Viet Thai is a self-explanatory Vietnamese and Thai restaurant in Fortress Hill, just 5 mins walk from MTR. The restaurant is spacious and decorated with a lot of green elements and furniture. I have chosen a window seat facing the road which I liked a let especially when you are dining alone. After taking a few suggestions from the staff, I have decided to order a salad, a main and a drink as my early dinner. I have chosen a window seat facing the road which I liked a let especially when you are dining alone. After taking a few suggestions from the staff, I have decided to order a salad, a main and a drink as my early dinner.
Pomelo & Shrimp Salad ($85)
I always like to order this dish when I am going to a Thai restaurant, but this salad topped most of other same price range restaurants because of its very fresh pomelo and perfectly cooked shrimps. The salad was topped with fried sliced garlic and onions, and dressed with spicy vinegary Thai sauce. Complementing with frseh ingredients, the salad was a great appetising dish before any main courses.
Look at the shrimp below, they were all halved and looked very shiny like glass. It was just cooked through and the colour was almost transparent.
Mixed Seafood and Tom Yum Gung Pho ($68)
There were lots of Thai condiments for you to use and I have added a little bit of the spicy vinegar sauce because I like my tom yum a bit more sour.
The size for quite generous for the price, the bowl was filled with glass noodles absorbed all the tom yum soup. However, the soup was actually a lot milder than I expected. It was spicy however it didn't have a strong seafood taste to it.
There were also lots of seafood includign calamari, mussel, shrimp and small clams. There were all okay except the calamari was a bit rubbery, but the shrimps were as fresh as the ones from salad.
I particularly liked how they added quite a bit of lemongrass and coriander to the soup, making it a dish full of South East Asia influences. Young Coconut ($30)
Tasted refreshing and hydrating. The coconut was young and chilled. It was pretty easy to scrape out the coconut meat if you fancy eating them!
On the menu, there are a lot of tea set, afternoon set and dinner set. The price is very affordable for all dishes and staff are all very nice and helpful. I would come again if I happen to be around for a quick and easy meal.
