For the restaurant week, I and my colleague had lunch at 12:15pm, when we got there, only 2-3 tables were occupied. The waitress gave us a restaurant week menu (HKD238) and a normal lunch menu (HKD98 for 2 courses), I compared the starters and the main courses, the starters are exactly the same, only the main that they have an item in difference, the restaurant week's one included a dessert which I can order the same on a normal menu for extra HKD40. , so the difference is only tea & coffee not

At the end, we chose the normal menu which saved us HKD100 each even we added a dessert.

We had some bread and when we asked for olive oil and vinegar, it did took a while for the waitress to get.

The starter was very fresh(with mango....)

Pan roasted chicken leg with corns n rockets - the chicken was actually quite juicy, the corn at the bottom was nicely cooked .

Tiramisu was pretty good, not too much alcohol favour which I personally not like.

又在星期一到蘇豪享用Super Mondays主菜買一送一的優惠,今次來到Cecconi's Italian 。利用Table map網上訂座,簡單方便之餘,更可省卻要我用英文溝通的煩惱,好!當日上午接到再複核的電話,保證成功留座。大約七時到達,已有不少顧客,環境有情調,但並不寧靜。其中一桌約八位女士情緒高漲,聲浪亦高。桌與桌的距離很少,通道很窄,侍應在我背後來來往往,偶爾更會輕微碰到我,實在不能說坐得舒適。食物倒是令我讚不絕口的。我們吃了~麵包:很香軟,加上醋和橄欖油,實在是完美配搭。炭燒牛眼肉拌菠菜、蘑菇醬($228):牛肉一如要求中等熟,外層燒得有少許燶,肉質外脆內軟。牛眼肉真的很嫩,沒有肥膏或筋,好!墊在牛肉底下的菠菜很腍,醬汁味道亦不錯。海鮮扁意粉($178):雖然以買一送一來計,我應該選接近$228的主菜,才值回成本,但看到不少食評盛讚這碟扁意粉,的確有必要一試。橄欖油、大蒜、辣椒加新鮮的香草,味道調配得宜,十分開胃。海鮮有魚肉、蜆肉、蝦肉,種類多。唯一美中不足是扁意粉的份量不多。Tiramisu($78):又一備受推介的美食,一如好評,好味道!鮮果蛋白忌廉($78):請侍

炭燒牛眼肉拌菠菜、蘑菇醬($228):牛肉一如要求中等熟,外層燒得有少許燶,肉質外脆內軟。牛眼肉真的很嫩,沒有肥膏或筋,好!墊在牛肉底下的菠菜很腍,醬汁味道亦不錯。

海鮮扁意粉($178):雖然以買一送一來計,我應該選接近$228的主菜,才值回成本,但看到不少食評盛讚這碟扁意粉,的確有必要一試。橄欖油、大蒜、辣椒加新鮮的香草,味道調配得宜,十分開胃。海鮮有魚肉、蜆肉、蝦肉,種類多。唯一美中不足是扁意粉的份量不多。

鮮果蛋白忌廉($78):請侍應推介另一款甜品,他建議我們吃用蛋白和忌廉弄成的Pavlova roulade。賣相不錯,米白色的蛋白忌廉甜度適中,質感有少許像綿綿冰,當然它沒有那麼凍。加上奇異果、士多啤梨、芒果粒,感覺清新。

總結而言,我很滿意Cecconi's Italian的食物質素。


接近九時,侍應禮貌地要求我們結帳,因門外有其他顧客等候,如情侶們想慢慢享受,可能會感到很掃興囉。

While having set lunch, things are not complete yet without Wine, my father ordered wine which is called
Ripassa Zenato,italian wine, that comes with 3 kinds of grapes that were blended together, it's not so expensive, it cost HK$560!!! cheaper compare with other restaurants that I visited.
My mom drinks alot, Oh my God..., she's having salmon with the main course, good combination with the wine, not so dry...In my Dessert, I choose Tiramisu, it's one of the first class that I had taste. Very Soft and light.

題外話/補充資料: This is one of the best Italian Restaurant ever made in Hong Kong, with diverse people and relaxing environment. Better to have reservation first cause sometimes, it gets crowded during the peak season...

