I'm always eager to support businesses doing something unique in the homogenous food environment of Kwun Tong, so I was thrilled to find a spot near my office offering not only standard Western fare but also some great Indian classics for lunch. The prices seemed a little high but, on a long workday, worth it to escape the tedium of the usual cha chaan teng.
Walked in and was immediately acknowledged and handed a menu. Great English spoken by the friendly staff. I ordered a vegetarian curry and some steamed rice, paid up my $116 (yikes!), and then took in the décor. The space is modern, clean, bright, and tastefully decorated a little ways off of the bustling Kwun Tong main drag.
I waited nearly twenty minutes – quite a long time, given there was only one other party in the restaurant; I should’ve taken this as a sign – before receiving my two containers of food with a smile. Delighted at the portion size – more than enough for lunch and dinner – I quickly walked back to my office without a second thought.
Upon arriving back at my desk, I took out the containers and, to my dismay, set my eyes on the oiliest curry I’ve ever seen. The entire dish was covered in a slick layer of orange grease and the sauce itself was separating. I popped off the lid, tried to pour off some of the oil, and dug down to find my dal (lentils)… which were so overcooked, they were almost indistinguishable from the rest of the dish. About five minutes of fiddling and five bites later I chucked about half of the curry in utter disappointment. Not to mention the five years of life I probably shaved off by clogging my arteries.
Bummer. Will not return.
