Jimmy's Kitchen is my recent new fond located on Wyndham street that offers British Cuisine. Jimmy's Kitchen is my recent new fond located on Wyndham street that offers British Cuisine. Surprised as I was, I never knew about this place, I first thought it was a Chinese Restaurant just by its name. Yet they do offer Chinese dishes, especially this Chicken a La King is the best Chicken a La King in town!

The restaurant dining hall has a classy ambiance with burgundy floral patterned carpet, rustic stone wall, white tables with suede sofas and red lamps in a dim yellow lighting. The bar looks very fancy, with beige brown floor tiles accented with bright red button tufted leather sofas. I can totally imagine people sipping scotch and smoking cigar there. Service is topnotch here, they have a number tag for you if you check in your umbrella, so no asshole can steal your umbrella secretly (To whoever stole mine at Cha Cha Wan!!!!!) Menu was well explained and several recommendations were given. I think I like it here already!

Waldorf Salad
A beautiful salad to whet the appetite. This salad combination can never go wrong but Jimmy's Kitchen made it better by using fresh salad leaves and celeriac. The celeriac and sweet apple were chopped the same size, made us a bit confused but fun when we were enjoying the salad. The mayonnaise sauce was delicious and was a great match to the salad. My guess is the mayonnaise is made in house, as the taste was rather special.

Braised Oxtail, Served with Tagliatelle
A great flavoured dish with tender oxtails and rich savoury red wine sauce. The oxtails were especially nice with some soft joints adding extra texture to the dish. The red carrots however held no taste of the sauce, it seemed they braised the carrot separately. The tagliatelle was cooked al dente, but there was not enough sauce to compliment it. What a pity!

I would have totally missed the Chicken a La King if the waiter did not specifically point out how amazing their Chicken a La King is. I ordered it out of curiosity and to my surprise, it did live up to its fame.

The Chicken a La King at Jimmy's Kitchen is probably the best that I have ever had in my life! Jimmy's Kitchen's amazing cream sauce won over the local Cha Chaan Tang shit. The sauce was extremely savoury and creamy! The chicken can be more tender but was still good. I could not recall if the butter rice did taste different since I was too busy indulging in the cream sauce LOL. So if you have not tried Jimmy's Kitchen's Chicken a La King, you have NOT yet tried Chicken a La King!

To be completely honest, Jimmy's Kitchen is rather pricey given that I spent almost HKD300 for lunch. It would not be a restaurant that I (currently) afford to go everyday for lunch, but I really like this restaurant from furnishing to service and food! I can't wait to come here again, may be the Sunday Roast next?

Went to Jimmy's Kitchen as part of the restaurant week deal. Before this, i had seen the sign outside a few times but somehow never got round to try it. The decor of the restaurant had an old world charm, and the old photos of various neighborhoods and landmarks in HK added a nice touch. One of the attentive waiters brought me a cushion to place on the back of my chair, on seeing that i was pregnant. Another waiter proceeded to mar the experience a little by coming over to ask one too many times

Another waiter proceeded to mar the experience a little by coming over to ask one too many times what drink i would like to order, even though i had made it clear i was waiting for my dinner companion to arrive before to decide. 

Menu: The amuse bouche was gazpacho, I chose smoked salmon tartare with chive creme fraiche for the starter, pork loin stuffed with apricots, spinach and pine nuts for the main, and passion fruit iced souffle for the dessert from the prix fixe menu. 

The gazpacho was nice and refreshing, the starter of smoked salmon tartare was really good and had me eagerly awaiting my main course. It took a while for the main course to arrive, and it was good but not fantastic. There was no spinach and pine nuts, though i did have cherry tomatoes and mashed potato on my plate instead.

The dessert of passion fruit iced souffle was not really a souffle but more of passion fruit ice cream stuffed into a souffle container and made to look like a souffle. The ice cream was not bad though. 

Overall, this restaurant was a pleasant surprise. It is perfect for popping in for a cosy meal, and i would recommend it to others despite a few misses.