星期六來hea 食一個lunch ,於是便來到soho。選擇蘇豪是對的, 周圍的氣氛滲出一股悠閒, 不少半露天的店子, 客人都在一邊吃, 一邊看雜誌, 和朋友聊天, 十分relaxing .走到伊利近街, 記得不只一個朋友向我推介一家意大利餐廳, 說其價廉物美, 好吧, 就去試試。 Lunch Menu $98 兩道菜 ,$138 Pizza Lunch 兩道菜,十分合理。當我坐下時侍應已提醒我2:20 last order, 於是我便爭取時間為自己也為遲到的朋友點菜。由於時間關係,頭盤很快上枱, 在我的朋友來到之前, 他們已經所有頭盤上枱, 有一個還要是湯來的,服務一點也不體貼也不知禮貌為何物, 幸好點湯的那位朋友很快便來到, 湯也不至涼了。頭盤我要了Premium smoked salmon , asparagus, tomato and green leaves. 主菜要了Grilled swordfish , Carbonara 和salami pizza . 做得最好的是carbonara, 汁不稠, 帶很濃的蛋香, 唯一差少少的是不太Al Dente 但可以接受,Swordfish 也烤得不錯, 份量也很多, Pizza 愛薄的, 很脆, 雖然賣相比較差, salami十分惹味。

可惜, 服務實在趕人, 朋友想點多一杯白酒, 侍應回覆不可以, 因為他們last order 的時間時兩點二十分, 但明明另一位朋友在過了時限才叫了一杯酒, last order 只是廚房要收工, 有沒有聽過連飲品也有last order?分明叫我們快快吃完, 讓他們落場, 那就算吧,沒有下次。

想hea 食一個lunch 來蘇豪是對的, 只是要選那些3:30 還有lunch 食的餐廳, 例如在隔壁的vivo.
右面的vivo 比較好

This is one of my favorite restaurant.I love the classic caesar here. It used to be very tasty and salty. Now more plain but still good taste with generous portion of ingredient! Tasty and healthy!Pasta so so. Mushroom risotto is tasty! Portion just right.I particularly like the table bread, I usually ate two baskets!Tiramisu is one of the best, portion large!

Another fake Italian restaurant in town.We went there for lunch ytd and took the set-lunch.The roasted vegeable salad should be called roasted potatos salad, cause that's the only one inside. Pizza was bad: the cheese is certainly not mozzarella and it feels wrong.The chicken was ok, although the taste was a bit too much "in your face".We didn't try the dessert.

套餐不包括咖啡: 大部份的顧客叫咗紅酒或咖啡或其他飲品, 我哋飲熱水, 服務也特別對待.


1) 約1:15 友人們的沙律 和湯已到, 我的沙律未上, 諗住等一陣, 等咗起碼5分鐘也未有, 服務員話一陣來, 又再等多5分鐘, 我問經理, 佢反問我是否剛剛才叫, 我發怒回答 我哋全枱是同一時間落單的, 'before 1pm!’, 佢才走去厨房問吓.


2) 1:30 我哋仍未上主菜, 而其他比我哋遲來的客人己經上晒, 我哋又問咗不同的服務員幾次,換來的答案是 “one minute”…. “ three minute” …“wait a moment” +膚顯的樣子, 我們只好心急地等; 無聊的我把電話舉起, 像拍照的樣子, 不一會, 主菜來了. 之後他們上甜品和埋單時也對我們微笑, 態度變得親切有禮, 一改之前的冷言冷語!


這餐廳食物尚可, 但服務選擇性高檔, 不適合用信用咭優惠, 或不叫飲品的庶民.

We had a terrible experience with this supposed great restaurant (considering the price is not cheap too!) For start, no body gave us welcome look or faces, no smile, always looked blank like we were some pass by on the street. We ordered 3 appetizers and 5 main course to share between the 6 of us and you would never guessed that one of the main course, pasta served first. When we asked the reason of serviang the main dish first, our waiter said because we told him that we are going to share

What a ridiculous reply and he didn't even bother to apologize but walked away with the pasta with an unhappy face. Weren't we supposed the ones to be upset!! The worst thing happened was that they served the same plate of pasta again by appearantly reheating it in mircrowave. We didn't say anything but we of couse would never go there again.

