Also known as Yi mein, these are wheat and egg noodles, made with soda water giving it a springy soft texture, in addition to that chewiness. They were smooth and very easy to eat. And I was starving and polished that whole plate. In an effort to understand more, I read about the braising or cooking style of these noodles here . I haven’t had these particular noodles before but these tasted good here. One of the things I don’t appreciate is the use of plastic serve-ware or dinner-wa...

Was brought to Bitters and Sweets by friend for the first time.   Decor is comfortable and surprised that there was carpeting at a restaurant/bar.   Ceilings are double height and there is a long bar at the middle.  There is a large collection of home-infusions of alcohol spirits along the shelves.   IT seems that they specialize in home making ingredients.   Started with a gin and tea tonic which was a slightly bitter but refreshing version of a gin and tonic.   We had ...

The idli wasn’t as good as I’d expect. It’s safe to say I’m an idli snob, more because I prepare kick-ass idlis at home, so you’ve to really impress me on that department. Same goes for the masala of the masala dosa. The sambhar, I do a decent job as well. But hey, it’s not about me tongue Woodlands had good sambhar, the kind I like, with a balance of sweet sour salt, and the lentils not as liquid-y as some places. I like it a bit thick, so this was good. The thali we ordered ha...

I say “HIDDEN” coz there are so many vendors/hawkers in front of this dumplings shop.... that you cannot find this shop unless someone told you about it!! But it seems being hidden is not a problem for this shop.... judging by the long queue of customers excited. And I say “GEM” coz obviously the dumplings are SOOOOO GOOD that I can go here everyday for lunchyummy. Each dish has codes specified on the menu (S1, S2, F1, etc.), making it easier and qui...

We have been holding out to try this Thai restaurant since we arrived in Hong Kong. I have heard such great reviews about Samsen. We made sure we turned up early to avoid queueing with the lunch crowd. Very promptly we were shown to a table and offered water (still or sparkling) straight away. Water was poured from a bottle and was nicely chilled. The menu is the paper place mat. We quickly chose the Beef Noodle Boat and The Pad Thai Noodle Tiger Prawns from the l...

After spending the last few weeks thinking about Korean barbecued meat, I finally decided to take action today.  I only got about 45 minutes to spare so Bib n Hops was the perfect choice since last time, the entire meal only took 30 minutes. Head chef Yong Soo Do was nowhere to be found in the open kitchen today but that's understandable. Rumors had him really busy working on the third and fourth openings for the group (This time, it won't be Korean food though).  ...

As a big fan of Singapore food, I will try to research where are those restaurants in Hong Kong. Today i decided to bring my wife to one of those restaurants that sell Singapore and Malaysia food. Both of us preferred South East Asia food as they food carry more spice in it. Bak Kut King was located at Tai Hang, around 10 to 15 minutes walk from MTR.  Their menu offered most of Singapore and Malaysia signature dishes, such as Bak Kut Teh, chicke...

Great food, well presented and modern decor. Good sized and clean for kids. Has cooked and non cooked food variety. Mini rice sets gets to sample several elements of their menu and enough to fill up the stomach. Soft shell crab and avocado sushi roll was very well constructed. Drinks half price before 5pm.

Take a break café is a small and dark café at the corner of MK, with less than 5 tables. It was a night for a casual catch up. Two of us girls shared two spaghetti dishes and a dessert. Quality-wise, mains were standard and waffle was amazing. Portion-wise, mains were relatively small while waffle was the opposite. (A mix of Chinese ancient door and grand contemporary chandelier) A21 Cream sauce linguine with mushroom, salmon roe and sea urchin $180 Higher qu...

Lai Chi Kok is always a to-be-explored area because of the nearby D2 place where I could spend hours there. Named Mimosa Pudica, the binominal name of TickleMe plant/ humble plant/ shame plant/ shy plant whatever you name it, the restaurant is kind of shy in the way that the ambience is a big difference to the outside elevator area. It is located in the corner of the floor. Once you step in, relaxing music, artistic 3D walls and glass shelves etc. get you into another w...

They missed out my order of latte, and responded in a very rude attitude. Bad experience here. The servers here were impolite and not helpful at all. I chased for three times and not a single apology was given. All my friends had completed their meals and drinks..

Visited on Saturday nite, surprising, crowd atmosphere, thus little service.    Actually not all dishes was yummy!! Price per quantity is a bit steep though.   The Tempura was a bit peppery, still sizzling away softly, have been over cooked.
