Friend's birthday dinner (12 people)

overall - above average service, over-rated food, expensive

this is going to be short - not the best vietnamese i've had, though it was going to be great given the price.

platter - the rice paper rolls had no taste
soft shell crab roll - too much batter, could not taste the crab
chicken - pretty good
beef cubes - over-cooked, beef had strange taste
fired vermicelli - pretty good, best dish out of them all
fried rice - dry, chewy and tasteless
morning glory - very good
fish - over cooked, powdery texture

we wanted to open a bottle of our own champ with my friend's cake - they wanted 500 corkage (what the f***?)

it worked out to be 650 per head (ok we drank and ate a lot) - i've had way better viet for that kind of money (cafe locomotive in tin hau for example),

service good at beginning then it got crappier as the night progressed...

there are just too many over-priced restaurant with below average food in HK - will NOT go back again

This is the second time I have visited this restaurant for lunch. The buffet is $98 + 10% service charge. I am always looking for fresh vegetables and I can get plenty of them here. Both days I started with really flavorful soups, Beef + Lemongrass and Vegetable with Shrimp Paste. The next thing I tried was the rolls. Tuna and Tofu rolls and minced beef on crispy rice. Over the two days the was Sauteed Morning Glory, Sweet Potatoes and Capsicum, Salad with Duck, Salad with Pork and Short

I am already thinking about how I have my birthday dinner here.
The owners/chef should be proud. Although I love the ambience and hate crowds, I hope enough people discover this place and keep the business flowing.

I don't really have the recollection of why K and I came here, but I do remember what we had, and what it was like =P Heres what we had: "Bread basket" comprised of sesame crackers and prawn chips, all very crunchy and yumm. "Lime soda" ($35) We both ordered a lime soda each to wash down our meal. It was very sour with lots of fresh time and lots of fizz. Totally my kind of lime-soda! "Vegetarian Curry"($120) Was a bowl of green curry that was chock full of assorted vegetables such as eggplant

I don't really have the recollection of why K and I came here, but I do remember what we had, and what it was like =P

Heres what we had:

"Bread basket"
comprised of sesame crackers and prawn chips, all very crunchy and yumm.

"Lime soda" ($35)
We both ordered a lime soda each to wash down our meal. It was very sour with lots of fresh time and lots of fizz. Totally my kind of lime-soda!

"Vegetarian Curry"($120)
Was a bowl of green curry that was chock full of assorted vegetables such as eggplant, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. The sauce was thin and very slightly spicy and sweet....quite like the Thai green curry. Was very enjoyable and K seemed to love it too.

"Baguette"
came with the curry above

"Halibut in Banana Leaf with Turmeric, Lemongrass and Coconut" ($160)
The fish was cooked perfectly, but the marinade of coconut, lemongrass and turmeric was lacking....salt. Was a bit on the bland side for my tastes but good nonetheless. The thick coconut sauce came through quite well too, very aromatic.

"Chocolate mascarpone cake" ($75)
This was a very rich (I think flour-less) chocolate cake, with a thin layer of slightly sweetened mascarpone cheese in the middle (the yellow bit in the picture). With a little drizzle of chocolate sauce for sweetness, this cake was every bit rich and indulgent as it looked.

For some Asian food in Soho, I would recommend Song, but whether you can find it is another story. It's quite hidden... =P (And make reservations too!)

We went to Song for company lunchon. The restaurant is pretty much empty when we arrive and during the entire lunch hour. They put 14 of us on a small table while there are plenty of space around. Food took a long time to prepare even though it's not busy, we tried to speed them up, but their reply was all food are made fresh.... When food finally arrive, it was very dispointing. we ordered some Pho Bo, and cold noodles. The noodles were too hard as if not fully cooked. The soup base do not h

My advise to you is DON'T go there. and I certainly will not go again.

This is by far the worst dining experience at Song's in my life worldwide! The waitresses there were remarkably rude and totally unprofessional keeping their social decency to the minimal as if they were trying to unplease their customers as much as possible. And regarding their food I must say they arent the worst of all I have had before; however with that kind of price (~$250 per person) I can get it anywhere else and with better service. 朋友住SOHO,適逄情人節,唔想被斬到一頸血就去左呢間,兩個人埋單要$230,喺呢區算平喇!我地叫左一個越式拼盆同一碗生牛肉河,越式拼盆份量都幾大,最後都係食唔晒。拼盆有粉卷,炸扎肉,蝦餅,春卷,蔗蝦,味道唔錯,不過春卷D皮比平時的厚,同埋粉卷放耐左D皮好靭,結果就被遺棄喇!而牛肉河個湯味道很鮮甜,好好味,係貴左D囉!呢度服務都唔錯,可能因為係高級地方,侍應態度都好親切。其實呢度附近有好多餐廳都好有情調,裝修都好靚,肯定係好貴架喇,不過唔食嘢都值得黎睇下,就係半山電梯既後段。

