Having visited 古今 in CWB, I said yes without second thought when my lunch partner suggested this 古今二 branch in Kwun Tong. It was located in a factory building. Interior renovations were such a big contrast with the factory building outside. It was quite Japanese although less so compared with the CWB one. Their long list of creative Maki Rolls was their selling point. Apart from these, they also offered sashimi, sushi, salad, appetizers, grilled dishes, tempura, rice etc.Maki rolls were a must.

Maki rolls were a must. We ordered 3 Maki rolls, one tempura, one skewer and one salad to share. All the dishes were new to us.

Miso Soup

2 complimentary miso soups were served to us. Their miso soup had some dried tofu sheets, seaweed and chopped spring onion. It was  above average.

Smoked Salmon Salad (Smoked Salmon, Lettuce, Salmon Roe, Cesar Sauce) at $75+10%

It was quite a creative fusion salad of Western and Japanese. There were 3 slices of smoked salmon with some salmon roes and Japanese egg slices bottomed by loads of fresh lettuces and a few cherry tomatoes. It was a very refreshing and healthy dish with crispy fresh lettuces and juicy salmon roes when burst highlighted by Caesar salad dressing and some cheese. Portion was big!

秋葵蝦肉天婦羅 Okra and Shrimp Cake Tempura $48+10%

There were 5 pieces. It was such a creative dish. The batter was reasonably thin. The shrimp cake inside was pretty smooth and a bit bouncy. Using okra as the skin made it a much more healthy dish.

黑豚荔枝卷串燒 Berkshire Porks and Litchi $38+10%

There were 2 skewers each of 3 pieces. The pork slice was crispy and spicy with black pepper and the litchi ball was super sweet and juicy. It was quite a creative combo with lots of different flavours and textures.

Then here you come the highlight of the meal - which were Maki Rolls! They placed all three sets of rolls on one single plate and presentation was very nice. There was no need to add soy sauce or wasabi to eat with the rolls.

相撲力士 Sumo Hero (Sashimi, Cream Cheese, Crab Fillet) $88+10%

Did they look like some sumo heros lining up together? There were 8 pieces. Each piece was topped by either salmon, tuna or 立魚 sashimi with some salad dressing. The sashimi was quite fresh. Inside the rolls there was some crab stick with cream cheese wrapped by seaweed and sprinkled by some black and white sesame. Quite refreshing indeed.

火山 Volcano Roll (Scallop, Avocado, Crab Fillet, Cucumber) $88+10%

There were 12 pieces of rolls stuffed by crab stick, a little bit of avocado and cucumber sprinkled by black and white sesame and wrapped by seaweed. There were a lot of crab stick shreds with some scallop and crab roes mixed with spicy salad dressing on top to build the volcano. It was good to eat the rolls with the toppings.

We had not paid attention to the menu when we ordered, so all of our rolls ended up having a lot of crab stick and the same slightly spicy appetising sauce. Next time, should try out something else. Overall, the creative Maki rolls were again quite impressive and super IG-able. Hope to try more next time.
