Around the beginning of December 2022 Grain will begin advertising its Christmas Roast 2022 with about a HK$400 price tag. You will begin to try to make a reservation for the family and friends, imagining how nice it might be to gather for the holidays, especially if you live in the nearby, gentrified Kennedy Town neighborhood. You needn't bother. Because after you make your early afternoon booking (because it's, you know. so busy) you'll arrive to discover that, voila! there is no Christmas

You needn't bother. Because after you make your early afternoon booking (because it's, you know. so busy) you'll arrive to discover that, voila! there is no Christmas Roast after all, even though it'd been advertised on the Internet for weeks. Because you see, it's sold out by early afternoon. Which means you are left with the standard brunch menu of marginally passable items and sour coffee.
To top it all off, you will see Christmas Roast items still being actively prepared, for folks who were smart enough to order take-out boxes (maybe they had the same experience as we the prior year). Be sure to thank the proprietor on your way out for the brilliant bait-and-switch scheme, and that hip, urban vibe which made all of this acceptable.
Our only caveat: Grain may not be in business by Christmas 2022. Don't blame COVID for it.
