This is the third time I've been to this restaurant and I think it would have to take the restaurant to gain "4 Michelin Stars" to convince me to visit again. To be honest, there is nothing wrong with the food but the chef Kato-san is a "big" man with a lot of character. This is the third time I've been to this restaurant and I think it would have to take the restaurant to gain "4 Michelin Stars" to convince me to visit again. To be honest, there is nothing wrong with the food but the chef Kato-san is a "big" man with a lot of character. I would like to share my experience with you for I believe dining should always be an enjoyable event.

My Mrs. and myself as usual were seated at the sushi counter, we ordered ahn liver ( 安鱇魚肝), salted sea cucumber intestine (鼠尾腸) to start with. 鼠尾腸 is considered one of the three delicacies 三大珍味 in Japanese cuisine, the texture is crisp and similar to that of chicken cartilage. We moved on to sashimi (choice was limited this evening): scallop, sardine (they considerately kept the ginger and spring onion separate from the vinegar based dipping for the sardine) and 針魚. 針魚 is lighter in flavour as compared with sardine but the texture is crunchy. In between we also had various dishes of izakaya food and ordered 南部美人 jinjo to complement with the sardine. After sashimi we progressed to treat ourselves with some sushi, when we asked Kato-san for his recommendation, he responded by "how would I know what you like, just order whatever you want". I believe my Mrs was inquiring out of decent courtesy and I didn't expect this kind of communication. To avoid conflicts we politely went ahead with ordering a few types of sushi: toro, sea urchin and 池魚. Kato-san's larger-than-life attitude is further demonstrated by his literally chucking the sushi onto our plate and the sushi were loosely held together.

Abruptly Kato-san retreated to the backroom and with our stomachs only half full we did not have the mood to continue eating or drinking anymore, the friendly waiting staff who remembered us from prior visits kindly offered their apology. It feels like going to a cinema and having to leave without watching the end of the movie, if you know what I mean.
