Started off with a honey mustard dog which was really nice and juicy, but you can't really go wrong with a hot dog! Plenty of onions, mushrooms, mustard and tomato sauce and it was perfect for a sunday brunch! Unfortunately there were no milkshakes available at the time otherwise that would've been the perfect start to the day...

Next up, we tried the pulled pork sandwich. Not really what we expected, no chunks of pork and it wasn't too stringy or juicy... it really just tasted like a slightly different hotdog. The flavours were about the same - which was probably our fault for choosing the same toppings. But the pork itself was not exciting.

Perhaps the most exciting thing on the menu was the poutine - given the lack of poutine menu options around the island. This was pretty nice, and a great partner to the hot dog itself, but don't know if it would be worth the travel all the way to sheung wan just for the poutine...

All in all, tastes like a great after snack, supper, lazy sunday meal, but not exactly gourmet stuff that constitutes a full meal..

This small little shop in the rounded corner of Jervois Street comes right out at you, with its chic design from the outside makes you feel like you're in North America.
The bar, sitting below the big red sign "Yonge Piggies" in cursive writing, really catches your attention if you walk by the area.

Once you step closer, you are greeted by a old school movie style menu with a whole range of hot dogs you can choose from. The feeling you get immediately is excitement.

Although the store is small and there are not very many seats available, the overall decor is very urban (grey, big chunks of metal plates) and it just looks like a place that will make good hot dogs. You even get to see the kitchen and the grills. Excellent.

Rating: 7/10

**************************Food******************************
Rating Scale from 1-5
I realise I am quite harsh on these, but for something to reach a 5 it has to be absolutely perfect. A 5 means la crème de la crème of its type and category; my point of view is that there is no such thing as perfect in texture, taste, presentation, smell etc and a 5 is virtually impossible.
0-1: Horrific, inedible
1-2: Will not order it again, and it's below average
2-3: Average joe food. Many places can replicate or make this.
3-4: Quite good and tasty. The higher end of 3 represents that the dish is identifiable to the restaurant and has its own distinctive taste and I will consider ordering again.
4-4.9: Very very tasty and the flavours of the dish is unique to the restaurant. In particular in the mid to higher ends to the 4, the food is almost proprietor-level good.
5: Pure bliss and so perfect that it's inexpressible.

I ate for lunch and had take away:

With any hotdog purchase, you could choose a variety of condiments and supplementary toppings. There was no limit really, so I added diced tomatoes, corn, raw onions, relish, ketchup and some mustard.

The hotdog itself was smoking with flavour on the inside, and it was a nice touch to a regular hot dog. The hotdog was solid, and flavours were plentiful. I wish the hot dogs were a little thicker, which gives a little more power to the star of the show: the hot dog. A good hot dog usually has your mouth full of sausage and nicely toasted bread (which I will get to), but I have to say I was far from being overwhelmed. I was also expecting a little more charcoal flavour since they grilled these dogs in the kitchen (AND calling these hickory smoked), but the charcoal flavour was not present at all.

I was also a little unhappy when I found out that the bread was not toasted or grilled at all. The bread was strong and full of fibres, and it was not one of those (did I just eat bread or nothing? moments). The bread was also strong enough to hold the sausage without breaking at the points where the bread was connected (between top part and bottom part).

The condiments and supplementary toppings were very fresh all in all. You would expect it afterall, given the hefty price tag.

Speaking of which, when you think about what you get from the price tag it really isn't worth it afterall. The hotdog itself was $65, which really puts most people off when you look at the menu. But the decor just keeps dragging you in.

Chili Corne Carne (3.85/5)

Although I do not have a picture of this, I can tell you that this dish will make you smile. For $34 for a small bowl and $62 for a large bowl, though still expensive, makes you feel like you have spent your money much more wisely.

Especially on a cold winter day, having a bowl of chili is always welcome. It provides you the hot soup that you desire, and the spice that you need to keep your body heated up throughout the day.

This bowl of chili (which I've had on several occasions) is brilliant. They've almost got the perfect mixture of red beans, ground beef, and tomatoes in there. The flavour is very rich and the spices are present but not overpowering, and there is just the right amount of saltiness in there. The chili is thick, and downright delicious especially if you add a lot of cheese (yes its unlimited!). There also isn't a lack of ground of beef, because you'll have more than you need in there.

It also comes with a piece of bread which you can enjoy dipping. Note that this bread is not the hot dog bun you get with the hotdogs, it looks more like a baguette, which is quite soft and chewy.

