I visited the Med Star Mediterranean Cuisine in Hong Kong Gold Coast on Tuesday evening with a friend. The 962 bus travels directly from Central to Hong Kong Gold Coast – it’s a short walk from the bus stop to the restaurant. The K51 bus is available for those travelling from Tuen Mun.The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and is clearly able to seat a significant number of guests. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and is clearly able to seat a significant number of guests. The venue has a big screen projector and several televisions. It’s clearly a destination for sports enthusiasts with various football shirts on the wall (no Fulham FC though) and I look forward to returning to watch a game once the season resumes. On this occasion there was no sport on the TV nor music being played. There is a stage under the projector screen that I imagine is used for presentation or entertainment (live band) purposes. It was not being used on our visit. I felt comfortable sitting at my table and was able to talk with my friend without distractions.
The menu is extensive and includes food from around the world. My friend and I chose to have fish and chips as I’d had limited experiences since moving to Hong Kong. We waited around 20 minutes for our food. The food was served on a square plate and came with a salad, slice of lemon and sauces. I’ve struggled to find a good fish and chips in Hong Kong and was therefore pleasantly surprised when the food arrived. The fish was a good size, well flavoured and cooked well – it wasn’t greasy as is often the case. The chips were the closest I’ve found to those I’m used to in the UK – good size, well-cooked yet still soft. Just add salt and vinegar! The salad and sauces were as you’d expect.
The restaurant has a large drinks menu. I had a Carlsberg in a pint glass. It was poured well and served cold. There were various other international draft beers available in addition to a wide selection of bottles and spirits.
We interacted with several of the waiters during our visit. They paid close attention to our requests and checked in with us throughout our meal to check that everything was ok. I felt we could take our time when ordering and didn’t feel pressured to leave once we had finished. Service with a smile! The price was extremely reasonable and competitively priced compared to similar meals I’ve ate elsewhere in Hong Kong. This restaurant would make a great evening out for all – couples, friends and families.
Hong Kong Gold Coast is a great area with plenty of shops and entertainment options. I was in awe of the yachts that were moored in the bay. I’d recommend visiting and will return at some point to watch some football (hopefully Fulham FC making a triumphant return to the Premier League!).
