I came here because I wanted something not filling and the soba noodles were ideal for my huge appetite. After that, I was ready to eat something else.JP Deli is located conveniently in Sheung Wan close to Central. They serve a wide variety of bentos ranging from fried chicken, omelettes and curries.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Soba noodles with chicken meatballs:The soba noodles were really nice but the broth was a bit salty. In the broth, there was sweetcorn and seaweed that made the noodles more tasty. However the only thing that let it down were the chicken meatballs which I felt were not that fresh because they had a foul taste. It is really hard for chicken to have a foul taste so I suspect it had been cooked or refridgerated for a few days.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎Price: $50Service: OKYummy factor: the chicken meatballs could have been fresher.Saltiness levels: quite saltyNapkins provided: yesEnglish Menu: YesAir Conditioning: Yes◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎…
Cute little Japanese cafe (about the size of a shoebox) run by the sweetest Japanese lady! I ordered the Katsu don ($50), which is fried marinated pork cutlet over eggs and rice. JP Deli's version was delicious--not too heavy on the sauce, and the shredded seaweed topping added a nice crunch to the dish. Pork was also crispy and cooked well. For $50, it was quite a generous portion, yet I devoured the entire bowl. Lunch also comes with complimentary green tea, which was a welcome addition to the meal. I hope to come back again and try more items from their menu--like the curry rice! …
Went there for a early lunch, the shop is a small one but it has a Japanese style. They have japanese magazines, books... quite nice to read while waiting for my food.Ordered their No.1 Nanban Style Deep Fried Chicken. Um, they made to order which I quite like. The special cucumber sauce for the deep fried chicken is so amazing. The portion is ok for me (a guy). It was very nice the lady who serve me Green Tea after the meal. :)After, I ordered their potato croquette - curry flavor. Fresh and Hot. I like it.…
The unassuming front that I've walked past a few times did not catch my attention, but since my Japanese friend has started working there, we decided to meet there for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There's no daily specials today, she said, only weekdays, which is fine since there were lots of other things on the menu to order from.We had a chicken and egg donburi, a cold udon, a potato croquette and an onigiri. The cooling tea was a nice touch, free of charge naturally. Everything tasted fresh and had enough flavours to hold it together, which is what I needed on a slightly icky and humid afternoon. The onigiri was a little too hard and crispy and required a bit of chewing and chomping, especially when it cooled down. The potato croquette was much better, crispy on the outside, soft and mushy on the inside. The decor is simple, a bar with a few high chairs and a couple of tables. There's Japanese TV showing and a few Jap mags and books on the table, even some travel guide books to HK and Guangdong for Japanese tourists. All their cutlery and utensils are good-quality disposables which I can understand for takeaways and deliveries, but it's not like they can't wash up the dishes for eat-in diners. Hong Kong doesn't have an advanced recycling system like in Japan where every item has a designated collection bin, so I hope they can adopt a greener policy in the future. My friend said they received some feedbacks from customers, and especially the Japanese people reckon there are too many fried stuff on the menu, so they're going to make some changes in the near future, and my friend will be the chef come June!…

Don't you sometimes wish that a Taiwanese restaurant be run by Taiwanese, Spanish by Spanish, Malaysian food by Malaysian and vice versa? In Hong Kong, unless you can afford a very expensive meal at exquisite restaurants, authenticity, in this case, is hard to find. Japanese food, case in point, is a perfect case study whereby almost all (I might be exaggerating a bit here) Japanese joint is run by non-Japanese, and almost always, highly priced. I don't want sashimi or sushi, I just want a normal Japanese meal, made preferably by Japanese (doesn't count if you're born Chinese and lived in Japan for 1 year). JP Deli (not a deli in itself as they don't sell anything that you can bring home to cook) is located in Jervois St Sheung Wan, closer towards Bonham Street. It is clean, new, spacious, simplistic (with only 1 table-stacked with magazines, and 2 chairs), unless there's 0 customers, then you might be able to enjoy a nice quiet lunch (they close at 6pm). I ordered their specialty Bento box which I have totally forgot to take down its name for this purpose, BUT, it is delicious fried chicken with sesame sauce on top. Meal cost HKD$50, probably the most expensive meal out of all other options. Cheapest, guessing from memory, would be the $10 Croquette (looks good from what I can see by other reviewers). The lady that took my order, lo and behold, is Japanese! (grin with excitement). I had to wait about 10 minutes for my meal, but I couldn't care less with all the magazines I have to myself. Needless to say, I absolutely enjoyed my lunch. The chicken was in small bite sized pieces, easy to bite, so they say. The rice wasn't too much, thank goodness for that, as I hate wasting rice (some establishment LOVE giving out mountains of rice). You get 2 small portions of side dishes. I personally think it is a perfect portion for a lunch, unless you're expecting to do some hard core work out after lunch, it will satisfy you emotionally and physically.Till next time, O hai yo ga zai mas. …
