上星期在網上看到有人拍下某咖啡店的食物照片,當然我是被照片所吸引,而那一間咖啡店就是,這裡了。店舖在太古廣場4樓,店外設有吸煙區及座位,店外的枱面用作拍食物照一流,但因為小女子很怕煙味的關係,就只好走到店內坐~5點多還未太餓,和男友share一客double cheese burger 及點了兩杯latte先說雙層芝士牛肉漢堡,薯條分量很足,口感亦很實在,一人吃光也不過分 牛肉漢堡牛味重,有兩塊薄漢堡扒,不錯吃,包軟熟,但略嫌烘得不夠香。服務:只懂給餐牌及講英文的女侍應,全程木口木面

先說雙層芝士牛肉漢堡,薯條分量很足,口感亦很實在,一人吃光也不過分
牛肉漢堡牛味重,有兩塊薄漢堡扒,不錯吃,包軟熟,但略嫌烘得不夠香。

服務:只懂給餐牌及講英文的女侍應,全程木口木面

Let's start with the good. They have the best cheeseburgers I've had in HK (they are like an upscale version of In-N-Out burger). The spicy fries on the side are a great pairing. Now the bad... happy hour beers are a rip off. I like to order my beers in 1/2 pints where possible as I don't mind paying a little bit more to have cold fresh pours - but I have never seen a 1/2 pint glass so tiny. They should be ashamed of themselves, considering their happy hour prices aren't exactly a steal. Then get this, we ordered full pint glasses and they're the size of 1/2 pints you would normally get at other bars. Also, they don't have a proper happy hour snacks menu, just a condensed version of their dinner menu at the same prices. By the way lunch is also a condensed version of their dinner menu. If they made a better effort with their beers & snacks this place would be a real winner.

Went for diner there at 9pm. The place looks stylish. It all started with an aggression on still or sparkling water. Followed by vague answers on dish details. No mocktail served there. Sea bass came with 2 leaves of Choi. Soup was ok. 4 slices of baguette were overcharged and served 15 mins later. I suggest to rush if you like to try this place. Considering the amazingly poor staff level and average food, the place is not expected to stay long in business. Beer pints are 43cl, as per "American

Considering the amazingly poor staff level and average food, the place is not expected to stay long in business.

The place:  modern and nicely decorated but the tables are a bit small.The staff:  friendly and attentive enoughThe food:  Overall just average as some dishes were decent and some were disappointing.  For appetisers, we tried the Commissary wedge salad which had three small wedges of romaine lettuce, some bacon bits, one small cherry tomato cut in half, and some ranch dressing.  Tasted ok but the portion was a bit small.  We also had the brisket tamale which was shredded beef brisket stuffed ins

The food:  Overall just average as some dishes were decent and some were disappointing.  For appetisers, we tried the Commissary wedge salad which had three small wedges of romaine lettuce, some bacon bits, one small cherry tomato cut in half, and some ranch dressing.  Tasted ok but the portion was a bit small.  We also had the brisket tamale which was shredded beef brisket stuffed inside a "rice dumpling"-like dough.  The taste was surprisingly bland and the food was just lukewarm.  
Food was served really quickly and our main courses were served to us even before we had finished our appetisers.  For main course, we tried the fishtacos which had three soft tacos with fried fish fillet and coleslaw on top.  They were actually quite tasty.  We also had the pork ribs.  They were quite disappointing as the ribs were very dry and way too charred and the sauce was a bit too sweet.  The corn that came with the dish was fantastic but I would not recommend this dish.
Disappoint experience overall and I don't think I will go back.

和早前吃完白松露宴的208 Duecento Otto 一樣,屬JIA Group 旗下的餐廳。這集團的餐廳各有特色,總能在所屬菜系中做到differentiation,尤其是看過Yenn Wong 的專訪後,我更欣賞這位 restauranteur 在開新餐廳和營運上的心思和本領。Commissary 開在Pacific Place 4樓、對著酒店迴旋處的地方,其中1/3的座位是運用到這半室外但不會嘈吵的空地。簡單的掛上一串串燈泡,放著紅花綠葉的盆栽,寫意的氛圍油然而生。

室內亦不錯,一邊的酒吧比較熱鬧,架上五光十色的展示著各種酒釀;另一邊主要是用餐的圓桌和長方桌,燈光柔和,與小盆栽和簡單掛畫塑造出一襲美式餐館的小清新。實而不華的裝潢,恰如其分的令人感覺閒適。令人感覺放鬆,根本不需要瑰麗堂皇的裝置。