Because I haven't had many chili corne carnes in Hong Kong, I have to say this is the one dish I would always want from Yonge Piggies. They have a distinctive taste to them, and I would even classify them as the Yonge Piggies Chili.

*************************Service******************************
I was greeted by a delightful lady who looked like she managed or was the part owner of the little deli. She had a great smile and explained the different types of hot dogs to me.

I felt that the overall service atmosphere was delightful and enjoyable. Even though there really isn't "service" per say that you get at a dine-in restaurant since they only deliver your hot dog, everyone was qutie friendly overall.

There were also no complaints about the amount of cheese I wanted for my Chili, or the amount of diced tomatoes or onions or corn I wanted on my dog. HK restaurants tend to be cheap on these things, but they were more than generous to provide me as much as I wanted.

***************************Conclusion***************************
Overall, the experience and the food you get is quite enjoyable. There isn't quite any other hot dog chain in HK that is dedicated like this one.
However, the price isn't too friendly and may scare off many potential customers. For the food and service you get, it certainly feels that way.

I think this is one of the, I should try it once and maybe come back again if I REALLY crave for it type of restaurant. Personally, I wouldn't come back unless I've been dreaming about hot dogs the night before and have those strange cravings for the whole morning. Is it worth it? Well, that's entirely up to you.

So this place was actually called Yonge Piggies – cute play on words there. To my delight, it was a hotdog joint, the decadent gourmet sausage and topping-covered fries kind, with about 10 different kinds of milkshake to boot! (see picture – not a very good one, but it’s my first picture on openrice!)

I had already bought lunch at K-Roll, so I decided to forgo the hotdog and get a spicy tomato soup and my all-time favourite chili cheese fries. I was sorely tempted by the salted caramel or early grey milkshakes, but it would have to wait for next time when I return to try their hotdogs. Service was quite fast and friendly, and the shop looked pretty cute, so I’m looking forward to my next visit. I wonder how their sausages compare to those at Brat on Elgin street, which I quite like.

Price-wise I saw a few reviews saying that it’s a bit expensive etc., and while I agree if this is assessed in isolation, I think for the area, the decor and the portions, it’s actually fairly priced. I mean come on, a salad takeaway in Central easily costs $85, and soups at pret are $30, while this was only $24, while my chili cheese fries were $36 I guess this is more or less the price of triple-O’s or New York Fries?

Back at the office, I unwrapped my goodies.

At first, I was a bit disappointed that the chili and cheese were separated from the fries – my first thoughts as I saw my bare fries was that they must have forgotten the toppings, before I noticed the little containers. I was also a bit sad that the cheese was nacho cheese sauce, not melty mozzarella or cheddar etc. However, there’s actually an advantage to this – you can dip the fries in the sauces without getting your fingers dirty, eliminating the need for a fork. And when I tasted the first bite of the nacho cheese sause, all my prejudices against saucy cheese melted away. I don’t know what they put in it, but it’s not like any kind of cheese I’ve ever tasted and is much thicker than normal nacho cheese sauce. It has a slight smokey bacon flavor to it, and just a tinge of spice. Yum…Chili was very good too, no complaints there.

Second up was the soup. I ordered the spicy tomato soup only because I was craving soup and that was all they had. I normally am not a fan of just plain tomato soup because it’s just so one-dimensional and reminds me a bit drinking of pasta sauce or ketchup. But today must have been the day to knock down prejudices or something, because this tomato soup was out of this world. It wasn’t so spicy like borscht at local chachantengs, but it had a note of spice to add some interest and the tomato taste was so vibrant. It was thick and velvety, and just totally changed my impression of tomato soup.

As I write this while munching on the remnants of the now pleasantly squishy fries, I’m making a mid-year resolution to give more foods a chance.

I went here for the first time with my entire family (7 adults, no kids) expecting a really great hotdog place. Since I wasn't hungry I ordered some cauliflower soup, a large order of poutine and a toasted marshmallow milkshake. It was horrible.
The service was very disorganized and though there only a few customers ordering at a time, they easily became overwhelmed. I was told I had to wait 10 minutes for my milkshake - no problem. Instead though I waited 30; the cashier didn't even start making the order of smoothies until he got about 15 orders! And at that point he was so backed up, it took an unnecessary amount of time to make each one.
Maybe 5 minutes after I ordered, a mother and her 5 children came to the shop and all ordered hotdogs. My order was extremely simple, but I knew it was only fair for me to wait until all the people who had ordered before me got their food. But when it finally came to my number... he skipped me and started working on the very complicated order of the family behind me!
After 35+ minutes of waiting (at this point my entire had already received and eaten their food), I approached the counter and asked him if my order was ready and I gave him my number. The server just looked at me, said "wait a minute" and then continued working on the order after mine! So I decided I would stand there and watch him until he felt pressured enough to give me my order. The complicated order finally finished and the worker STILL ignored me and worked on a ticket two after mine!