多得一年一度嘅restaurant week, 可以用hkd258試一個3-course dinner. 電視劇成日黎呢度取景,所以一枱一櫈都好熟口面。人不多,很清靜。Waiter安排坐低後,我地都揀左好耐食乜野。佢有問我地想飲乜,但都冇逼我地開酒。因我同朋友的口味實在太夾,所以我地揀埋啲野都一樣。頭盤點了salad with I-don't-know-what-kind-of-fish, 魚幾新鮮,dressing甜甜地,不錯!主菜要了beef steak suet pudding with buttered green peas, 皮很厚好飽滯食唔晒,入面的是一粒粒的牛腩, 很腍,伴碟的青豆很新鮮,用來消滯不錯。甜品是crumble with English custard and raspberries, 略嫌太酸,要用好多custard去中和。在Starter和main course之間侍應經常過來送上麺包,服務很好!熱檸茶亦送上蜜糖,可惜這個menu卻是一般。

主菜要了beef steak suet pudding with buttered green peas, 皮很厚好飽滯食唔晒,入面的是一粒粒的牛腩, 很腍,伴碟的青豆很新鮮,用來消滯不錯。

甜品是crumble with English custard and raspberries, 略嫌太酸,要用好多custard去中和。

在Starter和main course之間侍應經常過來送上麺包,服務很好!熱檸茶亦送上蜜糖,可惜這個menu卻是一般。

I was impressed by the menu which you could find many dishes that rarely see in Hong Kong, like Chicken Kiev, Steak Diane, they all bring back memories when I was a child.Also for those UK cuisine's lovers, you will love this place as well. Also for those UK cuisine's lovers, you will love this place as well. You will find steak & kidney pie, bread and butter pudding, rice budding, and beef Wellington and a lot more.

For Escargot, the favour was pretty bland and arrived a lot faster than expected. I guess they reheat them instead of cooking it fresh. A bit disappointed.

For Steak Diane, the steak is a bit lack of texture and the flavour was just okay, disappointed.

The service is another disappointment too, when my friend was still having starter, they asked if they could serve the main course because they are ready. My friend is a bit shocked when they asked that question.

I was surprised too for a restaurant like this. This is a question should not be asked, it is not professional. I am sure there is room of improvement for time management. In the end, my friend wanted to finish the starter before they served the main course. When the main came, her pork chop was overcooked and dry.

The best bit was dessert, banana rice pudding. The portion was just right and the flavour was spot on and light. It was a good wrap up.

If you want a quiet place and somewhere you won't often go in Central, this is a nice choice. But just don't expect too much on the food even though they have wide range of choices.

One of the most overrated restaurant in Hong Kong !!!

My partner ordered the 3 courses set dinner in $328 under the promotion of BOC. Appetiser was duck foie gras terrine with toast, which taste fine but the veggies along with the toast taste bitter and salty.. The main dish was pan fried cod, pretty sure you could get much better ones from citysuper.

For myself, I've ordered Herring for starter, taste ordinary and texture was soggy.

Steak Diane was the most upsetting dish for the dinner, remind me of those below $100 dinner set in some local "soya sauce" steakhouse. But this restaurant charge $340 for two thin pieces of chewy steak similar to "chinese style beef with tomato onion sauce". Pls don't get me wrong, as i love chinese style too, but normally only cost around $90 for a huge plate, while here you could get 2 slices only for almost price at 4 times! The server claimed it was beef tenderloin but it looks nothing like one.

Finally came with the dessert, at least sth taste comforting. Ginger crumble with vanilla custard, didn't taste surprising but still pretty good.

Coffee at the end was bitter than my mom's chinese herbal medicine and we couldn't take more than one sip even with sugar and cream.

Bill came up to over $900 including discount. Pretty sure there are much better choices out there for this price, eg. Watermark (they make excellent Dry aged filet mignon which cost the same). Even another overpriced but chic restaurant St Betty serve better meal. Respecting it's historical background as a traditional fine cuisine in the old days, it's important to maintain quality ingredients even without fancy settings to keep up with it's high price and stay competitive.

