The first time I walked past this I passed a lot of judgement as to what they are aiming for - healthy boba? The drinks in this place were designed with a twist of traditional chinese medicine in mind - while the English translation noted 'Elixir' as a drink name, the ingredients itself are highly praised in Chinese culture/cuisine as a good ingredient of health and longevity (or health/healing properties for your Chi). If you do not enjoy some of more traditional chinese herb taste - suggest sticking to the more well known ingredients such as matcha/chai latte.
They also allow you swap out the white sugar with a monk-fruit sugar - great for those who are diabetic and want to keep their blood sugar low. So while this place is no fruit smoothie or vegetable/protein shake place - it does a good job to provide a (healthy) Chinese alternative at the frowned upon high sugar/fat/cold boba-type drinks.
My 'elixir' was warm (could be better if it was more hot!) but otherwise feels very authentically Chinese with grass jelly and almond-meal-dessert like mix. I do feel they fail to mix it properly.. and I wasn't given really a stick to stir with either (to be fair I didn't realise you should stir it until I found the almond meal ..... at the bottom of the cup when I finished my drink)