Highly Recommended. This is a jewel in SoHo. Despite the fact that the location SoHo connotes good food and good drink in good company, once you've been and out of it often enough you would soon realize that it is not the case. Businesses have been shuttering often lately and new restaurants are everywhere. But Cecconi has been here for quite a while, and I think there must be a reason why it managed to remain competitive. Ambiance: The ceiling looks quite low when you peep into the restaurant.

The ceiling looks quite low when you peep into the restaurant. Yes, the shop front is. But the back has a much higher ceiling - less oppressive. An open kitchen with a marble counter top and 3 heat lamps completes the back of the restaurant. There's a small partition between the front and back - a cupboard i think. And a wishing tree.
There are slips of paper clipped onto it. Quite chic. Velvety sofas, and a round table at the corner, for a party of 4-5.

Service:

Quite lousy, seriously.
inattentive and sporadic. H wanted hot water but got lukewarm tap water instead, and the waiter had to be reminded of the request. The guy who took our orders did not manage to note that D wanted 2 starters and 1 mains, and seemed to be utterly confused when we repeated our order.
disappointing. But when the chef (making tiramisu behind the counter) noticed that I was taking pics and making notes, I overheard him tell the manager, who came over and asked if everything was alright. He also asked me what magazine I was writing for. Openrice, I told him. From his response, I could tell he obviously wasn't much aware of the influence OR has over diners in HK. hah!

Prices:

Fair. 3 courses for $140, (10% included) not bad. not bad at all for the quality.

Not much to say about the foccacia itself, but the balsamic vinegar is delicious. Strong and sweet with just the right degree of acidity. You've got to ask for it though.

Now that's what I call a proper caesar salad. The caesar salads on offer these days have been unjustly adulterated. Some people are misconceived as to what the authentic caesar ought to be like, simply because they've never had a good one. I don't know much but I know this is one of the best I've had in HK! Generous parmesan shavings (could've offered less actually
i'm not crazy about cheese), proper romaine hearts, very crisp and cheesy crouton, evenly coated dressing, anchovies...(gave them away), bacon bits, and the thin slice of ovened bread. Don't know what it is exactly, just know it tastes fantastic. Oh - for those of you who prefer less dressing, do tell the chef in advance.

Had a bite: crisp bread. Finely diced tomatoes, red onion and watercress. Great combination. Can't go wrong as long as it's not soggy.

This soup is delicious and was true to its cauliflower nature. It was hot and thick. Sadly I couldn't quite taste the saffron (partly because I've never had saffron alone). What does saffron taste like? Is it so expensive simply because of its rarity? What does it add to a dish?

Apart from rocket, there were fennel shavings inside too. I'm not a big fan. Too much rocket isn't nice, to be honest - it's peppery, numbs your tongue and its taste is too strong. As in, I'd love having rocket mixed into a salad containing other leaves, but i do not prefer a stand-alone rocket salad. However, the sweet poached pear complemented it well - and so did the thin disc of provolone (cheese). Really - pear with rocket is an excellent combination - we used to make it at home, only we used canned pears, because the syrup from the can of pears can be mixed into the dressing

Does it sound boring to you? A bit too vegan? A bit too bland? No it is not bland. It is not boring and it is my best pick among the mains. The vegetables are seasoned so that it tastes just right . We asked the chef - just plain button mushrooms and oyster mushrooms. not sure where i can get oyster mushrooms. Fragrant mushroom scents wafting to my nose, whetting my appetite. linguine al dente. No complaints there. You will also eat: parsley, broccoli, green beans (french/string) and baby asparagus. All the ingredients look simple but are fantastic when eaten together, with a bit of pasta. Man would I come back again just for this dish.

Pasta al dente.
Flavours exciting, but a bit too hot(spicy) for me, because of the chili and chili chicken. This dish may be more satisfying for men because it's got some meat in it. But then the more you eat the spicier it gets.

i have decided that i do not know how to appreciate this dish. gnocchi is a carb ball. a chewy paste. didn't find it attractive at all...drowning in the red cheese and tomato and basil sauce....there were leftovers. a lot of it too. that's a statement. would Cecconi consider removing gnocchi from the menu?