Service is acceptable and the lady serving bread has great smile. I'll give one star for the cushiony sofa and quiet environment.

Impeccable. From the bread lady to the genial manager, you will feel so at home, as they smile and crack jokes with you, all the while suggesting menu items and just making you comfortable.

Ambience: 16/20
The pub feel of this place really feels like a bar in England, and its sheltered nook underground makes you feel like you are in a secret, timeless place. Going back to Hong Kong central after JK is quite startling!

Price: 8/10 The price is well worth it.

There was a set dinner menu as part of Restaurant Week with at least 3 or 4 options for each course.
We opted for:
* Rainbow Trout with honey mustard dressing - fish was fresh and the dressing gave it a bit of kick. Loved the flavour combination
* Mini Cottage Pie - classic dish which was more meat and less potato. I could have had about 5 servings of this!
Main
* Grilled Lamb with potatoes and beetroot - the lamb was perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of fat! I can't remember the last time I was served beetroot with my main meat dish, but it was great with the lamb. It balanced the saltiness of the meat really well.
* Soft Bread Pudding with raspberry jam and meringue - this was cavity-inducing sweetness. The first mouthful was great, but it was difficult to have more bites. It could have done without either the jam or the meringue, but both combined was a bit too much sugar for me.
* Strawberry Custard Tart - simple and classic. The crust was really good and the custard sweet enough without overpowering the fresh strawberries.

Comfort food done well, great atmosphere and excellent service. All round good experience.

今晚行完街,去中環搵食,考慮食日本野定係其他,點知周圍都人山人海。最後揀左Jimmy's Kitchen,因為朋友話都好出名,值得一試。服務員都是上了年紀的,但服務非常的殷勤,又有禮貌,笑容滿面,仲會問客人今晚的食物啱唔啱心水。不錯不錯!!叫了白酒送羊,好夠凍,爽!!!羊的肉好滑,但較肥,食兩件已好膩。肉眼扒不錯,好有牛味!最欣賞這個凱撒沙律,汁醬調校得剛剛好,生菜很新鮮好甜!食物質量及服務都ok的! 哈哈!! 只是貴了一點.......慶祝節日,都值得再來!!! 但要儲下彈藥先!! 呵呵!!

- oxtail soup was wonderful. barley and veg were just at the right proportion. - crabmeat avocado - full of fresh crabmeat and creamy avocado- lamb chop dry curry with rice, accompanied by papadum and various condiments- flavorful.- steak diane - well, wine sauce was great but it robbed the steak's own flavor- chocolate mousse - recommend them to use dark chocolate rather than milk choc.

甫坐下,有位姐姐即捧著一大籃麵包讓我們挑選,有提子包、蒜蓉包、意大利包和法包。我們貪心地每款都要了一片,味道普普通通,倒是搞笑的阿姐非常落力地「推銷」她的麵包,經常走過來問我們夠不夠吃!

此外,也有我之前吃過的醋漬洋蔥;這次的卻是醃漬得時間不夠,有些的色澤還是白白的,且味帶辛辣,連阿姐自己都這樣說了。

這該是很傳統的歐洲菜,似是德國或者北歐會吃的那種;早年曾在英國小住的老爸一聽到 herring 即刻耍手擰頭,因為他怕了那些煙燻了的 herrings (那些叫 kippers),愛吃「鹹濕嘢」的我就頗為受落,因為食味有點像日式的醋鯖魚,不過加埋茴香,對亞洲人來說是重口味了一點。

應是菜名的翻譯上有些偏差,以致老媽看見「凍肉批」就奇怪為何沒有「批皮」。它 (terrine) 其實是雜肉凍,吃下去應該像是豬肉,以多士伴吃,幾甘香的,再加旁邊少少果凍同吃就可以令口味更清新和味道更豐富。

我以為是忌廉湯,出來的卻是清湯,味道也真的相當清淡,喝完也不太有印象。

原條的烤魚上桌,氣勢可真壯觀。魚肉有微微的橙紅色,相當的結實(我以前未吃過這種魚不知原來是不是應該這樣),吃下去有點...泥土味?因此我對這尾魚評價一般,反而配菜那些忌廉炒蘑菇更好吃。

