今晚心血來潮想時一下咖喱,又想食下素,於是就來到這家活蘭印度素食.晚上的尖東非常靜,加上永安中心這裡,靜上加靜,所以我walk-in根本不需要排隊。可能我第一次食印度素食,個menu由頭到尾,再看番頭,都唔知應該點什麼比較好。友善的印度藉waiter出現了,我用英語求助,然而他用一口流利的廣東話介紹了兩味 “初哥”必點的 Dosa 及一個套餐。我也點了一被Mango Lassi,這個Mango不太甜,也有效地化解咖喱的辣度,建議大家有緣來這裡也點一個。

菜單方面選擇多,如港式茶餐廳,當然全部食物都是素食,有中英文菜單,方便大家選擇食物,但欠缺食物的圖片和簡介,菜單紙上只有各大類的食物的圖片,想知道個別的樣子,用賣相去想像一下食物的味道,只能靠詢問侍應朋友,這都是為什麼很多朋友都不想嘗試印度菜的原因,是因為其<神秘感>,<活蘭>在菜單上要多下努力改善!

對印度菜有一點點認識,加上一點點<估下估下>,再加上詢問侍應哥哥之後,先點了一個<Special Indian Thali> ,侍應哥哥說多加一個 Dosa,就足夠兩個人的份量,所以再點一個<Masala Dosa>。

上菜時<Masala Dosa>份量十足,Dosa用一個餅皮,烤脆之後卷成,裡面加上薯仔泥,附上一個Masala醬汁,醬汁裡面有薯仔。先把餅皮撕開,之後點上Masala醬汁,味道不太咸,餅皮香脆,加上Masala汁之後,風味十分正宗。其實印度香料味(所謂的咖哩味)不太重,可能是因應本地人的口味,而作出調整,適合香港人口味。<Masala Dosa>值得推介!

再到<Special Indian Thali>,附上兩個不同的薄餅,一個香脆一個鬆軟,鬆軟的吹成一個氣球,賣相十分特別,下面有印度飯,再加上十種不同的醬汁。自問無法了解各醬汁的名字和其中的材料,只能用你的舌頭,一個一個嘗試,辣的甜的咸的酸的苦的,需要閣下去深入了解。其實<活蘭>可以附上一張Thali 卡,逐一圖文並茂介紹各醬汁的材料和味道,讓食客知道如何正確用印度人方法,享受各醬汁的風味,味道總算不錯,但多吃一點之後,覺得油膩感過重,因為薄餅和部份醬汁油份高,加上醬汁多數用上薯仔和豆類,十分飽肚。

<Masala Dosa>和<Special Indian Thali>兩個菜,應該是三個人的份量。
如果二人份量,建議點一個Dosa 和份量較少的<North Indian Thali>或者是<South Indian Thali>。或者點一個<Special Indian Thali>加一個小吃,例如<Samosa>。

<活蘭>和各印度餐廳要繼續努力,推展印度美食,需要大量的品牌的包裝,和食物文化的介紹,讓本地的朋友深入了解印度的文化,不只是<咖哩>和<包頭>,印度菜要加油!
題外話/補充資料: 如果二人份量,建議點一個Dosa 和份量較少的<North Indian Thali>或者是<South Indian Thali>,或者點一個<Special Indian Thali>加一個小吃,例如<Samosa>

Dosa,熱辣辣上,皮脆,同另一印度素食Branto比,個皮厚身少少,不過我比較喜歡呢度的Dosa,有咬口d,尤其個椰子醬比較傑身,香料味也較特出,沾Dosa黎食真係食唔停口,只嫌豆湯就甜身左少少,咸返d會好d。