Finally I asked the cashier to give me my order now. That's when I saw that the cashier did not even put my tickets in the queue!!!! Finally, the cashier made my order (and it only one minute to prepare).

Cauliflower soup: I could not taste the cauliflower at all. There was so much pepper, that it completely overwhelmed all other flavors. I only only stand a few sips.

Poutine: The fries tasted overcooked. I knew they were because the cook left the fries sitting in the cooking oil a few minutes after I heard the timer the timer went off. The gravy was alright, not bad but nothing spectacular. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they used actually cheese curds on their poutine and not cheese like so many other places in Hong Kong. I ordered the large, but I only received enough gravy and curds for the small order.

Milkshakes: The Toasted Marshmallow milkshake tasted alright, thought honestly not worth the price. Perhaps the other flavors tasted better? Also, another member of my party purchased a Salted Caramel milkshake. After a few sips though, he realized that he was given Toasted Marshmallow instead. He told the cashier, so the cashier took his smoothie, poured caramel drizzle on top and then gave it back. Unbelievable!

On a more positive note, I'm told the hotdogs tasted good and there was a lot of freedom to choose hotdog toppings. Also, the decor was nice and the restaurant seemed clean enough. However, I only recommend going to eat there if you have a hours to spare and if you don't horrible service. As for me, I will never be going back to Yonge Piggies.

The name of this place intrigued me. I'm from Toronto, and our longest street is Yonge street - we've also got hot dogs everywhere in the city! So naturally, missing a taste of home, I decided to try it out.

Atmosphere (5/5): Very retro American diner style decor, with neon lights out front, a hanging stepladder, and an interesting open-air bar area for eating. The restaurant was very clean, and logically organized given the amount of space. The kitchen is open, so you can see them grill your sausages in front of you.
Service (4/5): Prompt service. The staff was very nice and helpful, and let me taste some of the cheese sauce when I inquired about it! Overall satisfied with the level of service.
Price (3/5): While not expensive, they are certainly overpriced for what they are. At $65 a sausage, they're not cheap for junk food. Tack on a drink and fries, and you're paying $80!

I ordered their Hickory Smoked sausage, with a side of Sweet Potato Fries.

Hickory Smoked Sausage (3/5): This was the star of the show. When you get your sausage, you have you choice of a multitude of toppings, including traditional ones such as relish, bacon bits, peppers, and onions, as well as some less common ones such as tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, olives, and corn. The wide choice of toppings would cater well to a variety of tastes. They are also not skimpy on their toppings, happily adding more if you prefer. The sausage itself was a bit of a letdown. It was juicy, but was not nearly flavourful enough. The casing didn't have the snap of a proper sausage, and the meat seemed a little processed and not "meaty" enough. Definitely could not compare to the sausages back home! That being said, this is still probably one of the better sausages in Hong Kong, and I would come back here if I ever craved a sausage. The bun itself was unspectacular, but not shabby either. Unfortunately, the bun to sausage ratio is skewed toward the bun, overwhelming the sausage and making it a little on the dry side. Make sure to compensate with lots of toppings!

Sweet Potato Fries (4/5): Arguably better than the sausage! The coating was crispy, with fluffy sweet potato on the inside that was just moist enough and not too sweet. They also held up in shape, unlike many places where they come out soggy and limp. Definitely worth trying! The fries looked decent as well.

Overall (4/5): While those of you who have had sausages and hot dogs in North America may be a little let down, this is still one of the better sausages in the city. The sausages are grilled, imparting that flame-kissed flavour, and if you're missing a hearty sausage from home, this might be just the ticket!

