Like their annual $1 chicken specials...you just order $1 for one chicken dish, bowl of rice and you're good to go. The thing is all the deals are in Chinese. But they are also on photographed cards at the front of the restaurants and on the tables so you can always ask and someone will explain. Or get someone higher up to.

Wandering around North Point, we saw a big poster of a Chinese restaurant of Mona Lisa hugging a BBQ roast duck and I said to boyfriend, hey...it's dinner time! What should we eat? Let's find the place with the Mona Lisa holding the duck. Of course, we didn't find it but came upon Tao Heung in the more residential area of North Point. Saw a few good deals after 9 pm, like chicken hot pot for $48 plus 6 cans of soda pop and or beer to celebrate the World Cup. Or late night hot pot. Or selected Chinese dishes $68 and less. Since it was almost 9, we went in.

We ordered two Chinese dishes. One fish dish for $68 and one sweet and sour shrimp for $48. We added $15 for Shanghai style rice cakes. There was an all you can drink and Chinese dessert table for $9 per person so we added that too as the dessert alone cost $10.

Garoupa with shallots and garlic in a hot stone pot smelled fantastic. It was hot. The fish just done. The shallots and garlic were sweet and soft.

Deep fried shrimp in sweet and sour sauce tasted like sweet and sour pork but with shrimp. I like sweet and sour pork. I liked this. I also love canned peaches so this whole dish worked for me. Batter around the shrimp seemed huge, but it wasn't thick. It was rather thin and just ballooned outwards.

Shanghai rice cakes were nice and soft. Not too oily like it usually is. Tasted not too salty.

The all you can drink and dessert table had various soda on tap along with soybean milk, sour plum drink and herbal tea. There was some thick coconut smoothie. I only had the soyamilk which was just really sweet but for $9 all you can glug, you can't complain. Boyfriend had the coconut smoothie and it was so thick, he had a hard time sipping it with his straw. It didn't thin out throughout the night. But he said it was so intensely coconut in flavor and icy goodness, this rocked his world.

Dessert from the $9 table consists of black sesame soup, almond tea, azuki bean soup and water chestnut soup. I only had black sesame and almond tea which were both fairly decent. Boyfriend had those and water chestnut which he wasn't fond of as he said it was over powdered by lemon.

All in all we rolled out pretty full. All under $200. Don't expect fine Chinese dining. No fancy Lee Garden here. Expect decent neighborhood Chinese at decent prices. Places where people bring their families, eat and go back home to watch TVB.

淺嚐完兩款燉湯,我哋也分辨不出它們有何不同 - 只知萬壽果燉螺頭(推廣) $28比姬松茸燉雞(推廣) $28多了陣木瓜味而矣﹗
用匙翻開湯料一看,只有一小塊螺頭和微量的姬松茸,兩款燉湯都有不少雞件,但雞味就淡而不覺,毫無雞湯的鮮甜油潤之感。

爽脆千層峰 $28其實是鹵水豬耳,名副其實,口感極為爽脆﹗
據聞,千層峰要做得好,要先讓滷水香味完全滲入每塊豬耳片中,再把滷水豬耳擠壓,變成啫喱狀,然後再切成薄片狀,極花功夫。稻香的千層峰口感扎實,入口煙韌爽口且QQ帶脆,且有陣陣鹵水香,口感味道均屬上乘之作也。若配以浙醋同吃,味道必會更佳。

原以為大澳肉片蒸豆腐 $58會有蝦膏味兒,誰知,只是我哋一廂情願也,是有豉油味道也。
不過,這道菜味道卻蠻不錯的,誠意推介。瘦肉片沾有一薄層生粉,入口嫩滑無比,調味也恰到好處,帶有豉油的鮮味,越吃越上癮﹗
豆腐也是嫩滑非常,僅以豉油調味,已成一道美味佳餚也。

花膠珍菌浸時蔬 $78是清新健康解膩之選。同事貪其有花膠才點,若是由小妹拍板,寧要較便宜的清炒時蔬算了。
花膠?不過是難以咬碎、無甚口感可言的硬膠罷了。珍菌也是乾硬無味,而花牙力咀嚼之物。幸白菜仔夠鮮嫩,且無渣。

總括來說,這一餐十分經濟實惠,埋單$540,平均每人只需$90,環境舒服,份量足夠,以這個價錢來說是很好的。

又一個新月份, 早晨孖寶d點心又轉o左今次叫左梅菜雞粒飯, 鳳爪排骨飯,時菜牛肉球,銀絲滑雞卷首先講下鳳爪排骨飯,(吃了一半才想起要影相)叫呢個飯要 +$1,d排骨夠林夠入味, 飯軟硬適中有飯香, 鳳爪也好吃,梅菜雞粒飯 d飯比鳳爪排骨飯硬,可能今次煮的時候放少了水,d料比鳳爪排骨飯多至於時菜牛肉球,有些菜放於牛肉球底,分量比別間的細一些,但味道同別間差不多也可以一試最後係銀絲滑雞卷,外用腐皮包著,內有雲耳雞肉芹菜同粉絲,感覺爽口好吃,但味道較以上食物清淡,但也值得一試(建議吃了這個才吃其他味道較濃的食物)

我們前後吃了三隻一蚊雞, 第二隻吃了一點之後就發現有點像瘀了的跡象, 告知樓面阿姐後, 我們還是另點一隻 (當然如果不是 $1 隻的話我們肯定要要求退貨了)。

由於我後來因事先行離開, 等不及吃家人後來點的蝦乾粉絲節瓜煲 ($48), 據家人匯報, 那道菜很鹹, 不吃也沒有損失。

至於幾天之後, 又再去了吃多次一蚊雞, 那是後話了。
