The Landmark Cafe is very much an icon in busy Central. It has gone through various renovations. What it is is that it is a high-end Maxim's western cafe/restaurant in the very heart of Central which guarantees high turnover virtually 7 days a week. It is by no means perfect or of the highest calibre but it is very dependable and in many ways it serves comfort food the way Hong Kong people recognise Western-style cafe fare. It is filled with tourists and local loyalists alike. For lunch this time
For lunch this time we had one set lunch (HKD 280) and two a la carte pasta dishes, foie gras spaghetti (HKD 200) and lobster risotto (HKD 280).
The set lunch came with a green salad which was fresh and the perfect precursor to the curry prawns with rice which was the main course. The curry prawns only had 7 small peeled prawns but they were flavourful and did not taste "frozen to death" as it is often the case with curry seafood. Other than the prawns, there are 2 medium cubes of potatoes, a few pieces of cucumbers and tomatoes for garnish, and only a small portion of rice about the size of a small cup of jelly. Yet it is very comforting to have this almost Hong Kong style of curry, as it is neither India, Indonesian nor Malaysian/Singapore. It does not come with any condiments at all which I would often fault but here I am ready to forgive especially since this is actually an improvement on its previous version which was milder. Now it is not greasy, too firey nor too mild. There is also coffee or tea to follow.
