I live approximately 5 minutes walk from the flying pan so trying it seemed logical. The flying pan supposedly does all variants of English/continental breakfast. Having studied and worked in England I thought it might turn out to be on par with your average London greasy spoon or American diner. No way, it was far far worse. And I'm not some food snob. I don't turn my nose up at airline food and if you offer me stale pizza or a microwave curry I'd accept with a smile. BUT, if you offer to invit

Having studied and worked in England I thought it might turn out to be on par with your average London greasy spoon or American diner. No way, it was far far worse. And I'm not some food snob. I don't turn my nose up at airline food and if you offer me stale pizza or a microwave curry I'd accept with a smile. BUT, if you offer to invite me out for a meal at the flying pan I will likely spit on the floor and throw you out my apartment. That's how bad my meal was.
I ordered Chicken patty burger with potato wedges and baked beans. I also ordered an orange juice. My girlfriend ordered some kind of sandwich. I won't talk about her meal because I didn't eat it and as such do not know how it tasted. My meal was as follows:
Chicken burger patty - inedible; rubbery; terrible. I do not know where they could have bought this item.
Potato wedges - these were genuine potato. However they were cold and I don't think the staff had taken the trouble to wash or clean the potatoes. They tasted of neglect.
Beans - yes, these were the highlight of the meal. But again, they were cold. An extra few seconds in the microwave would have been nice.
Juice - Why do you think its acceptable to charge decent money for juice and then serve it in tiny tiny glasses. It almost looked like a double shot glass. The juice was also terrible to the taste. Again, I'm not a juice snob. Had it been cordial with water I would have been happy. Had it been diluted Ribena I would have been happy. Had it been tap water left in a jug over the weekend I would have been happy.
Question - why does this restaurant have so many good reviews? Perhaps they pay people to post. Perhaps people are drunk when they go. I don't know.
But even if you don't believe anything I've written here, take a close look at the pictures people post - look close and you will see everything looks on the cheap side.
HK has much better cafes which serve a decent breakfast. Failing that go to McD's.
