好友下午設婚宴招待朋友後,我們幾人留下繼續喝酒歡聚,一直喝到晚飯時間。保持酒醒的4人感到胃空空的,便應友人提議一同去吃炸雞。說起吃炸雞,我只想起KFC、Jolibee及韓式炸雞店,到埗後出乎我意料之外,友人提議的竟是一間美式酒吧。星期六晚上的廈門街沒有很熱鬧,但餐廳樓下一層都坐滿了,客人主要是外籍人士,我們爬上一樓剛好有4位座。餐牌的菜式幾乎只有雞,而且是炸雞。來到這家主推炸雞的店,當然要試試他們的炸雞味道如何。我們先點了10件legs and thighs,雞膇與雞腿各放一籃,擺放有置,方便我們各取所好。炸雞件外皮有點深色,吃下去非常脆口,薄薄的一層炸粉,包著的是嫩滑的雞肉,而且醃料不會太咸,確實不錯。4人不消一會便把兩籃炸雞吃完,大家都不約而同都要求追加點菜。我們追加了Fried Chicken Nachos和Chicken Tenderloins,Chicken Tenderloins肉質嫩滑,配上ranch dressing吃下去非常滿足。而Nachos則味道一般,tortille chips不夠脆口,而cheddar cheese亦烘得太乾,還是把胃的限額留給炸雞吧﹗

我們先點了10件legs and thighs,雞膇與雞腿各放一籃,擺放有置,方便我們各取所好。炸雞件外皮有點深色,吃下去非常脆口,薄薄的一層炸粉,包著的是嫩滑的雞肉,而且醃料不會太咸,確實不錯。4人不消一會便把兩籃炸雞吃完,大家都不約而同都要求追加點菜。

It was post friend's wedding banquet and my friend & i had a lot to drink but insufficient food in stomach. The group wandered aimlessly in the wan chai area and was surprise to gem in the district. The facade wasn't particularly decorative, but the the brightness and the vibe of this little food drawn out leg forward. The fried niceties were layed flat on the red and white checkered paper calmly sitting in the holy casket. Inside, radiating with the rejuvenating glow, ooze out the spiced scent of the youthful chicken- golden crispy on top and absolute softness inside. It was as if the infant eros was been skewed by the golden arrow of love an barbecued thrice on a tamed fire- not too dry not too wet. It was just divine. Bear the holiness of the wing when you savour the wings!

Being a southerner this place feels and tastes like home, so glad to find it here. Beer selection is fantastic and the chicken is simple and delicious. Moist, lots of meat. Gravy is also authentic. Bravo.

冇味炸雞,炸得很趣,但完全沒味道。southern fried chicken 應是很野味,很香,很入味的。但這好像連salt 也沒下。Kentucky 好食好多。雖然juicy, but since no taste & for $78 for 2 small pieces - no good. 火計像很不願在這裡,一個Philipine 男的在 bar 後不停看手機。Philippine 女的是waitress, 也是做又36 唔做又36 的樣子。不來也吧! 啤酒很貴!

It's just a collection of ill-thought out gimmicks, and the kind of place that thinks filling a menu with imported IPAs is a sign of quality.The drinks were around $72-88, which doesn't sound that much higher than elsewhere, but these were all 12oz drinks in thick glasses, which is equivalent to $115-140 a pint.And as said, this was not a sign of the quality of the beers. The drinks were around $72-88, which doesn't sound that much higher than elsewhere, but these were all 12oz drinks in thick glasses, which is equivalent to $115-140 a pint.

And as said, this was not a sign of the quality of the beers. Some were good, but some were average, and some were bad. Their gin and tonic was one of the worst I've ever had.

The setting was a few benches in a cramped space, surrounded by clutter. And not like 'dive-bar' clutter; like 'sitting in a shed' clutter. The aircon wasn't nearly strong enough, so it was significantly uncomfortable (and this is only in May).  There are signs up reminding everyone to 'keep the noise down'.

They have ipad menus, which would make sense if this was some form of automation, but the ipad menus work like this: you find what you want on the ipad menu, and then you go and find a member of staff and point to what you want. So it's like a regular menu, except there are only two of them, and it takes longer.

The chicken is good.

But somehow I managed to spend $300 without being full or drunk.
Absolutely would never return.

I came here with some friends of mine who are also from the southern United States. Our mission was chicken, but quite a lot on the menu seemed exciting, and we wound up over-ordering a little. Downstairs they have a bar. I'm not certain that they serve food there, but when we said we were there for food, they directed us upstairs. I came here with some friends of mine who are also from the southern United States. Our mission was chicken, but quite a lot on the menu seemed exciting, and we wound up over-ordering a little.

Downstairs they have a bar. I'm not certain that they serve food there, but when we said we were there for food, they directed us upstairs. Upstairs is reasonably small: there are two long tables that seat about 16 people total. Service is kinda weird, because either the server can just stand in the room, which is a little unnerving, as the space is so small you feel like you're being watched as you eat. Alternatively, the server can come and go, but sometimes they disappear for 10 minutes right when you need them. We got some of both types of service. I'd like to recommend a practice common to Korean chicken and beer hofs, namely, a pager at the table for service. Just a thought.

Before I get to the food, I want to discuss the beer situation. I hate i-Pad menus. There was one menu for the entire second floor. That's not just bad table-to-table-wise, but even if there was one menu per table, it's still an issue, because beer selection must be done sequentially rather than in parallel. There should be one menu per diner, and if you can't spend that much on i-Pads, don't do i-Pad menus. What's more, the beer I ordered from the menu was out of stock. I don't know why people use these menus, but I had always assumed it was so they didn't have to print new menus when the stocks changed. But if you're not going to update your i-Pad menu, why bother? You can just as easily not update a paper menu!

