My overall experience in Meats was so bad. First, the food's portion was ridiculous, which was totally unacceptable, not worth its price. The waitress highly recommended the tasting menu to us and told us that it included everything which was all specially prepared by the chef and ensured that there must be enough for us (2 male adults) to eat. First, the food's portion was ridiculous, which was totally unacceptable, not worth its price. The waitress highly recommended the tasting menu to us and told us that it included everything which was all specially prepared by the chef and ensured that there must be enough for us (2 male adults) to eat. However, the truth is totally opposite.
1. The snacks and salad's portions were okay for 2 people, but one thing we do not know is why there was so much watermelon in the salad (over 70%). It is still April and watermelon obviously is not the best seasonal fruit for now (not sure if the chef knows).
2. The pork ribs were so delicious, the meat was so soft and the smoked smell was so good, but so small, not sure if it is possible for an adult to eat, the size was totally like a mini-bread for 2 bites.
3. The mac & cheese and baby chicken were delicious and enough for us to eat at least.
4. The beef wellington was so delicious, but we were 2 persons, the size was like a slice of an Garden Lise Bread (嘉頓生命面包), the cheapest Garden in the supermarket. As one of the main signature dishes of the tasting menu, after cutting it in half, we totally ensure what we ate. The mashed potatoes are easy to make people full, but as you can see from the photo, it was like the sauce to put under the meat instead of potato.
5. 2 people to share this, then how about the portion/pieces if for one person. And, it was cold when the server brought it to our table, god knows how it was put in kitchen to wait for us for how long.
6. The ice-cream brownie is the most ridiculous. 2 people to share this one small ice-cream and one small brownie. No any dishes to give to us to share this dessert. Seemed we were expected a gay couple by your staff to use one small plate to eat this. We asked the waiters a few times to give the plate to us. 2 males to sit together...
They told me that it should be hK$448/person for the tasting menu. He said that Meats' food was delicious, but it was not a fine dining restaurant which was so noisy, bad service quality, so the portion of the tasting menu was totally miscalculated.
We asked the manager to explain how the portion of this tasting menu was so small and not enough for 2 adults to eat. We told the manager that we finished all, but totally not feeling full (max. half full). She told us that it was totally up to the chef to cook and cut, We asked her about the beef wellington and she said that it was by weight, but she could not tell us the standard of the weight, just said that the chef considered this tasting menu to be a very big portion. Finally, she offered us to select a snack to compensate. My friend chose the octopus, but this snack was really a small snack, like the fish balls in the street stalls in Mong Kok. So small.

Second, the service quality was so bad. We booked to dine at 20:15 via Openrice. It was so hot and we took the taxi from Landmark to the restaurant's front entrance. When we asked the receptionist to check our reservation, she told us that there were no tables. We emphasised that we had booked already and she said that if we would like we could wait for the table, but she did not know when she could get a table for us. Obviously, it was overbooked and the restaurant staff did not check and monitor the tables. The worst part was her attitude and responses were so bad, just asked us to wait if we wanted. Really could not imagine it was a nice restaurant in the Soho area. We just stood in the front entrance and sweated a lot. No water or soft drinks to offer us once we sat down.
Third, the waiters' service/attitude were bad. We sat down and no one gave the menus and gave us water. For the menus, we waited and asked 2 times. For the water, we asked a few times and only had someone give us after a few minutes of ordering. Everything we asked, someone would come and said okay, but then waited at least 5 minutes to get what we asked. For getting the spoon, we asked 2 times and waited 10 minutes. For checking the bill, we asked 3 times and waited over 15 minutes.
This is the worst dining experience we had in the Soho area and Central. Eventually, we went to the McDonald's in Queen's Road Central to eat again, but it was already 10pm, so we could only buy takeaways and stood on the street (Queen's Road Central, so hot) to eat. We are really disappointed with Meats in both food and service quality, also the management from the PIRATA Group. We do not think we would come back to Meats again or even other restaurants under PIRATA Group.
