Because this place is quite hidden (at the end of the lane) so there was not much of a wait to get seats. The waiters were friendly and casual, they greeted customers well and were helpful. Food gets ordered at the cashier and the girl at the cashier knew the menu well enough to make recommendations and suggestions for making combos (to save you $). Nice!

They have funky burger ingredients like kimchi, bak choi... So both times I ordered "vintage" (which is more "normal"), added $15 for an extra piece of SPAM ham which was proven to be a good decision! The beef was juicy and tender, the cheese melted just right, saltiness was just right, and it doesn't give you the "熱氣" after-taste that most burgers have. The problem with adding SPAM was only that the wrapping paper was a bit too small for the thickness and got messy, but taste-wise everything was great! I also ordered Beet Fries, it comes with mayo with cajun, the first time the fries was perfect, very soft, sweet and juicy in the centre and crispy outside!! The second time the fries was slightly too dry because the cut was too small and it got slightly burnt.

The only thing I would complain about is the drinks. A can of regular coke costs $25 (!!) without combo, while a can of Arizona Green Tea costs $40 (!!). So probably you will be better off not drinking there if your favourite burger is not the "combo burger of the day" (each day only 2 burger/wrap can be part of a combo).

I'll definitely be a regular for weekday lunch here but have to sort out the drinks part to lower my lunch expense... LOL.

Lemy Lemonade ($45). This was pretty good lemonade and had a cute design as the label. I had never seen this brand before.

Kung Fu Fish Taco ($88). Fish taco was horrible. Seriously. Horrible. The menu said pan seared white fish, curry sesame dressing, sambol, avocado, orange and mango. What we got was some mushy fish that tasted and looked like it was canned tuna. The dressing was nonexistent making the entire thing bland. Quite possibly the worst tacos I've ever had in Hong Kong. And I've had some pretty nasty ones.

The meat was medium rare but everything just fell apart. I'm all for grease but this was a greasy mess. The whole bun was soaked in oil and everything just felt like one sloppy grease pit. What was more appalling was the meat was underseasoned.

The food was terrible and grossly over priced for the quality we got. Portions were also small. It is no wonder it was empty on a Saturday night. Won't be back.

Overall Verdict: Overpriced, underwhelming food. A friend and I ordered 3 things: the Lazyhunter tacos, Char Siu tacos, and of course, the beetroot fries given our recent obsession with them.  After ordering at the counter, we were served at our table in a timely manner but were left greatly disappointed by what lay in front of us.  My friend had the LazyHunter and for $98, it came with 2 small tacos filled with edamame, okra, and some fried tofu. The Char Siu tacos were not much better. For $88, there were 2 tacos, with 5 slices each of char siu, sprinkles of green onion, and ginger "salsa" which is actually less than a sprinkle of the ginger sauce that Chinese restaurants provide for ginger chicken. I didn't eat the corn tortilla because it was dripping in oil. I could have gotten more char siu and better quality at a local joint.

Beetroot fries may have been the highlight of the meal, if I had to choose a highlight. It was ok, but not as crispy as I have had at other locations.

A promising concept, but falls a little short...

We were pretty excited about going to Boomshack and really wanted it to be good.  Unfortunately, I was not.

The service was very friendly and the girls who took our order and served us, were very nice and accommodating.  The food, however, did not live up to the service.

We ordered some beet fries, a chicken waffle and sme char siu tacos.

The good - the fries.  These were good.  Crispy and sweet, they hit the spot.  The pathetic thimble of sauce that they came with was utterly insufficient though.

The bad - the chicken waffle.  In the States, fried chicken is served alongside the waffle.  Here they sandwich the chicken between two small waffles and glue them with cheese.  The result - soggy fried chicken.  It tasted like cheap shop bought chicken and the whole thing was a mess.  Again, insuffient sauce.

The ugly - the tacos.  And they were really bad.  I have to say, that these were one of the worst things I have put in my mouth for a really long time.  This is one of those cases of an interesting idea becoming a poorly executed nightmare.  The meat was nasty and the tough lean meat was held together with luke-warm fat and sinew.  Yuck.  Also, it was swimming in grease.  We actually poured out oil from the tacos.  They were disgusting.

The real kicker is that this place is pretty expensive.  For quite small portions of badly cooked food, we paid over the odds.

The restaurant is inspired by fast food trucks in the US and it serves burgers, tacos and fries, some with an Asian twist. You will see their kitchen behind the food truck decor. If you are nosy like me, you can peep inside to see their chefs busily working inside. This place had a lively ambience, probably due to the music, the decor and the young customers enjoying their meals. The cashier and the server were quite unenthusiastic though. I was just there for the fast food, so the (lack of) service didn't bother me, just like you wouldn't expect service at Mc D.

We sat at the 'normal' seats near the brick wall, instead of the high chairs at the centre. Our food was brought over by the server within 10 minutes. Their portions might looked pretty small, but it was denitely enough to fill the stomaches of two women with a much larger appetite than an average Hong Kong lady. We both picked something from the Boom Burger menu, rather than tacos.

I had the Holy Kimchi (HKD$88) and loved it. The corned beef and kimchi pairing was interesting. The beef was succulent and the kimchi was flavourful (not spicy). Cheddar cheese and their 'baconaise' (bacon + mayo?) provided the grease that held the burger together wonderfully. All their bugers were served in potato buns. I assume it was made with potato powder and flour, with texture similar to a focaccia, and it has more air pockets than the usual flour bun, which means it can hold more sauce and juice from the meat! It was a very nice combination.

