Cadero is opened for some months already since El Cid closed down but I had never paid this restaurant a visit although I just work upstairs. This place suddenly came to my mind today and so I decided to come here for lunch by myself. A bread basket (well actually only two buns) was served immediately after I placed my order. Nothing special to mention about the bread but its good that its very warm. The soup came next which was absolutely fantastic in all presentation, taste, & portion. The topping dollop of cream made this big bowl of soup even more attractive and the soup itself wasn't overly creamy. Lots of chickpeas (a bit too much in fact that it kinda got me stuffed) cooked just right to the perfect texture. Too bad that this hearty soup wasn't served hot enough.
The main: another surprise. How can they possibly grill it to such perfection?!! A thick long strip of meat...Oh so juicy, so tender inside and delicately crispy outside!! The serving size was relatively small compared to normal, but just right for a lunch portion. The sauce was also really good (I like how its something different from the most common black pepper, mushroom, or peppercorn sauce).
Dessert: ... upsetting. Not because it tasted bad, but I was all the way kept on uphill and expected to be there through dessert! Well, this cake was nothing but a Maxim's-like product, which was still acceptable.
Coffee: A nice cup of hot coffee to wrap up today's lunch. The milk was also heated very warm.
Service: I was served by a trainee so I guess I can't expect much, especially when I knew she was trying 100% effort to serve good. She kept pacing back and forth to her supervisor to clarify things and the supervisor from time to time would teach her how & when to approach their customers. So I really don't mind being their "test". The restaurant wasn't full (and I suppose it is so for most days), just a perfect place to dine alone.
