Since I have a play to watch in the North Point cinema today so I have decided to drop by this French restaurant which is just 2 mins walk away. It seems to me that the building has been renovated recently and everything looks clean and fresh, which gave me confidence as soon as I arrived. The open space dining area is comfortably set up, while the most attractive thing to me would be the blackboard that is next to my table. Customers may check the daily specials as well as the oysters in-stock.
It seems to me that the building has been renovated recently and everything looks clean and fresh, which gave me confidence as soon as I arrived.
There were two kinds of breads, white and pumpernickel's, served with soft butter and garlic butter. I liked the garlic butter more which gave an aromatic garlic taste to the toasted bread.
I also like the serving size as I don't want to make myself too full before any dishes, meanwhile, don't want to waste too much bread as I could usually only try 1 or 2 types.
Prawn salad with green papaya
A more Thai inspired salad, served with two fresh big prawns. The sweet and sour salad was very appetising and it was not spicy at all, compared to the real Thai ones, a good match with bouncy fresh prawns twisted together.
Beetroot soup
Two options were actually available: beetroot soup and cream of mushroom soup. Without a doubt, I have chosen beetroot soup not only it's heathy but also not a common soup to find in any restaurants.
The soup was also made with carrot, onion, and tomatoes. It was surprisingly sweet and sour probably from the tomatoes and carrots. Since beets has a very subtle taste, the tomatoes flavour was actually the most prominent ingredient. This thin soup would be good for those who like healthy tomato soup, but personally, I liked it and you should try things out.
There were three lamb T-bone in a dish so make sure your stomach has enough room for them! The main dish was also served with some side veggies including mashed potato, zucchini, carrots, and tomatoes.
One thing I found is that each bone was actually wrapped with bacon and herbs. The edge was super crispy and delicious with lots of mixed flavour, while the centre was purely gamey lamb flavours.
Although there were still some pink in the middle but overall it was pretty over-cooked and dried in the centre although the edge was still a bit moist because that's where all the fat is locating.
As a coffee over, it was a bit of a turn off to see the restaurant added milk and syrup for me. I in fact like unsweetened black coffee, which is completed opposite to what they served me. Since I was rushing to go and watch the play nearby, I had no time nor patience to re-order another one so I better stick with it just for a quick caffeine fix.
題外話/補充資料:
remember to mention your preference towards your dishes beforehand to avoid disappointment.
