It was peak lunch hour when I got to K11 and I was starving. I walked around the food court but everywhere was packed, but not Doje... I picked up their menu and decided it will have to do for I needed to have my lunch quick.
They were doing a buy 4 get 1 free drink promo, so I got myself four pieces -- seared salmon, mentaiko salad, kimchi pork and spicy sliced beef. When the staff took my order, he kindly offered to heat the sushi up for me. He said the meat delis taste better hot. I must say he was not wrong at all.
1) seared salmon (9/10) The salmon pieces were diced and drenched in sour cream. Oh my, it was so refreshing because I thought the white dressing was mayo when I ordered it LOL. I have never tried salmon with sour cream and it was surprisingly pleasant.
2) mentaiko salad (8/10) I am a big fan of mentaiko so I was eager to try it. It was alright as it was just as nice as I thought it would be. It was tangy and a little bit spicy, with a lot of roe. Not too surprised with this one but I still liked it, though not as much as the others. And another reason why it was not rated as high as the others were because there were simply not enough sauce... haha. There was A LOT of rice. For sushi that huge, I would really like it if there were more of the sauces.
3) kimchi pork (9/10) There was kimchi and pork, and perhaps some onion? I am not very sure about what exactly was in it, all I know was it tastes good. It was spicy which I dig. Imagine the stir-fried kimchi pork you get in a Korean restaurant. Now put that on sushi wrapped in tofu. That is what this tasted like. It was lip-smacking. I also like how the kimchi was not too sour, as kimchi too sour yet not hot enough is my pet peeve.
4) spicy. sliced. beef. (10/10) She is the reason why I even wrote this entire thing. UGHHH IT WAS SO GOOD. You have to understand I basically almost gave up on her because I was simply too full, I am so glad I did not. It is heated up so it tasted exactly how it would in a conventional Korean restaurant. EXCEPT, the spicy beef juices seeped into the rice beneath it, and made the vinegar rice better than ever. There was a lot of beef too. So I was thoroughly pleased with it. I devoured the whole thing at the end without any regret.
Overall comment: yes, it was slightly on the pricier side, but it was worth it (it's K11 after all). The rice was not mushy at all, they were all separate grains of rice. The rice was al dante (?), even for those served cold, which changed my mind about kimbap. Also, the portion was respectfully large. I would have only ordered two had I known they were this large xD.
