今日收工突然想食泰國菜,就到位於九龍城泰皇閣泰國菜館食返餐好味嘅泰菜。入到店內環境氣氛及裝修都好有泰國風味,感覺好輕鬆。生蝦刺身生蝦一碟有六隻,蝦肉厚身啖啖肉,色澤晶凝通透,配搭泰式辣醬一齊食,味道不錯👍泰皇閣招牌炒飯炒飯賣相不錯,配料主要海鮮為主,有青口,鮮魷,鮮蝦等….樣樣都很新鮮,份量亦不少,入口每一啖都食到海鮮,雞蛋成網狀包住飯,食的時候要用匙羹拆開再撈埋一齊食,蛋味道香噴噴,加入了少量茄汁一齊食,飯的味道酸酸地很開胃。泰東豬肉生菜包生菜新鮮嫩綠,豬肉炒得多汁又嫩滑,包住一齊食,食唔停口。椰汁冰食泰菜必點的飲品,椰汁飲落香濃的椰子味味清甜可口😋

今日約左個女仔食泰野😎,但入面位置唔太多,我地兩個人張枱有d 細,坐落有少少逼,同埋冇咩位放袋。如果叫得太多送都會唔太好份量算多,唔會太辣,菜都幾新鮮叫左"倉魚",因為另外個款好似好多骨咁。魚皮下有超多芫荽,魚肚個度仲塞左其他泰式香料 👍🏻👍🏻 魚肉好滑,條魚燒到好香椰青幾大,好清甜,不過入面d 肉唔算厚😆

食泰國菜首選九龍城本以為閒日夜晚小店比周末較易揾位,誰不知行過一轉頭就已經幾乎滿座,幸好是我們較早吃飯,否則,可能都要等位到底是呢間餐廳根本受歡迎還是泰國菜的魔力呢?基本上每逢吃泰國菜我都一定會吃燒牛肉,但這間餐廳的燒安格斯牛肉(青檸),真的要推薦給大家燒安格斯牛肉光看賣相已經很吸引,你看看中間粉紅色的肉質,澎湃的肉汁充斥口腔,特別是中間的那個部份,燒得剛剛好不會完全熟透,上面灑滿了青檸酸辣汁,份外刺激開胃。酸辣汁比較辣,如不能吃辣,只要吃內層的牛肉便不怕唷,每一片厚切之餘也很大片,有10幾塊炸蝦餅拼魚餅蝦餅炸得很香脆可口,而且十分彈牙蝦味算濃郁。炸魚餅還是第一次嘗試,但味道很特別,魚餅應該是用了多種魚肉混合而成,內裡還有蔥粒,沒有腥味之餘還吃到香蔥清新味道,配上泰式酸辣醬,外皮炸得脆脆,裡邊軟軟的,雖然沒有蝦餅那麼彈牙,但味道也不錯海鮮及菠蘿粒等配料十分足料,炒飯顆粒分明,而且菠蘿粒很多汁,配著每口飯來吃,酸酸甜甜的菠蘿汁很開胃。

光看賣相已經很吸引,你看看中間粉紅色的肉質,澎湃的肉汁充斥口腔,特別是中間的那個部份,燒得剛剛好不會完全熟透,上面灑滿了青檸酸辣汁,份外刺激開胃。酸辣汁比較辣,如不能吃辣,只要吃內層的牛肉便不怕唷,每一片厚切之餘也很大片,有10幾塊

炸魚餅還是第一次嘗試,但味道很特別,魚餅應該是用了多種魚肉混合而成,內裡還有蔥粒,沒有腥味之餘還吃到香蔥清新味道,配上泰式酸辣醬,外皮炸得脆脆,裡邊軟軟的,雖然沒有蝦餅那麼彈牙,但味道也不錯