裝修上走平實的路線,餐牌的價目亦同樣親民。不談飲品,主餐牌只有一頁半,款式不算多但勝在夠全面;小食、頭盤、主菜、sides 和甜品中,每款都有各自的風格,清淡或濃味、小嚐或充飢都照顧得到。主菜中,尤見各種應有的肉類都在,上天下海的都不缺。親民價當道,頭盤一百元左右,主菜大多是百餘二百元。中午還未有推出套餐,都需依據這餐牌點菜,每人一客百餘的主菜未嘗不可,再加客三十餘的咖啡已經很完滿。由於位處商業區,在週末吸引假日人流絕非易事;週末有抵食的brunch menu,比這主餐牌的食物更light 更便宜。

甫坐下,先點了cocktail 和其他酒精飲品,因為8時前都是happy hour。我點的是以鹹焦糖為主調的cocktail,甜中帶點琴酒的典雅芳香,同行的女士和我一樣選上這款易入口的。驟眼看上去,白色的泡沫躺在淡黃的酒上,十足啤酒的模樣。表面的白泡其實是蛋白,入口極其順滑,碰到唇上的感覺似有還無,但跟著酒液滑入喉腔,中和了酒裡的甜度。

本來坐下只是打算飯前小聚,點上了很多小吃和頭盤,放到一桌都是。人多好辦事,碟都清得一乾二淨。其中一款是放在主菜中的 fish tacos,一人一件根本不算多,給我們當小吃般點來了。

我們大多都沒有特別鍾情於炸物,但有人堅持要點香口的來送酒,點上了炸得金黃誘人的洋蔥圈。沒有炸得死實,炸漿厚薄均勻,內裡的洋蔥還是汁豐爽脆的,外脆內爽、外香內甜。嫌未夠惹味的,更可蘸墨西哥辣椒味蛋黃醬,添上一抹香料和蛋的清香。

中午時吃poke bowl 常選上三文魚和吞拿魚作 toppings,這客小吃的陣容相似,但把base 換作香脆可口的tostada。大小有點像tacos,不過是烤脆的;其實是未弄碎變chips 的tortilla ,toscada 在西班牙文正解作烤,這字並沒道出它真身是什麼。掌心般大的tostada,肩負載著鮮甜的吞拿魚粒、芝麻和香草的重任。配料香甜軟腍,跟粟米片般的tostada 成了口感上的對比。感覺挺新鮮的,不過定價似乎有點進取。

小吃中我最喜歡的是fish tacos(這其實是在主菜一欄內)。每人想吃到一件,因此點上了兩客的份量,不過用一個大碟端上來而已。軟身帶粟米焦香的taco,盛著一大塊炸魚、醃製椰菜絲、蕃茄絲、橄欖和香草,一口中充滿魚肉的鮮嫩和微帶香辣酸甜的紛陳味道,口感和味道都不乏新鮮感。炸魚雖被份量頗多的配料蓋著,但仍能吃到魚肉的滑嫩,實為不俗之作。

喝完酒,認真當晚飯時,還是要點熱湯暖暖胃。看似份量不算多、陣容跟「罐頭湯」相似的周打蜆湯,用料和味道絕不欺場。湯裡有煮溶了的薯,但亮點在於半浮半沉的惹味薯片。

還以為這類西湯會放上能不少忌廉而質地濃稠,這客湯品是出乎意料的順口而不膩。鑽石蜆厚肉鮮甜,為數不少,跟稍為浸腍的薯片拌著吃,一口中鹹香和鮮甜俱備。百元一客湯品不算便宜,但在用料和味道層次的心思上,性價比則提高了。

有點像泰色生菜包的陣容,旁邊的生菜可以跟醃製鮮蝦一起放入口。不同的是少了泰式生菜包炒肉帶來的油膩感,鮮蝦粒爽甜,配以酸酸的醬汁是很醒胃的說。

因為好奇而點上的「墨西哥粽」,這是在香港前所未見的墨西哥菜式。真的很像端午節所吃的鹹肉粽,用葉裹著玉米粉和肉捏成長條狀的東西。配以洋蔥和香草,還有像蛋黃醬般柔滑的醬汁,味道層次比中國的粽要多。內裡的牛腩盡收香料的精髓,肉味豐腴。重口味和密度甚高之故,適宜多人分享時點上。

主菜方面,我們沒有點上納悶的飯和意粉,取而代之的是邪惡的漢堡和肉類。吃美國菜少不了點漢堡和ribs,奈何餐廳新開張,煙薰的步驟還在準備當中,這次嘗不ribs。特愛極滋味的牛味和濃郁的芝士鹹香間的衝擊,頓時把工作上的愁緒通通抹掉。這裡的薯條加了調味粉,不蘸茄醬都香口非常。以份量來說,這客漢堡跟薯條足夠成為大漢的午餐吧,那當然切開來分吃會少一點膩感啊。