這真是一個正常的英國式批了,就是容器上蓋著酥皮造成的批皮。裡面是鹿肉(我估是吧)、紅蘿蔔和小洋蔥,跟很多的煮汁;

鹿肉吃起來味道不太野味,反而像淡味一些的牛肉,但是肉質是頗為韌的。酥皮最好用來索汁。薯茸伴邊,太厚重了吃不得太多(況且每一道菜都有跟著仔的!)。

密度很高,吃來比較像蛋糕,莓子果醬則淋在面頭;亮點卻是底下那個雲尼拿吉士汁,很是香甜,用來蘸布甸簡直是絕配!為了這個吉士汁,這款甜品我們追加了一客。

又是典型的英國人才會吃的甜品,大黃是一種很酸的植物,偏偏英國人會拿來做甜品,結果當然是酸到盲公都開眼啦。這個形容是誇張了少少,但那個大黃餡又真是頗酸的,而 crumble 也不太覺得有薑味。我想也許不是店家的問題,而是真正的英式食物是這樣的味道吧...

套餐包咖啡或茶,也沒什麼好寫了。

希望不是我的偏見,但總算見識到本地比較正宗的英國式食物,也就了解到為何傳統的英國菜會遭人詬病-說英國「無嘢好食」。說到底都是文化和口味的差異罷了,大家也不妨當見識一下。

又,是晚的服務是 consistently 地好,主動細心兼周到,總店即是總店。

很多年前,朋友來請我來此吃晚飯,記憶猶新。當其時,吃了蘑菇湯,扒餐薯菜。很滿意的一餐。現隔多年,時間/人物/氣氛也不同了。我們一行八人,坐在中間位置,隋圓形的枱子。充滿著聖誕氣氛。老臣子waiter/waitress們,當客人如家人般招待。拿著一籃子餐前麵包,續位客人問,要多少。我選了蕃茄包&提子麥包。雖然不是暖的,但感覺新鮮。有同事要了洋蔥湯,和蘑菇湯。我沒試,也沒聽到comment。紅莓汁火雞。預了沒味兒,只是找火雞,應吓節。雞肉海撒沙律,海撒足夠,所以好吃。Carbonara,超creammy,每人只分到少許,但卻足夠,因為實在太膩了。但我很喜歡,那芝士忌廉汁呢!三文魚鮮蝦扁麵,味道普普通通,海鮮仍保留鮮味。吃至中途,終於有碟,有驚喜。就是Fish & Fries,魚肉很滑,有魚味,不似急凍魚柳。粗薯條即叫即炸,很脆口!燒春雞,算ok,平時吃燒雞,多是乾晒,或肉嚡。這裡的春雞燒得入味。Ribs,竟然被同事吃得出,似是把整件烚熟,後醃味才燒。因為一切開,很骨肉分散,似煲湯後的豬肉。咁整法,不及燒的入味和口感。威靈頓牛扒,牛扒太生。威靈頓式的酥皮包著牛扒,夾在中間,有一朕杰的肉醬,很

捧著麵包籃的姐姐笑著迎上,問我們要哪幾種麵包-有麥麵包,提子番茄甜包,蒜蓉飽,法飽.麵包偏冷和乾身,是因為姐姐捧著它滿場飛一整晚吧.塗上薄薄的一層牛油,也滿惹味的.吃一次不夠,姐姐會非常熱情的來給你添吃,非常親切.

先來Amuse Bouche,平時都是小小的一份,這晚卻送上一整隻美國生蠔,肥美新鮮,海水味不重,偏淡口.上面的鱘魚子醬味道也是淡,真的當是’開胃’小吃就好,認真地當生蠔吃會有點失望.

頭盤,從四款中選擇了無花果配意式火腿併羊奶芝士撻.烤過的無花果變得軟綿綿,賣相有點’撻’,中間釀著濃郁酥香的羊奶芝士,咸鮮更能帶出其鮮甜,最適合重口味的我.風乾火腿只是一味煙膩,味道卻淡得很;火箭菜沾點陳醋去除草腥味,入口爽脆甜美.下面的芝士撻,用上的曲奇皮夠酥脆,和幼滑的芝士餡很夾,好吃.