海鮮及菠蘿粒等配料十分足料,炒飯顆粒分明,而且菠蘿粒很多汁,配著每口飯來吃,酸酸甜甜的菠蘿汁很開胃。

The Goods: The food do look as it suppose to be, and is well presented. The restaurant's fit out is ok, although a bit tight.
The Bads: I really do think it doesn't taste that authentic. In all fairness, it passes as Thai food but a not-so-tasty one that is. What really gave it away for me is the price. For example, the Tom Yum Gung only has one shrimp in the entire dish.
Damage: The two of us ordered 4 dishes, no drinks, and it came up to HKD361 (incl 10% SC), that's HKD180 per person. We originally ordered 4 dishes because I want to try different stuffs and take left over home, but portion is small enough we can finish all. We also didn't order any expensive stuffs (which are more expansive). There is also no lunch set/deal at this restaurant.

When we arrived (around 2pm) there were some people waiting outside, which is a good sign for me (still people queuing that late). We got the table almost right away because the queue is for 3 person's table (we were only 2). The fit out is good, but tables are a bit packed together, but fit-out is always not a point for me. The waitresses are polite, but none of them speak Thai. That's also ok IF the food is authentic. We didn't order any drinks because I always think drinks are a rip-off in restaurant. Normally if we don't order special drink, other restaurant will offer tap water almost automatically, but they didn't. I think they will give us some water if we ask (as I see at other tables).  That's still ok, but it took 1 mark off service.

What we ordered
We ordered all items from the main menu since it has no lunch set. As mentioned above, we ordered 4 dishes because I want to try more things and can take left overs back home (I even brought food containers). As it turns out, we finished all of it because portion isn't that big; we were just about full and I think most people will think the same.

The first dish to arrive is #308 Baked Fried Rice in Fresh Pineapple (ข้าวผัดสัปปะรด) at HKD82 (+10%). It was very fast and took less than 5 minutes which made me think they pre-fried the rice in bulk. As a cheapskate who buys a lot of premade meals (because it's cheap), I'm ok with the approach but would rather expect otherwise in a restaurant. The result is that it doesn't have the nice wok hei for fried rice, and the rice is slightly wet (a problem with pineapple in it). The first thing we noticed is the stronger than usual turmeric smell. The actual dish does use turmeric for the colour, but it's usually negligible. What comes after is quite bland, not enough saltiness and sweetness (in this dish usually from pineapple - but pineapples are cut in big pieces so it doesn't have the chance to incorporate into the dish). The meats that come with it consist of Chinese sausages, shrimp, mussel, and squid. They're not that fresh (judging from mushy-ish texture) and very little meat (2 small shrimp, 1 mussel, 2 pieces of squid, and a few tiny pieces of sausages). I've been complaining a lot, but it still tastes not bad, but not good either. Would definitely not recommend.

We always order a soup and it's #601 Tom Yum Kung Soup (small)  (ต้มยำกุ้ง) at HKD78 (+10%). This looks really good in photo, right colour, looks big portion. The reality is a bit disappointing though. The first thing we noticed is there is only one tiger prawn in this entire pot. It's not that big too. The rest of edible stuffs are oyster mushroom. My wife jokingly (with some grudges) said, they should call it Tom Yum Mushroom instead (Kung means shrimp/prawn in Thai). I was about to call the waitress to see if they actually missed it but I notice the table right next to us also had only one prawn, so I didn't bother. Now to the taste; it has all things as it suppose to be but they added way too much milk, not enough lime, and personally I think it's too sweet (normally if I say too sweet, it will be very sweet for most people).  With the taste alone I will give it a pass, but with one prawn at this price I feel I was ripped off.

My wife always order papaya salad with fermented fish, but they don't have it so we settled for #817 Green Papaya & Salty Crab Salad in Thai Style (ส้มตำไทยปู) at HKD58 (+10%). I didn't expect much from this dish in general, but this is next step. They might as well just not put in salty crab in the dish (but to be fair to them normal papaya salad costs the same price). There is very little to none of the salty crab taste in the sauce - it feels as if they just mix in the crab at the end, when you suppose to break the crab a little in the mortar so that the juice comes out (no one will actually 'eat' the crab. it's too salty). Beside that fact, it tastes exactly like normal papaya salad (i.e the no crab version), so I will give them a pass on this one. It'll probably be the only dish in this review I will give a pass.

