More about the restaurant:
Friend and I came for a weekday lunch. It was a short walk from Sai Ying Pun MTR station and we waited for only a few tables (but noted there was a queue throughout the lunch hour till almost 2pm). Many of the diners were students. The guy at the door handing out tickets and paper menus seemed to be the big boss. Friendly and chatty with his staff, he was pleasant and attentive (he noticed I was looking for napkins mid-meal and asked a staff to pass me a few from a pack they keep separately) . He was also friendly in answering a question we had about the drinks on offer - the menu of which is longer than the food menu by the way.
Not exactly a bad thing. The food offered includes all the staples you would expect from a night market in Taiwan. It might not have every one of your favourite dishes discovered on your 'night market crawl' through Taipei - but it does give you a satisfying selection when there's a week you couldn't fly off to Taipei. Space for improvement would be for the restaurant to introduce new night market dishes and rotate these in and out of the menu.
The pork in the bun was just as satisfying, but either the bun was too big or the pork too small. Probably the pork too small, given its price tag of HK$30.
A very convenient 3 minute walk from Sai Ying Pun MTR station up the hill. There's a few interesting (and old) shops around (including an egg rolls store opposite) which makes the experience feel very back-to-basics. Humbling. Standing around out front would be nicer if they had a few mist fans to complete the Taiwan experience.
題外話/補充資料:
Note tables are marked asking diners to show courtesy to those in queue and finish up their meal in 30 minutes. We weren't rushed at all during the lunch hour though even if we probably sat for a little more than that. Perhaps it's for people who sit and blow water over a cup of bubble milk tea? It is a small restaurant after all.
