though not very big, is very colorful. The staff was super friendly as well.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge and you order and pay at the cashier. The memu has various optional combo discounts for drinks and snacks.
While we were there, they were just putting up the tea set menu as well which consisted of croffles. Drinks here are 50% off.
Boyfriend had the Iced Butterfly Pea Flower with Lemonade ($22, but as he ordered the croffle tea set it was half price). Pretty to look at as butterfly pea usually is. There was enough lemonade to please and sweetened also with the carbonated drink.
If you order any sandwich or rice bowl, they have various combo options. We decided to get the $15 combo with today's drink and snack so we could share the snack.
Today's drink was a Hot Elderflower Flavour Tea with Lime. I love elderflower tea as it's lightly floral without being too strong. I liked they added some lime to make it even more soothing.
The snack of the day was Deep Fried Siu Mai. I love deep fried siu mai! You can choose to have it spicy or not. I chose not spicy. I appreciated that they didn't compensate by adding extra salt and pepper. They just left it as that. Just a simple deep fried siu mai which is how I like it. Crispy and and good taste of fish meat.
I had the Taiwanese Style Fried Chicken and Fried Egg Sandwich ($42). The sandwich was filled with lots of stuff but not too much that I couldn't eat it in one bite. Everything held together without falling too much apart so it wasn't messy eating. Bread was lighlty toasted. The chicken meat so juicy and tender. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. But what I loved the most? The fried egg. It was so light and fluffy.
Boyfriend had the Fried Egg, Shrimp Cake, Cuttlefish Cake and Fish Cake Sandwich with Wasabi Sauce ($42). This was interesting! Three different meat cakes in a sandwich. Why hadn't I thought of that? They even added some dried shrimp to give it a little crunch. The meat cakes were firm and bouncy. There was a tiny hint of wasabi sauce. Not too much to be overpowering. Just enough to give it flavour. This would be a repeat for me.
As they just put out the afternoon tea menu and boyfriend was still hungry and he could get a 50% discount on his drink, we tried croffle. They have both savory and sweet versions. We decided on a sweet: Matcha Jam, Matcha Powder, Red Bean Puree, Mochi Croffle ($36). There was so much mochi! It was soft and stretchy. I love mochi. The coroffle was cut in two to make it like a sandwich. A scoop of azuki paste was in the middle along with on the side. A warabi mochi was also there.
A really good sandwich place that I will return again as I live so close by. Super convenient for me to grab a meal. Service is very friendly and they seemed like a small family run business. A welcome addition to this shopping center.