Alright, now I'll dispense with the grousing temporarily.
Spicy Chicken

There is only dark meat chicken-on-the-bone on the menu. You can get chicken tenders, but don't be that person. Dark meat is mixed, but we wound up with an equal proportion of legs and thighs. You also have an option as to spicy or non-spicy chicken, and we opted for four pieces of each. Sometimes I feel that the spice rubs for chicken distract from the flavor, but not here. The spicy chicken is noticeably spicy, but nothing serious. I'd probably get that if I came back.

The breading for the chicken is thick and crunchy. I like it this way but maybe it's just a little bit too too thick-- for one of my thighs, a large portion of the breading came off like a shell. Still, on the whole I liked the chicken. It's a nice alternative to the Korean places, though if I just wanted a quick bite, I'd probably go to Jollibee. (This place is better than Jollibee, though, just to be clear.) Rating: Good

We got some catfish as well for the table. The strips are pretty thin, and they came out piping hot in a reasonably crispy cornmeal batter. Ideally there'd be hushpuppies, and tartar sauce is a little weird, but if you're in the mood for fried catfish, this will definitely hit the spot. Rating: Great.

Note: I rated this better than the chicken, because I think it's great-for-catfish. But I recommend you get the chicken, because let's face it, fried chicken is better than fried catfish.

Nobody was much of a fan of the biscuits. (By the way, we had ordered extra biscuits, because biscuits, when done well, are excellent. Each two pieces of chicken comes with one biscuit.) The general view was that these were more like scones than what someone who was from the geographical region these were masquerading as being from would call a 'biscuit'. Hey, you can't win 'em all. Rating: it comes with the chicken, but definitely don't order extra!
Mashed Potatoes

The side I wanted most was fried okra. I realize that we were eating a pile of fried crap, but fried okra is the king of fried vegetables. Anyway, they were out of that. So I ordered mashed potatoes. One of my companions liked the potatoes. Myself and at least one other person, we did not. The gravy was in a thick layer on top and it tasted funny. Sour, maybe? A lot of vinegar in it maybe? I thought the potatoes were a little runny too. Rating: Not recommended.
Jalapeno Poppers

We ordered the jalapeno poppers from the starter menu but due to a mix-up in the kitchen, we received the side-order size. That is an understandable mistake, but it's something they might consider keeping their eye on more carefully, as two dishes on the menu share a name.

I prefer jalapeno poppers filled with cheese and cheese alone. These one's were the sour cream kind, and they also had bacon in them. I thought they were overwhelmingly bacony. I enjoy jalapenos as a (cheese covered) vegetable, instead of as a vehicle for bacon. You'll like this if you're really into bacon though. Rating: It's not for me.
Mac & Cheese and Collards

Finally we got two other sides: collards and mac and cheese. Calling them 'collards' was a bit of a misnomer, as this side was mostly bacon. It's hard to see in the picture, but I ain't jokin'. There seemed to be a mixed reaction at the table. The collards were crispy (maybe they are deep fried? Seemed like fried basil a bit in texture) and very vinegary. I thought too vinegary, and again with their vegetable-i-ness beat out of them. Rating: No thanks.

The mac and cheese also had a somewhat mixed review. I will say that the m & c and the potatoes didn't come out particularly hot, and as you can see from the picture the cheese on top is unmelted and it did not proceed to melt as the meal wore on. That aside, its insufficient cheesiness was criticized, but I wasn't gonna hate. I secretly like all mac and cheese, even some varieties that are barely recognizable as people-food, and I thought this was pretty good, and a nice creemy, chewy accompaniment to the crispy fried stuff. Rating: Worth a go, if that's you're sort of thing.

At the end of the meal, I'll admit to some disappointment. My expectations were slightly tempered by the fact that at the other location, The Roundhouse - Taproom, I find the food mostly just OK (the ribs are fantastic, however). But there was so much on this menu that caught my eye, I maybe got too carried away. I definitely recommend it as a chicken destination, or if you're in the mood for fried catfish, though that mood strikes me at least less frequently. But the sides were all disappointing in their own way. That's really the thing that pulls you away from Jollibee and their weak french-fry game, is the stuff that comes with the chicken. Alas, meh!

天寒地凍, 吃過神虎拉麵仍感意猶未盡,忽然炸雞香氣飄然而至,也不管什麼 diet 什麼熱氣,看看 menu 對眼便直衝進店。坐在一個「樓梯底」的位置,略暗但很寬敞, 有足夠地方放好又大又厚的外套。小店主打炸雞和啤酒,不是近年大熱的韓式那種,走的是美式酒吧的路線,店裡也基本上都是外國人。2 個人, 先點了 4 件炸雞,啤酒有數十款讓人花多眼亂,大多昤進口的外國啤酒,也有本地手工啤酒,最後點了侍者介紹的 smoky bay (不確定是否這個名)。啤酒先上, 新鮮冰凍, 入口帶甜,有豐富的小麥香味, 不錯。炸雞是即叫即炸的, 約十分鐘後送到,上桌時還熱得燙手。因炸漿較「薄」, 只是僅僅包裹雞塊,炸雞的表面沒有那種很厚很脆的口感,個人比較喜歡這種質感,因大厚的粉漿雖然會較脆,但卻會太油膩。炸的火喉也是恰到好處,外面香而不燶,也沒滲出太多多餘油份,裡面的雞肉非常的嫩滑 jucy,配上啤酒實是人生一大享受。

I love Southern food so this is the place to go in Wanchai.The lunch is pretty good because it includes a side and drink and it was hard choosing a side because they are all good.The catfish I had was coated in a perfect cornmeal coating that was crisp and light with soft and silky catfish in the middle.