人手唔多,預左有時叫野要等一等,有時去餐廳食野,我覺得都係要互相體諒,整體服務我覺得係唔差。

活蘭印度素食,顧名思義呢度既菜式都係素食,咩肉都冇架,佢地用既材料都係薯仔、瓜菜、豆類、香料等等,重有啲係有芝士既。我好鍾意食印度野,之前幾次係呢度叫外賣自取,因為一開始唔敢堂食,佢間鋪晏晝唔係開好多燈,入面又冇咩人,成日唔知佢究竟開左未😅有種令人怕怕既氣氛。不過有次拎左佢地張menu返去睇,見到個南印度套餐好似好得意咁,入面有好多種小碗裝既菜應該冇得外賣,就的起心肝去堂食喇~ 一上枱真係嘩一聲!成張枱咁大個銀盤!上面裝住八個小銀碗,另外除左三塊烤餅之外重有一大碟白飯同一塊薄脆,一個人要食哂都真係有啲難道~佢menu重寫在合理情況下可要求refill😆 八個碗裝既佢地中文叫泥醬同醃菜,有南瓜味既醬、扁豆醬、印度酸辣湯、平時食到既咖哩、用左好多豆同青瓜煮既醃菜,重有白色果碗係印度乳酪,質感比平時食既厚身,佢幾款泥醬都幾辣,可以用黎中和返個辣味,最細果碗仔係又辣又咸既醃檸檬皮??唔知呢個應該算係前菜定比人食完清一清味蕾既呢?脹卜卜入面其實係冇野既,煙煙un un,搣開佢地黎點野食好好味呀佢地menu有中英文版本,有需要可以問佢地拎中文版黎睇,不過唔係每道菜都有相睇,睇個名係估唔到有咩係入面

佢地menu有中英文版本,有需要可以問佢地拎中文版黎睇,不過唔係每道菜都有相睇,睇個名係估唔到有咩係入面😅

服務方面,佢地唔係好熱情招呼果種,比人感覺冷漠同幾內斂,不過佢地幾helpful架,例如我會問佢地啲醬係用咩材料煮,佢地都好有耐性解答,走既時候個個都會同你微笑byebye,係自然果種唔係訓練出黎果種🙂

 The mall location of this restaurant was a little unexpected but the overall vibe of the place seems right somehow. First thing that I need to mention, I have been here three times now and each time the service has been wonderfully attentive. I like my servers to notice me when I need them but otherwise unobtrusive and the guys here have been great each time. I have always been seated promptly, they've noticed when I have  finished scanning the menu and come over to take my order and the food has been brought promptly. I went once with my parents who ask more questions than I do and the questions were all answered. 

The visit that I am reviewing here I ordered the South Indian thali with chapatis (seriously, what could be better for a solo diner after a 15km hike? Variety and volume).

As a whole the dish is great. I'm not sure of exactly what was in each dish but I'll try and give descriptions. When the tray arrived the first thing that hit me was the deep, almost earthy smell of the chapatis, I definitely prefer them to the puri. So, working around the platter clockwise from the white pot:
1. Sour cream - not to be eaten in its own but a welcome addition to many of the other dishes. 
2. Chilli paste - the only pot I didn't finish. 
3. Soup #1 - this was the less spicy of the two soups, it had a slight nutty flavour and a watery-dal consistency. Nice with chapatis. 
4. Vegetable curry - I could identify tomato and cabbage in this pot, it had a deep savoury flavour but unfortunately I think I got the scrapings from the bottom of the pan as there were a few burnt it too tough pieces, otherwise tasty. 
5. Soup #2 - spicier than the first, I enjoyed the visual aspect of this one, when I loaded my spoon there were nice small flecks of chilli and oil. It looked pretty and tasted good (if a little overly salty). 
6. Dal - (I think), this was perhaps my favourite dish, I love the nutty, earthy, lentilly flavour, nicely spiced with fennel seeds. 
7. Something with coconut - don't be deceived by the redness of this little pot, there was a definite hint of coconut in there. 
8. The sweet - I think maybe semolina. Each spoonful left a kind of sticky stain on the spoon. It was sweet and a little buttery with a few softened raisins and nuts hiding below the surface. 

I worked hard to finish the set and succeeded. This is definitely somewhere to keep on my treats list.

Of lately the management has taken seriously all the negative reviews and there seems to have been a remarkable improvement in the service with most of the earlier disgusting staff being laid-off.

