Absolute rip off. Ordered the beef fajitas, chipotle chicken wings (6pcs) and the so-called 'Pollo Azteca.' After being informed that the Pollo Azteca would take up to 30-35 minutes to prepare as it was fresh chicken used each time, we decided to order. The menu stated we were to enjoy chorizo, chicken with stuffed cheese, and jalapeños with Mexican-style rice, and black beans. What came was nothing but 4-6 small pieces of chicken in 2 unidentifiable sauces, tasting more like a fish dish (a red-coloured chicken), and another in an off-white sauce. Small bones were contained in each of the pieces, although not stated on the menu. After waiting for almost half an hour, the vegetables we were greeted with were nothing more than a sad, uninspiring steamed surprise, and the chicken tasted frozen.
The rice was tasteless, and there were no signs of black beans or chorizo. I would expect my school canteen to provide a meal like this.
Our second dish, the "sizzling" beef fajitas, came with 3 tortillas for 2 people, and did not provide enough cuts of meat for the both of us - poor cuts that were hard to eat. They arrived before our starter (the chipotle chicken wings, which were equivocally uninspiring) and were room temperature, with an imbalance of meat to vegetables. The vegetarian option would have been a better value for money - especially for 2 students on tight budgets.
Finally, the table we were served with came with a children's high-chair which had not been cleared away from a previous function, although other ready-set tables were clearly available - away from the walls separating the play-area.
The dish of the day was the sour cream.
If you want Mexican food that is better quality, greater quantity, and more authentic, and with a fair price, then avoid El Charro.