D said the fish was good but i prefer the pasta dishes! somehow they satisfy me...i am a shameless pasta lover! i had a bite. the skin was very crisp, not scaly at all and not slimy. good. hate slimy skin. Fresh barramundi, no fishiness, white and flaky flesh. not a lot of seasoning but then if the quality of the fish is excellent in itself, heavy seasoning is not called for

so damn good.
best thing about it is, it's not too sweet. candied ginger embedded inside cake. a bit crumbly. feels very much like cheesecake though. i think they must've used some cocoa powder. you...just have to try it out for yourself

It's not the best tiramisu I've had in Hong Kong, but it's definitely one of the best I had as of late. The best one i've had was homemade
, ha, ironic. But we don't make tiramisu anymore because mum is paranoid about the raw egg whites. hmph. Will find her a substitute and then I can have tiramisu at home. This one: lady fingers soaked up a lot of that tia maria (or the like), was COLD enough (good good), in the vanilla sauce you could see them vanilla pods
and i appreciated the almond biscuit flakes. Not too rich (a good thing!) But as desserts go, I did wishfully hope it'd be a tad sweeter


Conclusion:
My 5th visit will be with another party. Can't wait to try the new stuff Cecconi offers!

收工捉了朋友上 Soho 食 lunch, 嚟到大家想試幾耐的呢間意大利餐廳. 叫了一份 starter + main ($98) 及一份 starter + pizza 的 2-course set lunch ($138), 再加 $40 要了其中一款 dessert of the day, 點知除咗其中一款 starter 之外, 無一樣好食, 真係

Table bread 係 focaccia, 夠熱夠鬆軟亦夠 herbs 香及 olive oil 油香, 收貨的.

我的 starter 係 minestrone: 湯底「紅」得很, 飲落酸嗆得有點「乸」喉, 似「醋」嗰隻酸多於蕃茄 / 茄膏的酸; 雜菜配料份量勁多, 椰菜, 紅蘿蔔, 青瓜, 豆角 etc 乜都有 d, 食落就當然只有湯底嗰隻酸嗆味
絕對唔喜歡呢碗 minestrone, 早知食沙律啦.


朋友食 classic caesar salad: dressing 份量剛好, 羅馬生菜夠爽脆清甜, 整體亦 toss 得夠, 比出面好多餐廳好唔少了;「刨」落去的 Parmesan cheese 份量 ok 亦夠香, bacon 就係脆卜卜的, 仲有少量 anchovies, 加加埋埋又幾好食
雖然獨欠 croutons, 不過面頭的 melba toast (?) 夠脆又帶點鹹香, 自行「中」碎佢「扮」croutons, 效果都 ok 的, 哈哈


Main 揀了 spaghetti with lamb ragout and mint ($98): lamb ragu 聞落幾香羊味, 亦有淡淡 mint 味, 不過食落就只有茄味及「肉碎」的粗糙質感, 配上唔算 al dente, 咬口又一般的 spaghetti, 唔難食的, 不過味道「悶」得很


朋友食 pizza margarita ($138): 批底係軟撻撻又濕溼溼的, 一拎上手即「下墮」
Tomato sauce 及 mozzrella 的分佈唔均勻, mozzarella 又落得太少, 加埋面頭求其灑上的無味 basil 碎, 試了一件都唔想食晒, 朋友就直程黑晒面. 佢唔係有個 pizza 爐0架咩, 點解做得仲差過 Wildfire (http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2078606) 的?


甜品叫了一份 Pina Colada panna cotta with shaved coconut and pineapple crisps (add $40) share 食: 賣相似「椰汁糕」, 食落白色層係質地較「膠」的椰味 pudding, 黃色層就係「果膏」狀, 帶點酒味的菠蘿味嘢, 兩者味道唔算夾, 亦一定唔係 "panna cotta", 唔好食; 面頭的 pineapple crisp 唔 crispy, shaved coconut 就硬硬的又無味, 棄之不可惜. 算得上難食的一個甜品, 建議大家唔好試.


