On the dinner of the 25th we decided to search some restaurants around the Wan Chai area for a family gathering and found Che's Cantonese, which looked quite good from the outside. We head up and had a look at the menu before deciding to get a table. Once we get seated and we start ordering, the manager, or waiter, comes and suggests to try a few signature dishes which sounded appealing so we decided to go for them.
The dishes were braised fish (we asked for fish belly and we didn't get fish belly, taste was under expectations), the salt & pepper ribs (although tasty were small and quite dry), and a few Chinese vegetables.
Then he talked about these fantastic pan fried oysters (dry and not very nice) and that this was the right season to have them. We decided to order 3 of them (for five people) to have a try. Last dish, was king prawns with dry pan fried noodles (Chiu Chow Style, only dish that was worth any consideration).
Got one beer and some hot water as drinks.
Food was ok ish, but guess how much was the bill for these few dishes?
Just below HKD1800 for a less than average Chinese dinner! The vegetables costed something around HKD300 (and there wasn't much) and the braised fish around HKD700 (and did not get the part that we asked for)!
Complete disappointment, this place should be really avoided. It's not about the money itself, but rather what value is offered for the money. That was a really dishonest act.
If you're looking for some nice Chinese food and environment, and don't mind the price you should really try somewhere else. There's too much around to waste money and time here.
