Today is my birthday and being a foodie and a seafood addict, my boyfriend decided to find a nice seafood restaurant for my birthday tonight. He searched high and low and read some incredibly good reviews of Dot Cod, so he decided to book a table. Big mistake!


Walking into the restaurant, there was a big blue tank filled with beautiful fish but then inside, everything looked dated. It was like a modern style English pub/ restaurant. The whole place is divided into two sections: On the left was the dinning area and on the right was the bar area, where drunken Englishmen shouted about their 'expensive' Marks and Spencers' clothing with their buddies.

While we were looking at the menu, the male staff looked confused as if they didn't know what they were doing; On the other hand, the female staff were very polite and professional. I asked what the special fish of the day was, one of the male staff mumbled some names, I caught only two of them- Red perch and Johndory. With no introduction or recommendation, I had to go with pan fried seabass as seabass is one of my favorite fish.

We ordered terrine of mullet and salmon and Cream soup of St Jacques' Scallop and caviar for our appertizers; Pan fried seabass and Fish pie as main courses.

While we were waiting, the waiter brought in some bread with three dips. If the chefs there make their own bread, they put too much baking soda. That was all I could taste.

Soup and terrine came in. Immediately I had a piece of plastic in my mouth from the terrine. Both the soup and terrine were underseasoned. There was no salt. The cream soup was too watery. The terrine was bland and there were more pieces of plastic found.

Onto the main courses, my seabass was nicely cooked. However, there was no salt or sauce. It was bland and boring. For a HKD 260 dish, I would expect some flair in my food. My boyfriend ordered the fish pie with scallops, crab meat, prawns and fish. Wait a minute, there were no scallops, crab meat or fish in the pie! They filled the pie with mashed potatoes, tinned mushrooms and salmon and two sad tiny little prawns. All I could see was salmon. So why do they bother with the scallops or crab on the menu? Maybe they should advertise it as ' Crap Pie' or 'Crap Salmon Pie'! The worst of all was the tinned mushrooms. Please , where is the quality control? How dare they charge HKD 250 and serve tinned mushrooms? The dish came with some cabbage as a side. The cabbage smelled and tasted off. Rotten. I guess if they can't afford fresh mushrooms, they can't afford fresh cabbage either.

Overhearing the table right next to us, a waiter was introducing the fish of the day. This time, he said 'Red perch, hallibut, red snapper'. And he was also clearly explaining how each fish was supposed to be cooked, and which one he would recommend. Shouldn't they tell all staff the information instead of one single waiter in the entire restaurant?

I ordered a ginger creme brulee to finish off my meal. It was ok. But the presentation was terrible. Why do you need twenty chips to cover the beautifully camerelized sugar? I had to take all of them away before I could go anywhere near the creme brulee. I really don't get what the 'CHEF' was trying to do. I left the restaurant feeling unsatisfied and confused. The bill added up to HKD 1300. You can go to a much better restaurant paying that kind of price.And I am more than happy to pay that at Isola or Le Mer.

If Dot Cod doesn't care about the quality of the food and training the waiting staff, they should not dare to charge people fine dining price. This place is no fine dining. If you are looking for a romantic hang out providing great food quality, this is not the place for you.

同同事們黎到呢度 Happy Hour,我自己要了 Strawberry Daiquiri smile

Service 很 attentive,花生亦很美味,試了它的 chicken wings,佢切了一半上,變得唔似雞翼個樣 though.....不過點完個 sauce 都覺得係幾好的吊酒小食。

不知不覺坐到 9 點。

環境真的挺好,因為人不多,不擠。

感謝大佬請我地飲野。lol

數個星期二前的晚上, 因有些事要過中環一趟, 本來相約好的九龍友難得肯遷就過來這頭, 就決定在這歡樂時光

一進鋪便被那放在門前的一缸熱帶魚所吸引, 7時多來到竟出乎意料的爆滿, 幸好有訂位子, 如不真是插針也插不入, 客人中佔了8成以上外國人, 整夜耳邊都充斥著鬼聲鬼氣

坐下朋友要了她的好朋友"嘉仕佰", 而本人就要了杯紅酒, 一路慢慢細嚐, 再一邊看看有什麼好來送送酒, 之後分別要了三款小吃, 跟小食的分別有雞醬, 甜豉酒和沙律醬作醬汁

