Been twice this week as it is a drop in sort of place. First time went for a couple of beers with a mate, great selection however I would have to say the Houblon was the pick of the bunch. Ended up staying for dinner or beer snacks depending on your view. Loved that there was a chips and Quac rather than the standard loaded heart attack Nacho's. Figured the 6 pints was enough damage already. Went back for lunch on Saturday with the love of my life and her mum and tried the hummus and veg with a plate of ribs. Hummus was clean with reallyfresh veg but it was the ribs that hit the spot. Not the sticky sugar type of rib, more of a deep dry rub layered with BBQ sauce and a good smoking.
Service is a weird one with no service allowed outside, apparently some sort of licensing rule. Still when you go inside it is friendly, efficient and they know their product.
All round a great find in the middle of Soho with outdoor seating. I'll be back soon !

星期日去左中環閒逛周圍睇下有咩好食經過門口見到呢間餐廳裝修又新又靚環境好好就入去試試以為有all day breakfast 食,點知無😔😔咁就點左 Benedict eggs 同埋steak 好似穩陣點Benedict Arnold 個荷蘭醬真係較得好酸 唔好食既塊bacon 煎得好乾同埋好硬隻蛋算ok個底佢用左cornbread 入面有啲原粒黑椒個麵包唔夠軟,仲要一咬落去就散哂夾埋一齊食真係好怪Steak and eggs 呢個還可以牛扒叫左五成熟,但黎到好似7成熟咁樣不過食落都ok , 唔會太硬薯仔落左香草焗得好好食,但偏咸餐廳環境好好打咭一流但野食就唔好太大期望

Went there for weekend lunch with Hubby and tween. Can’t believe how small their potions are. They served kids portions for a very high price.I had Sue-izo eggs on toast. The toast was so thin. The thinnest piece of bread I’ve even seen. The scrambled eggs I could eat with one mouthful. The Burger my hubby had was smaller than a kids fist My daughter’s pasta was the size of a starter. The owner definitely is ripping off their customers. Can’t believe they have the nerve to serve such small porti

It’s a drizzly Thursday night. We’ve just left our first antenatal class. Mrs A and I are exhausted, emotional and pretty terrified. We needed to escape for an hour or two. Somewhere bright and sunny where babies arrive with the clean pop of a champagne cork being carefully twisted off.Southern California seemed to fit the bill, so we headed to newly opened Big Sur.I wanted Brian Wilson warbling about surfing and Katy Perry in a bikini top zipping around on roller skates. It’s a drizzly Thursday night. We’ve just left our first antenatal class. Mrs A and I are exhausted, emotional and pretty terrified. We needed to escape for an hour or two. Somewhere bright and sunny where babies arrive with the clean pop of a champagne cork being carefully twisted off.

Southern California seemed to fit the bill, so we headed to newly opened Big Sur.

I wanted Brian Wilson warbling about surfing and Katy Perry in a bikini top zipping around on roller skates. What I actually got was a middle-aged waiter with an Easter Island expression and MDF furniture, retro wood panelling and concrete flooring. All of which combined to create a rather anaemic atmosphere. 

The menu has everything you’d expect from an America diner. Ribs, pulled pork and steaks. This is a tough dining category to break into. Bearded dudes with ironic tattoos, lumberjack shirts and a single GCSE in woodwork have cornered that particular market. However, Big Sur makes no attempt at woodchips, fire or anything as indulgent or as trivial as flavour.

The menu is also very expensive. This feels like error of judgement given the easy comparison to Pirata-owned, MEATS, which is just three doors up the road. MEATS serves-up Rotisserie chicken and confit duck for $180 and $160 respectively. While the equivalent dishes of half a chicken and breast of duck are a third more expensive at Big Sur at $280 and $250.

The last thing I wanted that evening was food retaining any resemblance of bodily fluid. Therefore, I ordered the Tennessee Plate, a medley of ribs,
pulled pork and beans – all of which should have cooked for days until succulently tender. Alas, I had to wrestle the rib meat off the bone and the
BBQ beans had the texture of canned kidney beans. The dish contained a 'popover'. This was basically a Yorkshire pudding with an injection of oestrogen and processed cheese. Like the insipid red cabbage and pickles, it added absolutely nothing to proceedings.

Each item on my plate could be matched against the Dulux colour palate of grey. The only real colour – and indeed flavour – came from the metallic tang of factory made BBQ sauce.