菜名說是sandwich,但原來都是一個漢堡的模樣。以惹味的炸雞和酸菜絲取代剛才邪惡的芝士和牛肉,味道上少一點膩感,不過我覺得芝士牛肉漢堡的性價比高一點。不知一眾食肉獸會否同意,如果價錢相若,選牛好像比選雞值一點嘛…

澳洲牛不及美國牛般濃味,但吃這些牛的什麼部位都同樣影響口感和味道。愛牛者對hanger steak 和skirt steak 的忠心和鍾愛應該不容置疑,而這客煎得漂亮帶焦香的skirt steak 肉質鮮嫩,不乏油潤感,不用多咀嚼下近乎入口即化。這個部位的肉味夠濃,即使用上澳洲牛,都有著美國牛的惹味度。

 沒想過sides 都會美味得要encore 的,其香甜和焦香實在令人驚喜。搽上蜜糖牛油來烤,椰菜花有著一身金黃,咬下先是蜜甜、繼而清甜的味道;淡雅的清甜就是來自椰菜花本身,後製的蜜甜是一大亮點。

有些人不喜歡吃青豆,但我卻不怎麼抗拒。單是青豆和荷蘭豆碎本是普通不過,但加了溫泉蛋、拌入蛋漿是另一種清新的感覺。相比烤椰菜花,無疑光芒稍遜,但算是頗清淡的一客蔬菜吧。

點上兩客較特別的甜品,恰巧是較重口味的,因此每人吃一兩口已甚為足夠。先是極重鹹焦糖味的朱古力「布甸」- 其實我認為這是朱古力醬。旁邊有朱古力曲奇讓我們蘸著甜中帶鹹的朱古力醬吃,特愛焦糖香以我欲罷不能。質感頗為濃稠,易生膩感,建議多人分吃便好。當然,多幾塊曲奇就更好、更易放進口啊。

聽說這裡的紅絲絨蛋糕份量很大,果然名不虛傳。甜度嘛,要有心理準備哪裡的紅絲絨蛋糕都是頗甜的。紅色只是色素,沒有對味道起作用,入口甜中帶點cream cheese 的微酸,質感細滑有致,還不賴。紅白相間的外表,會令你想起聖誕老人的裝束嗎?

加州南部菜是比較少接觸得到的美國菜類別,位於與墨西哥接釀的邊界,既有美國菜的一貫豪邁奔放,又有墨西哥菜的神秘色彩。菜式和路線之廣,加上處於高級商場但非離地的價位,令Commissary 贏得注目和青睞。這餐中最難忘的是嚐過「墨西哥粽」Brisket tamale,長了對墨西哥菜的認識。嚐過豐盛的晚餐後,看來在金鐘吃午飯又多個選擇,至少我會再點周打蜆湯、招牌漢堡和烤椰菜花;金鐘這「美食沙漠」,終於見到萌芽之處了。

Up until recently, I don't think I could have!

Commissary is the restaurant that might just be able to open up the whole Southern Californian culinary scene; especially if the Culinary Director has anything to say about it.  Morgan McGlone may be a New Zealand-born Australian, but deep in his heart, he's an honorary Southern gentleman and, after working in the well known South Carolinian restaurant Husk, is bringing something a little different to our shores.

Together with diehard Southern Carolinian Executive chef Adam Shoebridge and uber HK restauranteur Yenn Wong of the well known JIA Group, the trio have created a space that brings touches of Southern American flavours, mixed with Mexican influences and then given a bit of SoCal (Southern California) glamour treatment.

When I arrived at the quite contemporary looking Commissary, I was completely surprised by how quickly the Pacific Place restaurant had appeared.  The area that used to be a high end fashion outlet had been completely transformed and in its place was an alfresco area fronting a cool looking dining area that was a mix of styles and was hard to pin down to any particular look and feel.  Modern art adorned the bare concrete walls, tables were odd shapes and sizes and the space had a general 'right now' feel that was both homely and restaurant(y).

Once seated, we were given a run down of the menu, which had a hodgepodge of styles that were broadly recognisable as Southern American.  Listed as Snacks, Starter, Sides and Mains, the menu was more suited to individual dining; moving away from the share dining trend that has dominated menus for the longest time.

Ironically, feeling in a sharing mood, we opted to grab a selection of menu options and buck the recommendation of individual dining.

A trio of deviled eggs appeared, the rustic looking dish given a little bit of a refresh and modern look with the addition of of salmon roe.  There was a strong hint of mustard that, while not overly hot, provided a good hit to the back of palate.  The addition of the roe was a nice touch that gave just enough salty flavour to help balance out the punch of the mustard.