The last dish took a while and I almost cancel it thinking I'd rather get snack elsewhere, but thought it should be the easiest dish (to not be too bad) and I waited. It's #401 Grilled Angus Beef with Lime (เนื้อย่างมะนาว) at HKD110 (+10%). The beef is pretty well made; charred on the outside and still medium rare. To be clear though, the very traditional way of it is not to cook it almost well done but with plenty of fat attached - to be honest I like this way more. The beef is quite tender too so I think it's quite good quality meat. I'm undecided on the portion (for the price). There is only one layer of meat in the photo (chopped cabbage underneath). If it's really good quality meat, then I guess it's fair. What disappointed me is the sauce; it has ginger in it when it doesn't suppose to, and it's also not sour enough (remember, "lime" is in the name). My wife said it's like them using Hainan Chicken sauce for the dish. I don't think the ginger in the sauce goes well with the dish, or maybe I'm just to rigid in my (authentic) expectation.

Some final thoughts, I think my reviews are a bit harsh if it were not in Kowloon City, but I traveled 1 hour to Kowloon City to have good Thai food (and affordable at that too). Also, my preference must be really different than most HK people, because anytime I picked a 'restaurant with a lot of positive review', it turned out to not be so good. I like good authentic food, affordable, and fit-out doesn't matter to me. This one has overwhelmingly 'smiley face' reviews though with so little 'ok' and 'crying face' reviews. It made me wonder; is it related to it being 'yellow' restaurant? I'm not here for politic though I'm here for food. In any case, below are the menu pages, you can decide for yourself!

今天揸車到九龍城食泰國菜,朋友介紹一間位於九龍城衙前塱道的泰國菜館。位置相當方便地鉄宋皇台站步行2分鐘就到。 到步後店員殷勤招呼入座,座位不算太迫,也可接受。我們看看餐牌,有非常多的食物選擇。我們點了幾樣喜歡的泰國食物,朋友最喜歡食的白灼螄蚶,入口超濃郁海產鮮味,肉質嫩滑可口,鮮味帶甜。泰國菜別叫的冬陰功,酸甜清膩不青不嗆,材料豐富,有大蝦,雜菌,蕃茄。當然也叫了青咖喱雞,豐厚味濃,出奇地清新不辣。食咖喱當然一定要有蒜蓉包配襯啦,蒜蓉包做得外皮鬆脆。食了這麼多龍尾的食物當然少不了點一杯清涼的飲品提子沙冰,新鮮的提子打碎配以綿綿沙冰簡直是絕配,為味蕾帶來清新感覺。

今日嚟到有香港泰國街之稱驚九龍城搵嘢食,今日嚟到呢間遠近馳名嘅泰皇閣,由於好多人排隊,想食嘅就記住要早少少嚟啦!今日我哋接近6:00過嚟,都已經要等位甜酸炸鰂魚同平時嘅泰國餐廳唔同,呢度嘅則魚,好鬼大條,揸得又香口,佢個甜酸汁,一啲都唔失禮,令到成個魚好開胃,題外話:佢個菠蘿真係幾好食炸皮蛋皮蛋嘅外殼其實就係蝦餅,入面仲有好香嘅皮蛋,一咬落去,有四種唔同嘅層次,好好食,鍾意食皮蛋嘅人不容錯過鹹肉炒菜鹹肉夠香口,菜夠新鮮,好食青檸沙冰呢個遊戲另一個推薦,清檸酸酸甜甜咁,好開胃,夏天食夠晒清新整體來講質素好高,我個人覺得係九龍城入邊最好食❗️❗️
