This was an unplanned visit. It's 13:20 -- I was very hungry, and I was wandering along Stanley St looking for take-outs when I was attracted by the aroma coming out of Monster Burger, and the big crowd in front of the store on the sidewalk.I am not fond of queues or crowds. This was an unplanned visit. It's 13:20 -- I was very hungry, and I was wandering along Stanley St looking for take-outs when I was attracted by the aroma coming out of Monster Burger, and the big crowd in front of the store on the sidewalk.

I am not fond of queues or crowds. But seeing that the queue seemed to be moving and that I was not planning to eat in, I decided to give it a try. BIG MISTAKE. Don't get me wrong -- I was able to reach the cashier in only 2-3 minutes. I thought I could get my order quickly, like at McD. When I turned around, one of the staff yelled, "Number 89". Only then I realized that the big crowd wasn't for dining in. They were all waiting for their take-outs! Well, my ticket says #110, taken at 13:23. By the time I got my order and struggled through the crowd out the door, it's 13:43. Despite being a bit long, the twenty-minute wait wasn't too unpleasant, as the air-conditioning was working really well. BUT, when I came out, my hair and all my clothes stinked like xxxx!!! It's now an hour later, and I can still smell it and the odor will probably stay for the whole day.

Enough of the experience. So, what about the food? First, let me tell you that I do not eat beef burgers at fast food chains -- only at diners and steakhouses. I do eat fried pork chop buns from HK tea restaurants. I like the patty quite meaty, and I like fresh crispy bunds. So, given the nice meat smell at the store, I had high expectations for the Monster burgers. Yes, two burgers -- I was very hungry. And instead of putting all eggs into one basket in ordering a double cheese burger, I ordered a Monster Burger set with salad, and a single Pork Chop Crunch burger.

My office was only a few miniutes away. So, the burgers were still quite warm and weren't too soggy. First, the Monster burger. The patty was thick, but not juicy, and not much taste to it, even with the onions in it. It's quite hard. The buns were dry, and almost stale-looking *yikes* The lettuce, tomato and onions were fresh. The whole burger was quite thick and I couldn't get the bun and the meat at the same time. With the sauce overflowing, the whole thing got really messy. For the Pork Chop Crunch burger, the crisp inside was a delight. It provided the burger with a different texture, and it was delicious. But apart from that, the Pork burger is just like the Monster Burger. Unimpressive. The potato salad was at least chilled, and I like the shredded carrots mixed into it. I was hoping for a green salad instead of something so filling. Perhaps Monster Burger may consider changing the menu.

Overall, food was edible. Price is reasonable for the Central area. Good portion. Good air-conditioning. Bring a change of clothes if you do not want to smell like a burger for the rest of the day.
