Originally planned to dedicate my 4th SSP review to another shop I like, but that review comprises of more dishes and photos than the 8 photos allowed here, so I digged up another one from this area to fill the gap. I'm admittedly lazy! ****************炸多春魚 - 3/5 Ain't sure if this is more a Chinese or Japanese dish. We just ordered it for complimenting our Beers as a snack. This wasn't defrosted well enough somehow! The fishlets weren't firm enough, the eggs slightly too "collapsed". Its ok.

燒腩王 - 4.5/5
Within Hong Kong, the most famous, modernised style Roast Pork Squares probably lies synonymous with the name Lei Garden. In the past I had no problems agreeing as I liked them, but during the past year after visiting Lei Garden around 4-5 times at different outlets, I found their roast pork to be inconsistent and often missing that extra bit of taste! Plus they're universally always served too cold, therefore the fat remains at a milkily solid state and could be better! The BEST Roast Pork I have ever had recently is no doubt at 金殿堂 in Macau, that is just utterly f.k. amazing though without charcoal taste, and their more expensive Spanish pork Char Siu is very very good as well and worth a '5'. Lei Garden's signature roast to me is actually their Char Siu, as it is very good and in fact better than 灣仔福滿樓, touted to be the no.1 Char Siu in HK - whereas 福滿樓 serves a better version Roast Pork than Lei Garden. Sometimes its all so confusing for the consumers...
Anyway I wanted to debrief you on all the above only to give you a true indication of the Roast Pork's quality served here... Its quite pricey for a street stall but compared to those above and many others I haven't mentioned as its outside of scope, I found the version here to be amongst Top 3 quality. It really is that GOOD! Crunchy skin, succulent tender meat with 5 demarcated layers and from the better pork cuts, very flavoursome, served hot, gravy underneath being superb, its also served with a thick fruity soy sauce and a mixture of mustard sauce with green wasabi influence. THIS TO ME MIGHT AS WELL BE THE END OF THIS REVIEW, YOU SIMPLY COME BACK TO EAT THIS, FULLSTOP. THAT'S REGARDLESS OF HOW GOOD OR CRAP THE OTHER DISHES ARE HERE!
肉崧煮勝瓜 - 3/5
Not bad. Not alive enough in depth of taste. Too slimey.
豬肉咸蛋芥菜湯 - 3.8/5
Again not enough depth in flavour, even though 介菜 was in season back then! Luckily pork wasn't overly soda-powderised! This came as the last dish to the table - for Cantonese people this proves strange. But for most Chinese especially Northern Chinese or even Japanese, soups are meant to be drank last. What do u personally prefer?
白飯 - 4/5
The rice here is good. Not 'dirty' in taste like many food stalls, but retaining that nice rice flavour, nor too mushy. Its the minimum standard acceptable for rice in my opinion!

OVERALL - Its definitely worth it to come back for their Roast Pork, it easily one of the best ones available despite it not being charcoal grilled, yet the Roaster makes up in terms of his/her great technique using a 'digital' roaster! The other stuff ordered that night seemed forgettably-mediocre and it wasn't that cheap either, as each person paid around $150 and we thought there was a miscalculation. Perhaps they have other great dishes here that I'll need to seek out on another occasion, such as their 齊菜卷 which they ran out of, but then my overall observation so far is that food quality here lies below that of 明記 underneath 福臨門, which is priced similarly. Actually, you know what, I think I can confidently claim I cook better than here, that's despite me not being as familiar with cooking Cantonese or Chinese dishes. Perhaps I could get Michelin Bib Gourmand or half a star 1 day too! Let me practise a bit more with my wok first!