However, it is not surprising to find several increases in the prices quoted in the menu during a single year and now most diners have changed their dining visits to Woodlands from frequent to occasional and the reason is that the cost per head incurred in Woodlands gets them much better food, service and ambiance at other high end Indian restaurants in Hong Kong.

食DOSA-CHEESE PLAIN時,我真係停唔到口,個種好味難以形容,如果你同我一樣係芝士怪就更加會沉淪落呢塊餅度。。。。請一定要試下!!!食薄餅始終比較油,我地覺得飲酸酸甜甜既LASSI係比較令人消滯~~期待下次再黎

之後頭盤送到,Dahi Puri, 這個冷盤,因為乳酪關係,個汁酸酸地,甜甜地,辣辣地,配上薯仔+脆餅,非常醒胃,我會為佢再來喇。不過記住要盡快食,因為個汁會浸軟個餅。

接著係主菜,Mysore Masala及North Indian Thali。 Mysore Masala 係軟餅,餅裡搽左辣醬,三角形既外型非常eye catching,正中間包左薯仔,大量澱粉質真係好飽肚,但實在太惹味,不知不覺俾我地ko 了。

Thali, 這個包括沙律,各類咖哩同甜品,澱粉質係什菜飯再加烤餅。飯是正宗印度米,但略為不夠味,其餘的都是水準之作,甜品很甜但已比印度輕手了,印度因為太熱,食物都比較濃味喇。

今日同個朋友慶生、一行五個人黎左食印度素食我本身都好鐘意食印度野、重慶大廈既咖喱就當然正宗、但係衛生確實麻麻、d印度人會將放有熟左食物既盤放係地上 呢度我唔知有無啦!起碼我見唔到先啦下!點野食花左點時間、因為實在太多選擇、菜名有中英文表示、唔洗驚唔明1. 好快咖哩米餅就登場~

We went to Woodlands on a tip and were so happy with our meal.The place is non-descript on the first floor of a mall, but what it lacks in decorative character, it MORE than makes up for with the food and drink.For drinks we opted for a jaljeera pani and a masala milk.  The first is a savoury drink from Bombay (Mumbai) with black pepper, ginger, red chillies, cloves and asafoetida.  It was refreshing and unusual.  The taste was unexpected, but really good.  The masala milk was delicious.  It is

We went to Woodlands on a tip and were so happy with our meal.

For drinks we opted for a jaljeera pani and a masala milk.  The first is a savoury drink from Bombay (Mumbai) with black pepper, ginger, red chillies, cloves and asafoetida.  It was refreshing and unusual.  The taste was unexpected, but really good.  The masala milk was delicious.  It is infused with saffron, almonds, pistachios, cardamom and nutmeg.  We had it cold, but it can also be served hot.

For food, we shared a Mysore pain dosa and a South Indian thali.  The dosa was coated with a red chutney and the taste was first class.  Even without the condiments, it would have been delicious on its own.  

The thali was really good.  The dal, potatoes and all of the other little pots of joy were super tasty and accompanied with some chapatis (we could have had purees), it was a great way to eat a lot of different dishes.  It came with a sweet as well - a semia kheer.  It is a vermicelli and milk dessert and was really good.

The service was polite and prompt and we had a really good time.  I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great vegetarian South Indian food.

有點像蒸蛋糕。

這兩款醬汁隨Iddly奉上。

我覺得只上一次便足夠,免得浪費掉。)
橙紅色那一款(抱歉,照片的顏色好像有點出入……)比較稀,帶有少許甜味。
白色那一款比較固態。
兩者都是頗辣的醬料,都可以看到有很多黑胡椒粒在內。

另一款小吃是Uppuma(南印式鹹麥皮),$55。
我很喜歡這小吃。
對我來說很新奇。
外貌像飯糰。
卻不像日式飯糰般有黏合性,很難完整地將之搬家。

我看不到麥皮,但有些微感覺到麥皮的存在。
還有腰果和……黑胡椒粒。
(基本上所有食物都有黑胡椒粒。
不過,我覺得黑胡椒粒的辣味沒有紅辣椒那麼強,所以,我可以接受。)

質感有點像剛才的Iddly,像鬆軟的蛋糕。
但,又是沒有飽膩感。
我覺得,我自己可以吃一客哩!