湯,點選了西蘭花藍芝士忌廉湯,顏色帶點曖昧的黃綠色,散發朕朕誘人的芝士酥香.入口濃杰的湯帶藍芝士獨特的咸味,清新的西蘭花碎平衡了濃郁的芝士酥,一旁的小小sage scone鬆脆,配合芝士濃湯正好,喝得令人渾身上下都溫暖起來.

接下來的就是主菜.這晚有四款選擇,有煎鱸魚柳,烤火雞併火腿,燒肉眼扒和芝士龍蝦.不喜歡波士頓龍蝦,還是點最安全的燒肉眼好了. 肉眼扒份量十足,顏色是剛好的粉紅色,上面閃爍的血汁看得我們幾個吸血鬼食指大動!肉質軟綿,肥瘦有致,牛肉味頗濃郁,纖維也算幼細,而外表也燒得焦黑黑的挺香脆.沾些少味道像磨菇多於牛骨髓的肉汁和芥末(雖然只得一種辣英國芥末),更加惹味.伴碟的有烤薯仔,蘿蔔和番薯,全都粉綿好吃;而少不了的yorkshire pudding,則是意外的酥脆香口,不油膩也沒油臆味,不用沾甚麼肉汁肉末已經非常滿足.這份烤牛肉的確非常有水準,但依然不夠在文華快船廊吃過的那一片烤肉眼,那般軟滑無渣卻又肉味十足,居然令人懷念至今,哈哈.

最後的應該是甜品吧,但可能這晚廚房太忙碌,所以先上了咖啡,茶和mince pie.呷口熱茶解滯,再咬口細細的果乾批,批皮上灑著點點脆脆的糖粒,裡面煮過的果漬煙韌又滿有嚼感,幸好只是小小一個,否則就太膩了.

呷著茶,三款甜品緩緩送上.最奪目的一定是那小小的聖誕布甸,黑黑的;侍應快速點燃白蘭地然後淋上布甸,藍色的火焰從器皿直瀉而下,耀眼又漂亮.霎眼嬌後的是四散的酒香,滲進不甚漂亮的果漬布甸,酒香令重身的它更濕潤和輕怡,每一小口都散發著醉人的香氣,份量也不會很大,沒有了吃得令人滯飽的感覺,味道也很好呢.

朱古力核桃批配著一小球香橙雪芭,不知怎的有點突兀的感覺..後者太冰感了,味道也很人工的酸咪咪.反而那樣子踏實的朱古力批,雖然朱古力餡是雪得過硬了點,但可可味也相對濃郁得很,像是把雪成硬塊的可可醬放入口,加上頂層脆口的核桃和下面酥脆的酥皮,口感豐富得很,是久違的踏實的甜美味道,好吃.

最後的是蜜糖semi-freddo配草莓汁,賣相頗吸引,但味道卻頗朦糊-芭菲感覺像是雲尼拿味,草莓汁甜得像焦糖汁,和餐牌上的一點不同,當是另一回事吃好了.芭菲質地不太’冰’,滿有幼細氣泡所以不會很硬和實,香草味也濃郁,點著香甜的焦糖汁,剎是好吃,也不會太膩甜,為這寒涼的晚上畫上冰凍但甜美的結局.

這晚吃到的賣相可能一點不花巧,用料也沒甚特別,但味道都相當實在,最合愛傳統食物的家人.個人頗喜歡這晚的餐單,更難得是連挑剔的家人也吃得滿意-平時的我們,很容易會因為食物口味不同而吵起來呢.

