Wife made a reservation for our anniversary. We've been there a few times and each time they have given us probably the worst seats in the restaurant. This time we didn't even have to make an effort since we were seated right by the front entrance. Now I never fussed over seating since the food had generally been good and the seating isn't exactly horrible. I also understand that a booking just a few days in advance and not specifying where I would like to sit would result in some undesirable seating. However, my wife did mention our anniversary and it was just disappointing that after several visits we had yet to be seated anywhere decent. I point this out also because this time the food was definitely nothing to write home about. Usually we order a la carte but this time we decided to try the steak and lobster set starting at HK688. I paid extra for the ribeye. Now I didnt ask if the steak was the same as a la carte because it was simply named the same with the same weights. I also assumed they are the same prime aged meats. I ended up disappointed from everything except the sides. Starter was a Lobster bisque which was barely the size of a small cup. Lobster flavor was mild and creamy so I guess its a matter of preference but my main gripe was they put one small piece of lobster in the bisque which I thought was quite tacky. The main's were ribeye+lobster tail and wife had filet mignon+crab cake. Crab cake was fine. Lobster tail was slightly overcooked but my complaint was the steaks which was basically why I went to Morton's. The cook on the steaks were just as we requested but steaks had almost no beef flavor. Not enough seasoning? More importantly the steak was somewhat dry? The filet mignon I can forgive because its lean meat but rib eye? I remembered the first time I went to Mortons, I had a rib eye and the crust was decent and the meat was super juicy with just enough beef flavor. Its was a steak that I would come to compare a lot of other restaurants to and I often felt Morton's  had good value. However, this time I almost felt cheated. I didn't make a fuss which in hindsight maybe I should have but the meat had almost no beef flavor. No crust since it was on a hot plate with some juice/oils which ruined any crust it might have had. Most importantly it was the leanest rib eye I had ever eaten which made it almost similar to the filet. I also could not taste any aging. I thought afterwards was the steak just the same cut meat but without the aging? Was this really prime or just choice grade....... Dessert was also pretty bad. We had a complimentary souffle and then our set meal creme brulee. Now souffle seemed a bit under cooked and just served with a creme anglais which made it pretty bland. Creme brulee I must say is one of the worst ones I've had in a while. I appreciated the fact it used real vanilla (seeing the specks) but it didn't taste any different from other lesser restaurants. Most upsetting was the brulee had thick coating of sugar that wasn't charred enough to caramelize properly. So in essence it was super sweet like eating sugar without caramel flavor. Anyways, I had such a bad meal I was thinking about it all night afterwards wondering what went wrong. Was it because I ordered a set menu? Finally, I do want to say that their service wasn't all that bad they did all the right things you expect from service point of view, I simply just didn't make a point to fuss over seating or complain about the food. In conclusion, this experience has made me rethink where I would like to eat a great steak dinner in HK in the future.
