My boyfriend and I arrived the restaurant like 30 minutes before dinner time, thus the restaurant was still tidying up and preparing for the dinner section. We started our meal with two pieces of Market Oysters and it served along with some aged vinegar, lemon juice, oyster sauce and olive oil. The oysters look very clean and appealing, however I was struggling about which sauce to put on my piece. After the taste of four sauces, I decided to go with aged vinegar and lemon juice. Simply add a drop or two aged vinegar and lemon juice, that hint of sourness can bring out the natural and fresh flavors from the oysters. People who sat next to us were attracted by its delightful appearance and ordered two as well.

Up next was another appetizer, Scallop Ceviche. I had a look on Instagram about this restaurant, seem like this is a must-order dish. Five pieces of yuzu sauce marinated raw scallop were placed on the stone plate, along with some sliced radish and cubed Chinese radish. The scallops are soft and smooth, that refreshing yuzu flavor will completely explode in your mouth. Then, the crunchy radish can bring some more textures and lead the dish to another level, no wonder this is one of the signature dish here.

This Salt Baked Beetroot Salad was absolutely gorgeous, as it got an eye-catching of sharp pink and orange colors. There are two colors of chopped beetroots and they were juicy and a bit of crunchy at the same time. Pairing the beetroots with plenty of goat cheese and create a perfect balance of the taste. Moreover, it is topped with few chopped peanuts and added the crunchiness to the dish.

The appetizers are in small portions, hence we decided to go for one more before the main. Jamón, Manchego & Truffle Toastie with Quail Eggs is basically a bite-size of sandwiches with couples of ingredients, filled the toasted bread with ham, manchego cheese and black truffle sauce. A hint of burnt flavor from the bread and smoky taste from the ham are quite appealing, which you can taste the light truffle too. And the end, topped the sandwiches with a quail egg and every ingredients worked well with another.

It’s time for the main courses, Baked Bone Marrow is one of the special here. Bone marrow is uncommon in Hong Kong, it is possibly more usual to see at the hot pot than western dishes. The mixture of bone marrow and beef is stuffed on the bone, and it is sided with gentleman’s relish and toasted bread and onion jam. The gentleman’s relish combines anchovy, butter, herb and some spices, thus it was melting on the freshly toasted bread. It contains a really rich flavor and tastes amazing, especially that sour onion jam can erase the heaviness.

A delightful meal gotta end with some desserts, so we ordered Peanut Butter, Condensed Milk and Bananas. The dessert is completely unexpected, the peanut butter is formed into a stick, condensed milk has been made into a icecream-ish thing, then sided with some frozen peanuts, caramelized banana and popping lime bites. All the ingredients were in special forms and textures, which was quite fascinating I would say. The condensed milk icecream and peanut butter stick are rather sweet, but the popping lime bites can totally freshen up the whole dessert.

Ambiance is really chilled, great music playing but the main focus of the restaurant is really their menu. It's a Tapas style restaurant and despite wanting to order everything off the menu, I'd stick to 2 plates if its just the two of you because dessert is heavy! 

The staff are incredibly friendly, place is cosy and I really enjoyed my meal there.

I had a really good time at 22 Ships.

It a rather small venue, but the layout is really cool.

The atmosphere there is vibrant, it's always busy but not too noisy.

I enjoyed couple of cocktails, presentation and taste were both good.

With my friends we share a few dishes.

You can pick from the menu and from the blackboard.

The selection is interesting, meat eaters, vegetarian and fish lover will all the satisfied!

We tried the mini burgers, the fish tartar and a few more dishes and everything was really tasty.

We hardly had space for dessert but we still went for it!

Service was good!

It a great restaurant to gather with friends.

I definitely recommend it!

Second one is the Suckling pig ($198) - The skin of the pig is very crispy and I loved it a lot ! The portion is bigger than we thought. The meat is very tender .And the taste .....hmmmm..... It's very interesting taste (in a good way). They baked it with phineapple  and red pepper.

Finishing we had Hawke's Bay lamb shoulder with eggplant and mint, with the meat cooked to good tenderness and easily flaked. Adding the eggplant and mint together there was a nice sweetness and minty flavors in addition, making this also a fairly good dish in my opinion.
The service of 22 Ships was decent, as one would not expect too much from such a tapas bar, but the price was quite high for the food we had, with the bill being $1,434 for 4 persons. Not value for money in my opinion, and the food quality and overall atmosphere would not make me want to go there again.
My overall rating is 40/100.

Let's just start with the seafood paella, the extremely small portion of the seafood paella.  It was the size of a chinese rice bowl...for HKD$128.  When a restaurant wants to charge a customer HKD$128 for such a small portion, each bite better be impactful and full of favors, or at least the seafood should look and taste fresh.  But sorry, this seafoold paella was none of the above.  I almost take it as an insult when I saw the size and after tasting it, that the chef or owner of 22 Ships take their clients as idiots, otherwise, someone who has some pride and respect to their jobs and businesses would not think it is ok to charge this price for this portion and its favors.  

Then there was the Crispy Oyster, let's not talk about how it tasted or the price.  It is placed under "para picar", meaning share dishes, but there is only one per order, so how do they expect customer "to share"???  

And they don't even offer bread at all, not even the first basket.  Each tiny piece of bread you want is HKD$5.  And I mean per tiny piece of bread...a toastie that is not even half the size of the palm.

Wine list selection was very poor and very boring, but kind of expected anywhere in HK...

The ambience is very good in 22 Ships, so far, but I wondered for how much longer?  Because how can any normal consumers feel satisfy after their meals and paying the price that they are paying??

I for sure will not go back or recommend this place to anyone...

Spiced quail with mint, yoghurt and cucumber ($118) - But the wheels were about to fall off. My second dish was spiced quail with a small salad and it was brutal. The skin of the quail was soaked with exotic spices but under that skin, the meat was so bland and tasteless!

Green tea cheese cake, lime and yoghurt ($88) - My favorite dessert here was their goat cheese ice-cream but since I have been trying to cut down my cholesterol, I decided to give up my beloved goat cheese and went with the green tea cheese cake. Big mistake there! The cake definitely had strong green tea flavors but where's the cheese?
