食完晚飯 (around 2 months ago), noticed a narrow Grocery Store near the seaside. The staff explains they cater for local communities in 西環 & 薄扶林. On the shelf are mid-higher end imported items such as: raw Summer Truffles when in season, Winter Truffles stored in jars, Dried Mushrooms, Joselito Jamons, Fruit Jams, Teas, Premium raw Meats and Cold Cuts, Eggs, Vegies, Cereals, Potato Chips, even Sandwiches and Bread, etc. A good range! I was quite excited because I found a source for my favourite
I was quite excited because I found a source for my favourite 'edible' French mushroom - the Trompettes Des Morts - Black Trumpet! I saw this on Amber's and other menus earlier in the year but by the time I visited, it was past the season! I have only cooked and eaten fresh Black Trumpets before however. They're quite expensive and more exclusive than French Ceps or Porcini's so its difficult to source fresh ones, usually only available for a couple of weeks to a month around Nov to Dec and then they're gone in my patroned Food Market! Officially the season concurs with Winter Perigord Truffles and should last longer, may be restaurants have better access! (Note: Truffles aren't exactly edible mushrooms in my classification, they're used as enhancements! ... unlike Trompettes and fresh/dried Ceps.).
This one comes in a Dry form, something I'm unfamiliar with!
I haven't even started cooking or eating it - I can't tell you how the dry version will taste like. However its available at The Grocer and its so far the only shop in Hong Kong to carry them! Dry is better than nothing, I guess! !