早陣子﹐有個在澳洲開越南餐館的朋友問我﹐高級的越南菜館在香港受落嗎﹖只想起在蘭桂坊的Indochine 1929﹐便告訴他香港沒有多少這樣的餐廳﹐而且食物質數與價錢不稱﹐我試過一次是不會再回去的了。怎知上個禮拜在Soho 找食的地方﹐碰上了這個久遺了的老朋友﹐至少有兩年沒有去過了﹗那就進去試試吧﹐看食物的質數有沒有保持好﹗依稀記得那時午餐是半自助的﹐頭盤和甜品都是自助﹐主菜就二選一。雖然選擇不多﹐但是味道還是可以的﹐最重要是價錢合理嘛﹐好像是每位$98 另加一。時至今日﹐價錢是便宜了$10﹐但是主菜是沒有了。只有那個選擇不多的自助餐檯﹕有一款湯﹐兩三個頭盤小吃﹐那個豆豉蒸魚片算是主菜了吧(算是最好吃﹐而且唯一的熱盤)﹐一個炒飯﹐一個炒米粉﹐一個甜品﹐就是這樣了﹐連咖啡和茶都不包。比這區的西餐廳還要貴﹗那天吃了什麼都不記得了﹐因為雖不致難吃﹐但也實在是太普通了﹗不過這裡的環境是不錯的﹐下次可以晚上來試試它的a la carte﹐希望比午餐好吧﹐因為價錢真的是挺貴呢﹗

一間越南菜館對唔對辦,生牛河就係最主要的指標,九十大洋的牛河,湯底好鮮甜,牛肉亦有肉味,質感鮮嫩,呢兩樣,其實係咪價值$90的牛河應有水準?平時lunch去意蘆,
一個牛河,都係$10.貴少少強記,$21.老趙,都係咁上下價.

鴨仔蛋呢?無,牛牛肉呢?無,血"um"?無,咁,真係搵日老許再會.兩個人叫埋飲品,加埋用連卡佛咭有八折,要成$350埋單.食個環境,都叫值,如果你係追求緊對方,或者正在蜜月期.帶女伴來吧,一定大叫Romantic.追女仔,比多少少,意料中事.

好像我輩麻甩,都係去番老許一面劈血UM,一面兩個三,不是更適合嗎?

introduced by one of my colleagues...the decoration is full of art feeling like candles, drawings, stainless steel accessories. pomelo salad very fresh & specialpapaya salad is just so so..chicken & crab roll is just ok and i think "rice paper" in harbour city is better..beef cube is VERY good, only 70% done so the texture is excellent!!!"pork face meat" with noodles also very good, trusted that the noodles is watered with ice then fried and is perfect matched with the meat.curry chicken & swee

drink is no surpise, 1 red wine + 1 white wine + iced mocha...

be careful for the steep "corridor" when getting into the restaurant, slippery!

staff is nice, willing to recommend

同朋友仔食飯, 可能KC提過話係條小巷到入, 所以特別留意, 好快就搵到!成8點都只得一檯客, 餐\廳幾蚊型, 位幾逼; 環境格調唔多似食越南, 好彩食具係囉! 青木瓜沙律都話明係我至愛之一, 今次又點會唔叫呢? 呢個有蝦仲有楊桃, 唔辣, 清甜但好平凡. 再一個炸軟殼蟹Rice Paper Rolls, 炸軟殼蟹好得, 但朋友嫌菜苦口; 跟住上係鮮菇炒檬粉, 好淡味, 鮮菇亦無果種香味, 唔掂! 仲有兩碟肉類, 一個係燒雞塊, 另一個係炒牛柳, 燒雞塊有好大陣炭味, 食落幾苦, 唔接受的話唔好叫; 反而個炒牛柳做得幾好, 牛柳舊舊大件, 好嫩好有肉汁, 難得唔炒到全熟, 吃時點附上蒜汁, 好fresh! 食物水準比預期差, 食完之後無咩香料味留低, 感覺同其他地方食好唔同!再夜, 人客愈愈多, 但幾乎清一色係鬼! 再講服務, 好一般, 侍仔可以話係無咩笑容, 只係交功\課咁.註: 呢度話晚飯7點後先開始營業喎!

有日朋友請食飯,帶左來呢度。由荷李活道果邊入,小路的兩旁有小蠟燭引路,幾有趣。裝修幾好張張檯都有蠟燭有氣氛同格調,情侶撐檯腳一流。兩個人點了木瓜芒果蝦沙律,招牌推介吞拿魚卷同炸軟殼蟹。沙律有青檸汁同芒果幾醒胃,但蝦就麻麻地,所以除左蝦之外成碟掃清。吞拿魚卷幾清新,加入蔬菜及香葉,剛好中和炸軟殼蟹的油膩,不過就適合夏天食多一點。埋單四佰幾,都算物有所值。但坦白講麻麻地飽,因人地請唔敢叫太多野,結果之後走左去食牛腩河。
