Ambience:  the key dining area is very no frills and basic and a bit dark.  There is a dining area in the wine shop which is more interesting as it is more open but seems to have only large tables.  Oh also the air conditioning was too cold so food became cold VERY quickly.Service: adequate but not attentive.  For example, we had the chicken which of course had bones but we were not given any extra plate to put the bones.  Also some wet wipes or finger bowls would have been appreciated.  Small g

Service: adequate but not attentive.  For example, we had the chicken which of course had bones but we were not given any extra plate to put the bones.  Also some wet wipes or finger bowls would have been appreciated.  Small gestures like these should be expected from fine dining restaurants.

Food:  What is it with small portions in fine dining?  The starters were just too small!  We had the Parmesan souffle and tomato tart with burrata for starters.  Both tasted fine but just a bit underwhelming.  For HKD280-290 each (USD36), I thought they were way overpriced and should be more like HKD120.
We also had the famous chicken which tasted ok but definitely would not be "one of the best 3 roast chickens in HK" (the others being those at Louise and Belon). In fact the breast meat was a bit dry.  Also, I had expected more flavours (from different herbs) but it tasted surprisingly "one-dimensional".  It was quite similar to roast chicken at some Chinese restaurants.  The rice that came with the chicken tasted ok but was a bit mushy.

The tarte tatin was also disappointing.  It was a small lump of poached apple on pastry and was too sweet.

The complimentary mint tea after dessert was a nice gesture.

I am finally back after so many months since I couldn’t secure a table earlier 🥺 They are still impossible to book nowadays. A surprise here with so many truffle shredded! The Jerusalem artichoke based soup was pretty smoothy had an earthy note to pair with the truffle! Love the mild savoury kick from the cheese too 🧀

I had high expectation to it but it was so so to me. The presentation was top notch but the beef was chopped too fine for my preferred chewy coarse texture 🧐

My favourite starter of the night ❤️ It’s like a mini puffy margherita 🇮🇹 The tomato was so fresh while the puff was super flaky! I think I could finish two of it easy. Went super well with the champagne too.

This TW ma yau was slightly aged and grilled to turn its skin into a thin crisp😋 The fish was okay only but the sauce vierg did add some much needed citrusy and light up the flavour. But the fennel salad on side was not matching🧐

The chicken was first brought to the table for photos before carving. The aroma has already proved its worth and fame. The skin was perfect like Chinese style fried chicken and the meat was like 95% cooked leaving the bone slightly raw for perfect doneness. My favourite part was the tail 😍 Its gamey and intense in fatty flavour, and the texture was unique. If you are fine with tail, you should grab this part. Some described their rice as Hainanese style which I gotta agree since its chicken oil flavour was amazingly outstanding 👍🏼

The fries were very nice with mashy interior! But the highlight was definitelt the generous amount of Alain Milliat ketchup 😂 Four small jars plus fries costed within a hundred?! What a STEAL‼️

Salty was my first reaction. The sea salt here was very strong that we had to remove half for balance flavour. But after that, the chocolate flavour was nice and lengthy🍫

OMG it’s so much smaller than before but as well as so much better too. I am honestly not a big fan to madeleine since it’s a boring cake to me. But make it smaller gives it more crispy exterior to the cakey interior. The mild lemon kick was delightful here! Nice one albeit a bit pricy 👀

This apple tart was also much better than my last visit, and the last was already a bomb 😍 Seems like their pastry section improved a lot! The pastry was so fluffy and buttery. With the warm and soft cooked apple inside contrasted with the ice cream on the outside. My belly was totally satisfied 😋

Batard is notorious for being difficult to book. For the August bookings, the reservation starts on the 1st of June 12:00. The first dish was such an interesting take to the traditional appetizer and packed with flavors. It looked quite small but actually was filled with beef tartare and mustard seasoning.

We both added the angel hair and definitely was a great choice. Despite the angel hair being so thin, it was still al dente and the flavors of the truffle seasoning and caviar blended so well in this dish.

For the raviolo, the squid filling was springy but in view the crustacean sauce was so rich, it kind of took away the limelight of the filling.

The star came out and it was definitely amazing. The chicken was from Yuen Long and it was gleeming from the marination when served. The skin was crispy while the meat was tender and juicy. The rice stuffed inside was also rich from the flavors of the chicken.

Despite the long wait and difficulty in booking, I am actually quite happy with the meal.

The signature coke angel hair with caviar is done very well. Wish that portion size could be a bit bigger as I can easily finish one portion myself. The burrata tomato tart was nice with a very flaky tart.

Was lucky enough to try their grilled threadfin as it was the first night on the menu. It was one of the best piece of threadfin that I have had this year. Super crispy skin and the fish was sweet.

Not really a fan of pork pie but this one was good. Love the pastry.

Finally got to try Bâtard's Signature Roast Chicken. As one of the four famous chickens of Hong Kong, I am glad it did not disappoint. The chicken was succulent and flavorful. Love the warm pilaf rice. I love this version way more than Louise tbh.

Finally the desserts, the apple tart uses the same pastry as the burrata tomato tart. Can choose either one. Their baked Madeleines are the best out of the bunch.

Overall, it was a very pleasant meal and I felt the wait is justifiable.

This is probably my favourite dishes of the day. Perfectly seared carabinero, lovely squid mousse inside the raviolo. The sauce is so rich and full of seafood flavour. I can just drink it like a soup.

Batard’s Signature Roast Chicken
No.1 popular dish. Bet almost guests from every table would order the chicken. They use fresh local three yellow chicken from Yuen Long. Brine for one whole night. Meat is so juicy and the skin is so crispy and full of flavour. Even the breast is so tender. Just can’t stop having more!

I don’t usually like madeleines but they surprised me! Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Love them and I actually finished all the 3🤣

Finally able to try Batard after all these years. Their lunch sets are a really good deal, with five courses at $500. We loved all the dishes especially the crustacean sauce! Their chicken is also very juicy inside with crispy skin. The pilaf rice was amazing after absorbing all the chicken juices