這晚除了聖誕大餐外,餐廳也安排了很久未見過的聖誕老人來派糖果.想起來,雖然小時候家人最愛帶我到不同商場找聖誕老人拍照,最近幾年也沒在商場見過這紅色的龐大身型了,見到的往往只有聖誕裝飾.這晚碰上了久違的Mr.Santa,雖已沒了曾經的童真,不會再一看見他就立即興奮起來,但心中也是高興的-原因,不是因為那天是聖誕節,不是因吃的是聖誕大餐,而是因為他令我回想小時候過的聖誕節,和現在一樣,大家可以放下生活的煩惱,輕鬆的共渡這個晚上.我想,這才是節日的真正意義吧.

正是如此,這晚,已經是最好的,聖誕大餐.

爸爸生日,哥哥提議到Jimmy's Kitchen.那晚人不多,一家人靜靜地自成一各。爸爸可以不吃,但啤酒卻不能沒有。經waiter提議後就叫了Black Sheep Ale, 爸爸極喜歡。這支來自英格蘭約克郡的啤酒原來來頭不少,得到2010 Gold star 'Great Taste Awards' 和2009 Gold Award – International Beer Challenge等,後來我在中環太子大厦的Oliver's找到買給爸爸,對啤酒有興趣的朋友不防一試。 開頭例牌的麵包與餐湯沒有特別。爸爸叫了乾咖哩羊,他最喜歡吃咖哩,也喜歡自己煮,他沒有表示不滿,看來是OK的。隨咖哩附上的中式全盒內有印度薄片及佐料,有杏甫果醬、芝士粉、花生、提子乾等;看來大堆頭,我們也分了些吃。味道不錯。我就叫了基輔雞卷,最喜歡蒜茸牛油汁流到薯蓉溝埋食,yummy!麵包布甸。新鮮焗出來,拌以吉士汁,吃起來濕潤,有蛋香。我覺得價錢偏貴,這個價錢就可以找到更好吃的食品,但偶然來懷懷舊也是不錯的。幸好呢餐哥哥比錢。

開頭例牌的麵包與餐湯沒有特別。
爸爸叫了乾咖哩羊,他最喜歡吃咖哩,也喜歡自己煮,他沒有表示不滿,看來是OK的。
隨咖哩附上的中式全盒內有印度薄片及佐料,有杏甫果醬、芝士粉、花生、提子乾等;
看來大堆頭,我們也分了些吃。味道不錯。

今天要到中環覆診,看到這老餐廳的招牌,心裡也有一把聲音說,去吧,慶祝轉新工吃好一點吧,這驅使了我進入了這有八十多年的餐廳。(在下平常午餐也只是快餐,所以今天也真吃太好了)走過那幽暗的門口,就進了餐廳的酒吧部分,陰暗的燈光再如上那優美的音樂,企鵝在下的心情一整個就是好。一位穿著西裝的英籍侍者以超流利的英語向在下問安,還好在下的應對還算得體。坐下後就是選擇麵包的時候,新鮮的手製麵包就是香,只是四款麵包企鵝只對香草麵包有興趣,那就先來兩塊充一下頭盤。選了個三道菜的午餐,湯選擇了鮮帶子周打湯,香濃的湯再加上洋蔥,真是層次豐富,喝一口已經感到滿足,再咬一口那鮮帶子,那一口的清甜真是非筆墨所能形容。主菜則選了烤豬小排,香脆的豬小排上包了煙肉,肉汁香味也不錯。只是意粉略爲過頭,失去了應有的彈牙感覺。甜品是意大利芝士蛋糕,不過不失,只是不是新鮮做的令在下略有微言。因為碟子上都結了水珠。咖啡的熱度和香味一向也是企鵝去品評餐廳的參數之一,沒有可扣分的部分。

香濃的湯再加上洋蔥,
真是層次豐富,
喝一口已經感到滿足,
再咬一口那鮮帶子,
那一口的清甜真是非筆墨所能形容。

主菜則選了烤豬小排,
香脆的豬小排上包了煙肉,
肉汁香味也不錯。
只是意粉略爲過頭,
失去了應有的彈牙感覺。

甜品是意大利芝士蛋糕,
不過不失,
只是不是新鮮做的令在下略有微言。
因為碟子上都結了水珠。

咖啡的熱度和香味一向也是企鵝去品評餐廳的參數之一,
沒有可扣分的部分。
