I fell in love with Est. de Comida Portuguesa "Porto" a few years ago after having their Baked Bread Sink w/ Bacalhau Mash Potato & Cheese. Since then, I try to make a visit whenever I go to Macau, but have failed to do so the last few times, so this time, even though my friend and I arrived didn't arrive until 2130, we had to visit! Arriving so late meant there was no queue. We walked straight in and there were just a few tables inside. There are pictures and chalkboards on the wall showing their recommendations for those who need help deciding what to eat. Like the last time I visited, which was at least 2 years ago, they still had a TV in the centre that played Amercian Pop music videos. Hygiene was okay.
Service:Since we arrived an hour before closing, the servers worked fast in taking our order, bringing our food, and bill. ( I hope they got off on time..hahaha)
Taste & Value:
Trying something new is my practice, so besides ordering the dish that made me fall in love with this place, we tried 2 new dishes. Now, this is what we got.
1. Baked Bread Sink w/ Bacalhau Mash Potato & Cheese ($88) An order comes with 2 balls of this goodness. Each is a puff pastry filled with mashed potato that is flavoured by Bacalhau covered with cheese. This dish is to die for!
The pastry is flaky, but fluffy. The mashed potato is smooth, and eating it with the pastry is just so magical. I remember it tasting even better last time. I think they could have used a little more Bacalhau this time. Nonetheless, it was still very good. This dish is a must get, but it is kinda heavy.
2. Curry Ox-tail ($83) The curry sauce was very nice, but the ox tail pieces were quite small with not much meat. Interestingly, my friends really liked the potato they had in the pot a lot, and I liked the onions. Not a bad dish. We were going to order some garlic toast to wipe up the sauce, but we forgot.
3. Creamy Angel Hair Pasta with Salmon ($78) This name of the pasta sounded so plain so I really wasn't expecting much. However, the taste was full of surprises! It wasn't your boring pasta in a watered down white sauce. The sauce was light, a little sweet and full of flavours, which was perfect with angel hair. Also, there was quite a bit of salmon chunks. I liked that it wasn't smoked salmon. Surprisingly, this dish was the best of the night! We were all glad we got this! Now, I have another must get dish at Porto.
4. Portuguese Pineapple Soda ($18) A very very sweet drink.
Final Verdict:I already can't wait to go again!