My friend had the King Kong (HKD$ 98) which had a beef patty and a spam patty, along with bok choy, provolone and XO sauce mayo. You can smell the bok choy when you opened the box that held the burger. The burger was bursting with juice, and my friend didn't appreciate it as it made a whole mess and her precious engagement ring was soaked in the grubby grease (that was a hilarious scene when she panicked ...). The XO sauce was barely detectable and there were simply too much meat and too little bun. I guess the King Kong would be something for the macho macho man.

We shared a portion of beet fries (HKD$58). My friends was not a fan of beets because she didn't like the sourness (I guess she had pickled beets), but now she was a converter! Fresh (not pickled) beets was lightly dipped into the batter before being fried. When you bit into it, there was a slight crunch followed by sweet beet juice oozing out. The fries was served with mayo, I didn't think it needed any condiment though. We loved the beet fries.

And they have waffle chicken too! Which my friend tried, though it's small for men's portions.
Dinner, you can make a set with your own side and a drink. Price similar to something like Calimex, but definitely a different genre, if I can say that. If Calimex is compared to a typical equivalent of Chipotle in the U.S., I'd say Boomshack is a little more alternative, fitting in with the local neighbourhood, twisting the ingredients and sauces a little but not too much that it's a weird fusion I can't put my finger on.
Like the name of the fish taco: Kung Fu fish. It has additional mango and orange pieces to add zest to the taco. Instead of guac, actual avocado, which meant the taco didn't get all mushy and wet over time (not that it takes long to eat it, but you know how messy tacos can get sometimes).
Note dinner time is pretty quiet (we were there from 7-9ish). I'm guessing it's more popular for the after-drinks crowd.
But basically I didn't go with enough people to try all the menu items! And I had training after, so couldn't indulge in dessert. Going back though, for sure!

the burger..i have to say it is a bit disappointing, the beef patty isn't beefy, and cheese isn't cheesey really, it just doesn't strike you as "yum", it's a bite of disappointment..

didn't take the picture of the chicken & waffle, the chicken is nicely deep fried, luckily, but I don't fancy eating sweet waffle with salty chicken, for me they doesn't seem to go together
but nonetheless they tastes fine separately, the waffle is soft and sweet, with a nice scent of egg, and the chicken is moist and tender

deep fried beetroot is good too, the sweetness of the beetroot is retained, with a nice crisp at the outside, and a sense of healthiness, and I really like the colour of beetroot, absolutely likable

the banana nutella waffle is really..ordinary, can be a lot better
the waffle is the soft kind, i prefer crispy ones but, it's fine this way
but the amount of nutella is too little to enhance or elevate this desert, as for the banana, they weren't at the best time to eat i guess, a bit too raw for the taste of banana to be strong to be delectable

didn't take picture of the ice cream taco either, and it wasn't as good as i have anticipated, it tastes like ordinary nestle ice cream cone, the vanilla ice cream tasted artificial, the taco was crispy but just not as good as i thought

overall, we were quite disappointed, may not visit again

As a man always on the hunt for a great burger I thought I had found mysef a great burger spot just around the corner from my office -- great location, fun/cool decoration, innovative burgers.

Unfortunately this was not the case, and I would 100% rather eat at Mcdonalds than eating here again.

Why am I hating on this place? This is why:
Expensive: Having researched the place on Open Rice I had reason to believe that this was not an overpriced restaurant, as the price shown was 'Below $50'. This was a complete ripoff (false advertising anyone?) as I paid HKD 113 for a burger and a canned drink. This price obviously did not turn me away, as a high quality burger is worth its weight in gold, which brings us to...
Size: My Kimchi burger, if you're even allowed to call it that, was tiny -- the burger was smaller than my fist which is far from the massive burgers you see in the pictures. I actually had to get another meal after finishing lunch, which made todays lunch even more disappointing. Well sometimes you have to judge food by quality over quantity, which brings us to...

Quality: Even though the size of the burger was a complete letdown I was still excited to finish the burger and try the (seemingly) delicious Kimchi/Burger combination. Unfortunately there was no real kimchi taste, which is a letdown because that was the main reason I tried the damn burger in the first place. Moreover, there was no beef patty on my burger (maybe my mistake in assuming that there would be?) which essentially means that I paid ~100 dollars for a 'Tiny Kimchi Sandwich' -- this name would give customers a better understanding of what they are paying for.
At least the staff was friendly. And the interior decoration was cool -- if you're American or some sort of hipster that is.

Vintage($78):包 同 肉 都係四方形 。 Ice Cream T

The chicken waffle was basically a waffle with a piece of fried chicken, bacon and sauce on top.
There are two choices of sauce: sausage gravy or three cheese and ranch.
I made the mistake of ordering the gravy because American gravy is creamy and totally different to British gravy.
Other than that, the chicken and bacon was crispy and delicious and the waffle was not too sweet.

As well as meat, I also love vegetarian options like this one because it has guacamole and okra.
It was a moist taco because okra has some natrual occuring slime which you either hate or love!!
I really enjoyed the crunch and the taste of guacamole paired with a block of soft tofu in the middle.

The lamb was tasty and the spicy sauce that came with it had a slow kick so the yoghurt flavours came out first with the juicy pieces of lamb and then it gradually became spicier.

This is the best breakfast taco I have had because the potato pieces are fluffy and the cheese is properly cheesy with a lean piece of crispy bacon that gives the whole taco a complete breakfast touch!

The beet fries are coated in some cornstarch flour which can be seen in the picture.
It gave them a lovely crispy coating while the beetroot is kept juicy and moist.
They were definately addictive!!
But be warned cooked beets will make your urine and faeces change colour so don't be shocked!
☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I will probably be back to try the chicken waffles again and hopefully they have other meat options instead of just beef for the burgers.

Holy Kimchi($88)