There was no shortage of a salty hit with the next starter; the sardines on toast was intensely flavoured, combining a tomato paste and pickled onion with the strong flavour of the sardines.  I'm a huge fan of sardines, so I quite liked the dish, but I think I would have loved a little more of the salty and oily fish on the toast; to really give it a little 'oomph'.

Perhaps my favourite dish of the night, the pickled prawn with fennel and red onions, came next.  The rustic looking dish involved getting your hands a little dirty and stuffing the prawn mix into the lettuce cups provided; then stuffing them in your gob!  One of the specialties at Commissary, the home pickling process had transformed some common ingredients into something special.  The prawns were just superb and quite more(ish), and I found myself returning to the dish, even as other plates piled up at our table.

Another absolute winner was the blending of fresh tuna and guacamole with red onion.  The tuna tostada was incredibly messy to eat, the only real way of devouring was picking the lot up with your hands and stuffing it in your mouth.  The sweet freshness of the tuna working nicely with the creamy avocado and slightly acidic bite of the red onion. The dish had it all, sweet with sour and crunch from the tostada; it had a real Mexican feel.

There were floaty bits of potato crisps in the Clam Chowder, which was beautiful and creamy and filled with slightly chewy Cloudy Bay diamond clams.  The potato crisps were an interesting addition, which I though I wouldn't like (not a fan of soggy crips) but they really helped to add some salt and texture to the chowder.  I found the chowder to be a little thinner than I expected, so the crisps helped solve that problem.  There were heaps of little clams to munch on too, but it was a huge serving and we couldn't finish it off  before the next pile of food arrived.

Normally served in a massive bowl, we were saved the embarrassment of trying to spoon the shrimp and grits into individual bowls ourselves; the team at Commissary giving us all pre-filled bowls.  I don't mind telling you that I was starting to understand the concept of the restaurant; big flavours and even bigger servings!  Huge, expertly cooked prawns were mixed in with the grits, which were a lot more blended and smooth in comparison to what I was expecting.  I really loved the soupy sauce that came with the grits, it was smooth and sweet, and helping to bring the grits and prawns together were some stewed tomato chunks.

I was feeling quite full by the time the fish tacos arrived; the very rustic looking tacos had some deep fried fish that was just a little bit too spicy for my palate.  The soft taco shells easily wrapped the spicy coleslaw, but it was still messy eating; thankfully I managed to keep most of the tacos in my mouth and not over my clothing!

In keeping with the huge serving sizes, our dessert options were massive too; huge portion sizes and big flavours.  None bigger in size than the Red Velvet cake.  Looking spectacular on its plate, the red velvet layer cake mixed perfectly moist sponge with cream cheese frosting to provided the best version of the well known cake I'd ever had.

There was a lot to like about Commissary - even though the place had only been open a few days, it was packed already.  The relaxed al fresco dining area out front was filled with well dressed business folk enjoying a cold beer or two; the dining area inside was packed with an eclectic group of diners that were equally as interested in finding out what the whole SoCal dining experience was all about.

One word of warning though; the food at Commissary is very comforting, very homey and very filling.  With serving sizes that are generous (to say the least) and quite reasonable prices, there'd be a risk of significantly over eating.  The food is surprisingly subtle with their flavours, sure, but there are some big tastes with some of the dishes, especially the fish tacos. I found the menu to be quite accessible and with plenty more options to try than I could possibly eat in one sitting.

Commissary is the latest in a line of new restaurants at Pacific Place, very much changing the dynamic of the area.  It seems that PP is now rapidly becoming a foodie destination.

Lucky for me, it's just a short walk from my apartment!

其實之前從朋友得知這裡的double cheese burger味道很讚,而且連薯條每客才$158,以金鐘價來說實在吸引!這夜所見也有不少食客點這漢堡。可惜我們這夜有點飽,只好留待下次再吃。反正大家這次出訪都對這裡留下良好印象,我們都知道一定會再來

Day: Thursday, 17th Nov; Time: ~1.00 pm: My office is located in the same building as this place. We arrived at 1.00 pm without a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. The order was taken promptly: Cheeseburger and Grilled Fish. And then:.....the food just did not arrive. It was only when I enquired about our order did someone realize that there was something amiss. 10 minutes after this, still no sign of our order. Since both of us had work appointments, left without eating. Will think

Decided to try out this new place in PP2 (where I work) for lunch. We were seated in a few minutes, ordered shortly thereafter (not any of the "30 mins cooking time stuff") and waited for 45 minutes before leaving. None of the staff even bothered checking. It'll be  a long time before I go in here..  Can't really say anything about the food or the value for money, since we did not eat anything, but for the sake of the review..one star