食物唔多「意大利」, service 亦一般, 店員們唔多 friendly 喎
環境就舒服又靚裝, 未至於一無是處的; 不過 lunch 每人埋單約 $150, 我覺得唔抵食, 唔會再來, 喊面亦唔想慳了.

並非見到什麼美女,可以令為食貓心動的當然是美食了. 今次與Miffy閒遊Soho時,發現了不少看來有趣的餐廳,最後被櫥窗前歐陸小品式的佈置而吸引,挑選到此店晚膳.Miffy提議試試5道菜($480@)的tasting menu. 既然當中有本貓所愛,二人便決定一試:1. 4. Tagliatelle with Italian sausage: 麵條生熟程度剛好,絕對做到al dente. 而肉腸亦是homemade貨色,再加上點點anchovy及olive的鹹香,感覺上香而不膩.
5. Apple Blackberry Crumble: 烤焗及甜度適中,好味.
+ 2 glasses of red

由送上烤得香軟,面層又有點點似肉末的focaccia麵包開始,每道菜式不但美味,更看到廚師(據說是從Melbourne來的名廚)對食物的點點心思.令我與Miffy對每道菜有期望而不失望. 餐廳佈置精緻,cosy而有格調,特別喜歡掛有Ingo Maurer作品,Zettel’z的用餐區. 不過進入內堂後,枱與枱之間頗近. 侍應招呼可以.

是次Soho之行,本貓非常滿意,此店絕對是驚喜之作. 有機會會再訪.

Having had a previous successful Buy 1 Get 1 Free outing at TIVO, when I came past Cecconi's 1 later night I asked the waiter or spruiker at the shopfront, whether they also offer the SuperMonday's Buy 1 Get 1 Free service. His ANSWER was an affirmative: "Yes we do sir.." How reassuring......So on this day, I ventured

So on this day, I ventured inside to try out the HK branch of the Melbourne Restaurant but locally managed by Dining Concepts of HK. Let's cut straight to the Food First:

PORCINI STUZZICARELLI WITH TRUFFLED PECORINO -
In Melbourne, the CECCONI'S brand was once synonymous with casino fine-dining as its corner location naturally attracted thousands of overseas tourists, as well as certain local casino gamblers seeking a convenient modern Italian dinner. Afterall, Melbourne hosts the 2nd largest population of Italian immigrants and Italian born Australians after New York, and that's not even counting Sydney! Run and owned by the Bortolotto family under the guidance of head chef Lilai, it was ahead of its time and reached its prime during the mid-to-late 90's, until Crown Casino in the mid 2000's decided to make space for the likes of Neil Perry's, Nobu's, Guillaume's, etc (and Gordon Ramsay's soon).
Nowadays it has moved into another smaller and cosier space on Flinders Lane and is run under the lesser 'Cantina' label, taking a small step backwards but nevertheless still serves solid Italian food with a modernist twist - the fact is, Cecconi's was NEVER considered the top Italian dining option anyway even during its prime time, so as others began rapidly improving their cooking techniques and menus, be they Traditional or Modernised in movement, it began relient more and more on its past glory. One of its older renowned signature Porcini Stuzzicarelli pasta dish has already been taken off the Melbourne menu since around 2 years ago (unfortunate, as it was decadent and even better than real Italian ones), so I was elated to rediscover this item on the HK's menu!
Imagine to my horror though, when I was informed that the restaurant's run out of Stuzzicarelli's... hmmmm. Nevermind I say, substitute it with Garganelli pasta instead. When it arrived, I already sensed something was visually not right as afterall, I've had this dish numerous times from years ago. As I tried hard to coax any Porcini aroma from the dish, I realised not only was there NONE whatsoever but my mouth confirmed my suspicion that this was at least 5 or 10 times weaker than it should be compared to the original Melbourne version. The sauce that adorned the pasta was surprisingly Hong Kongnised 'creamily' coated, I was scratching my head by then - the underlying Porcini essence, the Soft Truffled Pecorino's gamey yet perfumed taste, or the special Extra Virgin Olive Oil they add as a finish on the original dish was never detectable that night. It was like plain Garganelli pasta on its own.
The Hong Kong Cecconi's Caucasian Head Chef was working that night, but he did not cook this dish from what I could see but some other Nepalese or Filipino chef - but even then, the HEAD CHEF should always have ensured that each dish is upto par.