炸雞翼 - 三款小食用上一大碟的奉上, 單看份量可不少. 雞翼細心的挑起了一邊骨, 吃起來方便之餘, 也可大啖大啖肉的撕下很是豪氣, 雞肉炸得香口而不油膩, 簡單的點上雞醬已可提升食味

素菜春卷 - 春卷皮略嫌厚了點, 但內裡素菜卻仍帶爽, 點些沙律醬傻氣一點自覺可消點熱氣

炸龍脷魚柳 - 雖只是小食一道, 但也能做到皮薄肉滑, 最怕那些店子炸醬厚厚的, 而在這夜加上沙律醬未免有點兒死板, 所以在三樣醬汁左點右試之下, 總結還是覺得甜豉油最合意

炸雲吞 - 望賣相和一般街吃到的沒什麼分別, 但能在這兒出現一定是有些玄機的, 在細問之下, 原來答案就是在餡料上用了鱈魚柳, 成本較一般的為高, 咬下雲吞皮香脆, 沒從前吃到一般的皂水味, 鱈魚肉也嫩滑非常, 再點上甜豉酒, 已可輕易的幹掉整碟

同打魚湯 - 看賣相很是濃郁, 朋友說很不錯

雖只是叫上幾款小吃, 但可能份量也不少, 所以最後也有吃淨, 侍應細心的用盒子包上, 待第二天吃著還是很滋味. 還有的是侍應們雖忙得不可開交, 但一舉手也很快的落單或其他幫忙, 服務上是稱職有餘

星期三晚happy hour 朋友有折扣,帶了我同另一個朋友去食生蠔,這夜的special 只有 Coffin Bay,可能已經唔係最好嘅季節,每隻都好細隻但係就夠鹹。襯蠔嘅sauce 有4款,有芒果,蒜粒,蕃茄同cocktail sauce。可能因為細細隻,食極都唔夠喉咁,我哋前後食了 3打半。之後再食了一客薯條,雞翼同埋芝士吐司。呢3樣都好好味,夠鹹。

雞翼只得一條骨,雞肉被翻過嚟後才炸。好特別。
薯條要趁熱食, 不過都算唔錯, 薯條肉唔算好硬或好粉,夠脆。
芝士吐司的吐司好脆,芝士好有芝士味,一啖咬落去口感同味道都好好。

另外house white, house red 買一送一,我哋飲了4 set (即前後8杯)。唔覺得隻白酒好襯隻蠔,有點酸,紅酒反而比較好飲,不過我都係唔記得問呢個house wine 係邊到,乜嘢酒.

個別服務員的服務態度不一。不過唔算係服務好好好嗰種,同呢度嘅格調有些小出入。

3個人,8杯 house wine, 42隻蠔,3客小食,約共$960.
是次消費: 每人約HKD320 (晚餐)

跟老細去dot cod食飯, 高級地方, 不是跟老細去, 絕想不到prince bldg basement有一間seafood restaurant.

入到去盡是外國人, 那應該是當然的, 地方有點迫, 枱與枱中間也不是太多位

叫了一個king prawn clam flat意粉, carrot juice, 沒有叫appetizer, 有一籃bread已經供應

很impressive的clam, 很大隻呀~每粒肉真係好好味, 好像只有外國地方才找到的大size 蜆肉, 意粉也不錯, 可能咸了點點吧

食物不錯, 可是要250蚊一個spaghetti, 還是不適合我吧

跟自己喜歡的人, 朋友, 去食飯, 吃什麼也應該好吃

Dinner with colleagues, one of them were late so the other 4 of us had a dozen of oyster first. We were warned that the oysters were not fat and yes they turned out that way. The taste was not particularly strong but fair I suppose given it cost $10 each only on Wednesday. We were early so we had the buy 1 get 1 free (beer, draught, red or white wine) we had white.

Deco was decent but it was very noisy, something to do with the very low deck I suspect and the sound were trapped at the basement. Waiters were not exactly attentive and can be slightly pushy sometimes.

Main dish ordered (some with pictures):
Simply Cod (looks like Fish and Chips)
Cod Florentine
Fish Cakes
8oz Angus Beef
Lamb Chop
Taste, presentation, portion, all nice. Afterall, a restaurants survive with its quality of food.

We had 30% off with a friend’s Cricket Club card, so it rounds up to around $200+ each. Nice bargain.

今年生日非常忙碌,H先生同我都要去到8:00先走人,佢帶左我o黎呢度,話重溫一下英國風情,哈哈,有心有心!

