Came here on a busy Friday night after work and boy is this place popular. We had called the day before to try book a table and were told only walk in places were available. We were sooooo lucky 🍀 we got a table for 4 and pretty quick as well as the que was heaving by 7pm! A bonus was that we got a chabudai / tatami mat Japanese style table which was pretty cool 😎, but for guys it’s pretty painful to sit for a long period of time 😂 Note: walk in tables are usually seated at the round tables at
We were sooooo lucky 🍀 we got a table for 4 and pretty quick as well as the que was heaving by 7pm! A bonus was that we got a chabudai / tatami mat Japanese style table which was pretty cool 😎, but for guys it’s pretty painful to sit for a long period of time 😂 Note: walk in tables are usually seated at the round tables at the restaurant front.
The restaurant is fairly new, modern, clean with a natural Japanese timber house style theme which takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. The restaurant serves western / Italian Japanese fusion dishes.
There were four of us and each of us picked a dish, we started with the Wild Berries and beetroot salad 🥗, the salad was fresh and clean, the balsamic vinegar dressing was sweet and tangy with the right amount of acidity and oil. Perfectly balanced all round.
My friend, had chosen this place for the pasta and she asked the waiter which was the most popular pasta dish here, she was told it was the Parma ham artichoke edamame Gnocchi, which she picked. Wow this pasta dish was as probably the star ⭐️ of the night, it came with generously huge chunks of pancetta which lifted this dish as it gave it a depth of flavor. The Gnocchi was perfectly cooked Al-dente, but yet was soft and fluffy, amazing how they do that! The gnocchi was dressed with a buttery sauce and and sprinkle of cheese, again well balanced dish and not too heavy.
We all chose the meatball yakatori with teriyaki sauce and egg yolk as a small dish, the meatball had a beautiful golden brown crust which was sprinkled with sesame seeds and drizzled with teriyaki sauce, it is then mixed with the egg yolk by yourself. The meatball inside was well seasoned with a lovely smooth texture which was enhanced by the swirling it in the egg yolk 🤤 Note only 3 portions for this one.
The next dish we ordered that arrived was the Hokkaido Scallop Mentaiko Risotto, it was commented by one of us that it looked like a chinese style steamed pork meat patty 😂 The rice was perfectly cooked being creamy, smooth & consistently cooked throughout. The Mentaiko, which is a spicy cod roe, gave the dish its savory and saltiness or umami taste showing the Italian / Japanese fusion style of the restaurant. The scallops and cod roe on top gave the dish its freshness and color, but were nothing spectacular. I thought the scallops had a good sear and size.
The last main we ordered arrived last as it took the longest to cook, the 8 oz beef ribs, herb salad with french fries. The beef was perfectly cooked medium (slightly pink) and almost tender with a rich deep beef flavor, the herb salad was fresh and gave the dish acidity and the french fries were a favorite with everyone digging in with their hands, a perfect dish for sharing. I thought this dish could have come with a dipping sauce for the beef to add more fusion style to it, and a truffle mayonnaise instead of boring tomato sauce for the fries.
Then it was dessert time, where we ordered 2 dishes for sharing. First, to arrive was the chocolate pancake, with fruit, maple syrup and cream. The chocolate pan cakes were hot, light and fluffy and smothered in chocolate sauce, it was not overly sweet and very balanced, beautifully presented with fresh fruit & flowers. Second, was the french toast, with fruit, maple syrup and cream, heck just realised we ordered almost the same type of dessert 🤪, the garnishes were exactly as above 👆 except for the french toast and flowers 🌸 The french toast which was the thick cut baguette style bread was soft and absorbed all the flavors. It seems lightly pan fried instead of deep fried, which is good for the arteries. We all agreed this dish was more like a bread and butter pudding. Good thing about this dish was there were 4 slices of bread, which is perfect for sharing.
Overall, all dishes were beautifully presented, the presentation and quality of the food was that was a Michelin star restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant was chilled and calming, it was spacious with perfect lighting creating comfort, ohh except for the the guys on the tatami 🤪 Great value for money given the attention to detail in presentation for each dish. The service was top notch, with special mention to the young lady at front of house dealing with the table seatings, her customer service skills were that of a 5 star hotel staff. No wonder there are hoards of people waiting in line to eat here! The best dining establishment I’ve visited this year 2022!!!