I ordered a side of sweet potato fries, expecting thin crunchy orange fries. I received a bowl of fat roasted wedges which were stodgy and starchy, and again, without merit or taste 

Having had a fairly torrid time already that evening, I was conscious that our mood entering Big Sur would have an unfair and disproportionately negative effect on our experience. However, a form of cathartic redemption – and entertainment – came in the form of a couple on the table next door boisterously complaining. ‘It tastes frozen’ the girl loudly and consistent proclaimed. By which I think she meant artificial and I couldn’t have agreed more.

If you were being generous, you could argue the lacklustre food was the result of the chef having a bad night. But really, the dishes are fairly simple and there’s a very large margin for error.

It’s obvious that Big Sur doesn’t set out to compete based on the quality of its food. One area it can compete is the strength of its beer offering. 15 draught beers are ordered into session beers, happy beers and big & bold beers. 

So, the reality is, Big Sur is not competing with the fine eateries on Staunton Street, it’s competing with the sports bars. It’s somewhere else to sit outside and drink enough beer so that you can't taste, or even see the food. And I’m fine with that, as long as long as the proposition and price point reflects the ambition. But the owners have promised ‘a dynamic dose of Californian living’. Unfortunately, Big Sur fails to construct the artifice it promises. I didn’t feel I was on the set of a Beach Boys video. I felt like I was in TGI Fridays without the fun.

A friend and I came here for dinner to catchup. It was very busy in the outdoor area, as it was quite a warm evening. We settled into a quiet corner indoors and ordered a few dishes to share:- kale salad- mixed BBQ plate- Texan sheet “stack cake”- apple crispThe kale salad is excellent, and compliments the meat dish nicely. A friend and I came here for dinner to catchup. It was very busy in the outdoor area, as it was quite a warm evening.

We settled into a quiet corner indoors and ordered a few dishes to share:
- kale salad
- mixed BBQ plate
- Texan sheet “stack cake”
- apple crisp

The kale salad is excellent, and compliments the meat dish nicely. The mixed bbq is generous in size and comes with a good variety of meat and sides. The ribs were especially tasty.

We enjoyed both desserts, which are also a good size for sharing.

Although we did not drink on this occasion, there is an extensive selection of craft beers, fruit juice based cocktails and mocktails, and other drinks. I would come here again.

Terrible lighting to start off with. Not sure if they were those energy saving light bulbs but the whole interior had this weird almost clinical feel because of the choice in lighting. Then the food came and the seafood was awful - the tuna ceviche tasted totally off and the cooked shrimp was not fresh at all. They agreed to change the ceviche to something else but not before they claimed that their seafood was fresh from Japan. Can't verify the Japan part but it was definitely not fresh. The ba

在中上環區上班的我,自然就會喺附近搵食。撞埋weekend,就約埋老友去試試呢間打正旗號賣美國加州燒烤嘅餐廳。呢間新舖嘅主廚與我之前曾有幾面之緣,亦試過佢嘅嘢食,質素相當唔錯。所以我都唔擔心呢度嘅出品!先黎一個 Herb Haloumi,厚切芝士下面係一塊黑豆夾心嘅粟米餅,撈埋上面嘅辣椰菜絲一齊食,都辣得幾過癮!跟住呢個 ‘Baja’ Tacos,焦點係烤大蝦同埋自家製辣肉腸,味道亦突出。主菜就繼續熱氣🤣叫左個雜錦燒烤拼盤,無論係個手撕豬、豬肋條、定係個USDA Prime煙燻牛,都十分惹味,加埋杯少爺啤一流!🍻🍻

My Blueberry Days是2017年限定,idea來自王家衛的藍莓之夜。入口甜甜的,帶淡淡藍莓香,但對我來說略嫌味淡。我較喜歡鹹檸啤

以自家醃製的鹹青檸入饌,鹹中帶酸。味道蠻清新,喚醒了味蕾,愈飲愈喜歡。

USDA Prime天然牛扒經醃製後再slow smoke,medium rare肉質較粉嫩。

聖誕佳節,食飽飯又怎能没甜品甜品選擇不多,只有3款。

朱古力蛋糕看似不錯,但不夠sticky,朱古力味也不夠rich。如果甜品再好一點就更perfect!

這美式餐廳不但適合與情人來,與大伙兒來吃喝也不錯。下次一定要跟朋友再來
