After finding Shakey's on openrice, we ventured forth to Central. It was reletively easy to find. The elevator door opened to reveal a large, clean, brightly lit restaraunt with only two customers and 7 staff. This was 8pm on a friday and the place was empty. Although the restaraunt's main dish is Pizza, we were here to try their world famous chicken. The servers had our drinks served quickly and well poured. Now the first problem, the menu. Bright and colorful but no famous chicken. There are pictures of chicken on the wall but not in the menu. Thats because they consider their chicken an appitizer, so we are looking in the wrong place. We ordered a Ceasar Salad and of course the 5 piece appitizer chicken and a potatoe dish called MoJo Supreme.
The Ceasar salad was great. Fresh crutons, crisp lettice, and an anchovy enriched dressing. Now came the Mojo. Slices of potatoe that were originally deep fried, then sat and awaited someone to order. They are then put on a dish and baked, causing the grease to saturate the potatoe and pool at the bottom of the dish. Some cheese, and sour cream finish off this dreadful tasting dish. Sure doesn't look like the picture. Now for the chicken. Five nicely large pieces of chicken with no coating, no herbs and spices, no nothing, deep fryed to a tastless golden brown and served on dish without any garnish. No taste, dry, and unfulfilling. Not like the beautiful picture that I stared at as we ate.
The management was not concered over my comments and told me whats the way we cook.
Shakey's has lost it's MoJo, and I won't be back.