Dot Cod確實有少少traditional既英倫feel,同意之前網友所講,casual and modern,唔好expect好elegant o個隻feel。不過係有少少嘈吵,人多好應聲,可能Friday night係多o的gossip o野講o既。但整體感覺舒服,waiter態度良好,我o地叫o左半打蠔(點少得呢?哈!),3隻Bald Eagle 3隻Irish Rock,蠔唔係今次o既主打,預期之內o既普普通通啦,用o黎點綴吓o者,嘻嘻!之後order o左個薰魚salad (唔記得o左係咩魚添:p)做starter,main course就叫o左三文魚扒同King Pawn Pasta,其實呢度o既魚整得幾有水準,好滑溜,King Pawn Pasta少少spicy,份量亦足夠,最尾一個香蕉拖肥蛋糕,出乎意料地唔係太甜但有texture,cool!一整枝Chablis house white好快飲完,yeah!

最驚喜係H先生額外送上既Jenny's Bakery,今朝累我忍唔倒口食o左半罐當早餐,哈哈!

講得出o黎o既生日願望係戒掉紅肉!

English and not too formal. A bit noisy in early evening during happy hour.

The oyster is fresh and not the usual. The food is average and the menu has traditional English desserts which is so rare these days.

Following a fun day out at Ocean Park, we went to Dot Cod to enjoy a lovely meal!

The bread basket starts off the evening and l enjoyed the bread stick and the thin cracker, they go well with the tasty green paste! Oysters are next and we picked the Kusshi, Penn Cove and Coffin Bay. The Coffin Bay was the best of the three and its minerality really stands out!

Since Dot Cod don't charge corkage on Monday and Tuesday, I brought along the Chateau De Fesles Chenin Sec Anjou 2004 and Peller Estates Late Harvest Vidal 1997 for our dinner. It's my first time to try this Chenin Blanc, it's interesting but I expect more acidity from it, not the best match with the oysters and the fish but it went well with them.

For main course, the pan fried Barramundi was cooked to perfection, fish is the signature of the house and I wasn't disappointed! Lamb Chops were fine too but I prefer more lamb taste from it! tongue

For Dessert, I couldn't resist ordering the Bread & Butter Pudding, let's see if it could remind me of the good old UK! But to my disappointment, it didn't do very well, the toast on top was not dry enough, it's a bit soggy and same for the pudding at the bottom. The custard tastes fine but I prefer a sweeter taste, oh well, it's hard to find the good old taste I guess! The late harvest Vidal did do us fine, the honey and nutty flavour was balanced by good acidity, we really enjoyed it and finished the whole 200ml quite quickly, haha!

And finally 2 Chocolates from the House, Mint and Dark Chocolates! Sweet! ^____^

This is a classy sophsicated restaurant with quality food. Service is good and makes you feel like you are dining in London.
Fish & Chips, Yorkshire pie... all are classic Brit specialties.
One must also try their coffee.. not too strong but the aroma lingers and it tastes so smooth....

我覺得這裡最好的是環境及服務. 食物貴得來不是真的很好味, 但也絶不能説是差.

這店是以海鮮食物為主. 但要吃海鮮的話, 我個人喜好會選擇中式菜館.

要讚的是他們的甜品. 那個bread and butter pudding 做的十分好吃! 不怕肥的食家們不妨一試. 做的跟我吃過傳統的一樣好味道! 另外他們的chocolate cake 也不錯, 很有睇頭, 味道也稱心. Applie pie 便免了, 雖然很大件但蘋果不多且很粉.

總括來説, 如果想跟三五知己去個服務好, 環境好, 可以舒服地談話的地方, 又不介意價錢比起吃的不太相稱的話, 這裡不失是個好地方.

Visited this restaurant few months ago on a business occasion. All 6 of us have a good time there coz the food is good! Don't expect that to be a place for fine dining coz the bar area is quite noisy. Yet, the food is good, got a variety of fresh oyster (nice) and the seafood is good too! I tried the very traditional Fish and Chips (strange they don't serve it with malt vinegar...) Other fish dishes are nice but not outstanding. For desserts, we all have souffle and fresh strawberries... good la!

I have seen many comments here about free coffee. Please, if you want free coffee, McDonald's is your place. Please do not expect a proper restaurant to do what fast food shop chains do. If you are surprised by what a restaurant does, all I can say is you have not been to a proper restaurant often enough, i.e. you have yourself to blame.
