Walking by, Herbivores looked cozy and inviting, with a spacious, wooden communal table taking up most of the space. It was dim, but not dark, the menus done up in chalk and board - brunch, mocktails (at six weeks old, they hadn't gotten their liquor license yet), espressos, dinner, et al. As their name implies, they're a vegetarian restaurant, with vegan options as well.I ordered the basil pesto penne, avocado dip with nacho chips, and two mocktails - The Herbivore and Meditation. I ordered the basil pesto penne, avocado dip with nacho chips, and two mocktails - The Herbivore and Meditation. The penne was served al dente, but a little too undercooked and dry. The taste tried to come off as subtle, but was instead bland. Better quality basil would improve the recipe a heap and pair with the penne a lot better. The avocado dip, ostensibly a watered-down guacamole, was too creamy and didn't taste like much.
Mocktails were refreshing and novel. The Herbivore had mint, lemongrass, and some other things in there, and Meditation was cucumber, lemon, and white grape juice. Alcohol in them would be a definite bonus.
My server was lovely, helpful, and attentive. Desserts and brunch seemed worth another trip for, but dinner definitely wasn't anything to recommend to others.
