Messina is one very expensive ice cream shop. Originally from Australia, it's one of the most popular artisan gelatos in the country. And now there is a branch here in Central. A sleek silver looking exterior. It's just as sleek inside. There are seats on one side and all the gelato on the other side. On the board there is also a series of limited flavours. The staff informs us that the limited flavours appear on the Australian menu at the same time. The staff also tells us that all the ingredients are shipped from Australia and only made here to remain fresh. Prices, however, are pretty steep. One scoop costs $60, 2 scoops is $75 and 3 scoops is a whopping $90! This is actually more expensive than Australia as one scoop is $5.30 AUD but here it's almost $11AUD! But is it worth it?
After trying a lot of samples, we decided on three scoops. The seasonal Nonno Antonio, Panna Cotta with Fig Jam and Amaretti and Passion Fruit Sorbet to give a bit of freshness to balance the creaminess of the other two scoops. The gelato was delicious. Super creamy and flavours were so intense. The Nonno Antonio was like an upgraded Nutella. There were bits of meringue and malto biscuits to give it texture. The Passion Fruit was so fresh. But my favorite was the Panna Cotta with Fig Jam. The flavor of the fig was intense. Loved the bits of amaretti in it as well.
While we were eating, the staff who was super friendly with us treated us to a scoop of boysenberry gelato. Extremely creamy and very sweet.
Yes, it was pretty expensive but completely worth it. The staff who was serving us was very friendly and enthusiastic in describing all the diffferent flavours. Will definitely be back but as it's a bit expensive, it might be for a special treat day.