Pepper sausage w/ jalapenos & mustard: I went simple on the toppings here. The sausage was, like many have said, juicy-- and it was also pretty tender and not chewy. It was grilled well on the outside. You only get a faint hint of spice from the sausage, and none from the jalapenos. The bun's alright. B+

Cheddar sausage w/ sauerkraut, extra cheese, ketchup and mustard: My wife ordered this. I had a bite and it was pleasantly cheesy but not over the top. My wife's verdict: A

Fries: We really liked the fries. They didn't look like the were exceptional, but they were quite fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Even though we got the batch sitting under the heat lamp (and not the freshly cooked ones), we were still quite impressed. One order of fries is probably enough for 2 people. A

"Poutine" sauce: For takeaway, they give you the gravy & cheese separate, so I just used it as a dipping sauce. The cheese is not cheese curds (I haven't seen proper poutine anywhere in HK), but some sort of crumbled cheese. It was reasonably tasty, but the gravy was on the cold side, and they were pretty stingy with the amount of it that you got (it came in a little cup which they only half-filled). I'd say probably not worth it, depending on how much you love gravy and cheese on your fries. B

For two combos it was $175, which is not cheap by hot dog standards. There's not a huge selection of sausages (I think it's only four), and they don't have bratwurst, which is my favorite. A seat is tough to get as there's only a few of them. I can see myself coming back for the fries, but for lunch I'll probably head to something cheaper and healthier in the vicinity, like the Hero across the street. B+

Earl Grey

Chocolate Bacon

Pepper

There were so many sauces too, but the most important thing is whether the sauces/condiments and sausage go together in terms of taste.

The decor of this place felt quite American too with partial alfresco dining over looking the road and there was a painted hot red step ladder attached to the ceiling.

In the end, I chose the smoked sausage with extra cheese sauce.
I wanted to try the yuzi sesame sauce but it was difficult pairing it with the toppings I chose such as beetroot and cheese.
The sausage was quite big and scored so that it would cook better. The smokey taste in the sausage was strong and
the sausage itself was very juicy.
The bun was a lovely buttered bun.
Overall the hotdog did not impress me because I felt that it was slightly overpriced.

HK has always been blessed with having the best cuisine from all around the world, but a good hot dog has always been lacking...but at last, this has changed with the arrival of Yong Piggies (“YP").

I was strolling around at lunch looking for something new to try and fortunately stumbled into YP in Sheung Wan. I was skeptical at first, thinking that this would be another new place which had decor but lacked substance (foodie's worst nightmare). To my surprise, this place delivered in all aspects.

There were three choices of dogs to choose from, and I had the Picante Pepper. Aside from it being a nicely grilled sausage fr Canada which was crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, it packed a subtle heat in it for the spicy food lovers (me). One thing that I really liked when they called me up to garnish my dog was the selection of toppings that were available. It rannged from your normal onions, relish, cheese, bacon to items such as corn and beets to name a few....they were also not stingy with loading up your dog which is nice. The bun to sausage ratio is of real importance in any great hot dog, and more importantly the density of the bun is equally important. YP passed with flying colours!

On this visit I also had the chilli fries and an bacon chocolate shake. The fries were very crispy and topped off with a hearty chilli that will for sure warm u up in the cooler weather that we are now getting (next time I am getting a bowl of it on its own). The chilli had a nice bite to it with a mild kick and was a wonderful addition to the fries.

The bacon chocolate shake sounds like a real artery clogger and something that would be heavy. Again, I was pleasantly surprised by the balance of flavour and thickness of it.

The service came with a smile and the staff were helpful with my indecisiveness when ordering.

All in all, I would definately recommend YP and am looking forward to try out the other items on the menu such as the poutine and the earl grey shake.

It was a little on the expensive side...but in this town, you get what you pay for and YP is authentic as it will get without actually hitting a place in the US or Canada for a good dog.

Til the next time...eat eat eat!

Unfortunately, I was gonna try their poutine but no stock and so does the gravy.

I would say Hot Dog is a very common and general food in Toronto which costs less than $40 versus $65 in HK is quite pricy and you are not enjoying any "quality" food as we all know sausages are not healthy.

Environment: it is new and clean, but its totally opened area and the ventilation system has flown back into the restaurant when it's windy. GIven that HK has a really bad air circulation, lorries and vans kept passing by so basically its not a good place to dine in. As while you enjoying your hot dog, you breathing in the gas pollution from cars and so does the ventilation system of Yonge Piggies.

Give it a try for all Canadians! I prefer they can charge bit less for junk food (hotdog) like that.

7" of smoked Candian meat charcoal grilled to perfection,就因為這一句,本身愛吃豬的鬆弛都說很想試。