終於到主菜了。

本以為只是一片烤餅,原來中間有咖喱薯仔的。
這才是致飽的元素!
不過,要留意這包含了洋葱。
我們沒有注意餐牌,否則,便會詢問店員可否不要洋葱了。

原本我想點的是菠菜湯,朋友想點雜菜湯,但原來每天只有一款。
今天是番茄湯。

點番茄湯似乎也很保險,味道應該很容易令人接受。
於是便點了。
豈知,店員說今天沒有番茄湯。
我們便打算點乳酪。

當我們想下單之際,番茄湯突然出現!
……算了罷,我們只算喝點東西來緩和一下口中的辣味。

很奇怪,番茄湯中那些東西不是番茄。
朋友說有點像我們港式的油條。

我也嚐了一口,果然!
外皮是脆的。
中間已經滲進了滿滿的湯,變得綿軟。
像麵包吸收了水份的口感,但這美味多了。

如果想吃到香脆的外皮,待湯一奉上,便應立即進食。
湯則可以留待稍後慢慢喝。

至於湯的味道,竟然出乎我們意料之外!
一點也不保險……
因為完全不是平常喝到的番茄湯的味道。

香料味很濃,全蓋過了番茄的味道。
朋友不能接受。
而我,不覺得難喝,只是口味不習慣便是了。

還有一件令我們驚訝的事。
在乘坐巴士回程途中,才發現帳單的數目好像不對。
是數目少了!
$192,即給我們打了8折!
是信用卡優惠,還是進餐時段的關係?

To quench my thirst I ordered one of my favourite drinks- Mango lassi- a blend of water, yogurt, cream and mango pulp. This refreshing cooler was a great way to start the meal- especially for people who can't handle exceptionally spicy foods such as myself- its nice to take a milk-based drink to relieve your tastebuds from that capsaicin zing

Next up was a plain dosa. Paper thin, dosas are made by placing the batter flat on a special girdle and greased with ghee (clarified butter). The dosa was light and fluffy with a slight crunch, and fared well with the coconut chutney and sambar. Next time I come, I'll definitely try out some of their other dosas such as their cheese and masala selections.

The Woodlands Special Thali consisted of 11 different types of sauces, curries and dips, paired with chapattis (Indian flatbread), a poppadom (crispy wafer-like spiced bread), and biryani (a rice based dish with different spices and ingredients). Whilst I don't remember each sauce distinctly, in general the red sauces/curries were spicier than the yellow ones. The white sauce is called raita and consists of yogurt with grated cucumbers, onions and carrots, and is usually served with the biryani. The orange sauces were thicker and more curry-based, with different ingredients such as potatoes, lentils and chickpeas, which all went really well with the thick chapattis. To me, this is the perfect dish for anyone who gets bored from eating the same type of food constantly as you can try out a wide range of different sauces with different breads and rice.

The sauce with the little balls in it actually turned out to be some sort of sago/tapioca dessert called kheer- a tapioca pudding flavoured with saffron, cardamom and nuts. I thought that whilst the texture of this dish was nice, it was a little bit too cloyingly sweet for my liking.

The biryani was lightly spiced and moist, and tasted great with the sauces and kheer.
Overall, I had a very nice meal at Woodlands. I'd definitely recommend it to those who are looking for something different other than chicken korma and tandooris, as well as vegetarians.

Most people who went into this place were Indian, so we thought the food must be good. It haven't disappointed.Samosa is always my favorite Indian snack. This one was filled with potato and beef. I have never tried BUTTERMILK in my whole life, so why not order one? I though this is a sugary drink, turned out it was savory, and very savoury! like yogurt with a few tablespoonful of salt. Just not my cup of tea...