SEAFOOD LINGUINE -
Although another one of their famous Prawns Risotto with Confit Lemon was also on the menu, I knew I was being starved of good Seafood Linguine dishes so far in Hong Kong so I ordered this in the hope that it'll help cure part of the longing of a heavenly seafood pasta.
How do I put it? This dish was, as politely as I could put it - as mundane as a microvable seafood dish from 波仔 outlets or 7-11 convenience stores. What I received resembled a stir-fried seafood noodles dish that any 5 year old kid could manage on their first try. The commercial pasta strands were tasteless (probably even carried Wok-Chi..o*_^p'), rather than having absorbed the reduced seafood stock and white wines its supposedly cooked in and it never came with any seafood essence that should have coated each pasta strange. I have experienced the exact same dish in Melbourne before and this pasta, like the Porcini Pasta above, was nowhere near the base standards overseas. The Scallops were not seared enough on the edges, the salmon was over-cooked yet wet, like its steamed in low heat. The prawns had little prawns taste and seemed frozen. The whole dish from top to bottom was bland, bland and bland.
This isn't the Cecconi's I had come to know, and even by its 2nd reincarnated 'Cantina' version standards, it already performed way below par, let alone being compared to its peak form many years ago in a previous guise. The whole family's and brand name's integrity was put into tatters on this very night...

By the end of the meal, we were sorely disappointed, our jaws dropped and touching the floor - in fact, my last visit to Cecconi's present Cantina in Melbourne was only in Nov 2008, although that was because 2 other preferred restaurants in the vicinity were fully booked, but that meal although not exceptional was definitely above-average. AND THAT'S NOT THE END OF OUR SAGA...
As we proceeded to pay our account - I told the Staff that the 1st bill was wrong because it billed us for Full Price for their crappy food, rather than Half Prices as I was told and promised by the front door person. The Waiter got his Manager and retorted that I need to pay using a Citibank Credit Card to receive that offer (but which I have none), despite that part of the equation never being mentioned to me at any prior point before I walked into the restaurant.

Although I held the Asianexpats Card, I actually wasn't entirely certain this was usable at Cecconi's either - as I said above, I never remembered to check online but I only found out a bit later on after asking foodie Bonvivant under Marouche Grill.
Tonight, I also saw another person receiving EXACTLY the same deceitful marketing at OLIVES - also operated by DiningConcepts of HK: http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2035244
I paid around $520 for this amateurish meal with 2 glasses of wine, with complete mis-marketing by the staff members. Someone in this group should ought to refund the money back to me. Stick to TIVO and VIVO instead, they serve better food, have better service and GENUINELY offer the 2-For-1 offer.

The service started off a little shaky, and the restaurant was surprisingly empty for a weekday crowd. But once we seated and started ordering our items, everything went much smoother. I enjoyed the layout of the menu - uncluttered and precise.

We ordered the Parma Ham with Asparagus and Caesar Salad appetizers, while my girlfriend had the Orrichette with Prawn, and I had the Mixed Mushroom Risotto. The waitress did not exactly know what Orrichette was when we asked, so in that respect the service could use a little improvement.

The appetizers were wonderful. I have a soft spot for poached eggs on caesar salads, and when you add in pancetta I simply had to surrender. The dressing was a tad too rich, especially with the richness of the runny egg yolk. Although in no ways unique, it was a delicious start to our meal.

To our surprise, the asparagus dish also had a poached egg. Unfortunately, it worked a little to its detriment, since the egg overpowered the flavor of the ham, and rendered the dish messy.

The pastas turned out to be the highlight of the meal. The Orrichette was well seasoned, the ingredients fresh, and not heavy at all. It was definitely the dish of the night. My mixed mushroom risotta was not too shabby either. It was rich but not overbearing, and the sage chips lent it a surprising twist in flavour that was very enjoyable. My one minor complaint was that there was too much sage, ultimately taking away from the wonderful shroomy flavour.

The portions were generous, and we skipped out on dessert because we were just too full. Also, the price reflects a glass of house red - nothing notable. I would recommend this place for a casual night out, and only if you're craving Italian!
