I have eaten here twice now.
The first time i came in and "asked for" (by pointing) the yellow eel noodles, but they were sold out. Instead i got plane chicken soup. It was very plane, no spice at all.
However the chicken was marinated (in rice wine i think), and the broth was quite tasty.
I came back tonight and they were really busy, but they had the eel (i was going to leave if they didn't). I ordered the eel based on someone elses review here, so i accidentally ordered it with liver. i don't mind the liver, but i would prefer it without.
I think the Eel and the chicken would be good together. or just eel and tofu skin maybe?
The eel came the same way the ground pork comes, in the spicy oily sauce, which really helps flavor up the soup. The broth was different from the chicken soup, a darker color, and very "dirty" ..... i mean "Not Clear". It was really good.
The noodles are not "too soft" as someone else said. (at least not when i went)
The prices are good.
I was a bit disappointed that the eel came with so many pieces of what appeared to be eel cartilage. I noticed some bowls going by that seemed to have more chunks of good eel meat. However, the taste was really good, so i can not complain.
They seemed very surprised to have a white guy eating at their restaurant, and i told them i found out on openrice.
I ate one time at the more popular yunan rice noodle shop a few block away, and i really think this place is better. that place had really good side dishes that this place does not have though.
The flavor and smell of the meat sauce was exactly like i had in Yunan a few months ago. (except less spicy... which is good for me).
I wish they had better drink selection. i could really go for some soy milk or a good lemon tea with my noodles.
The tea they do serve is really strong and tasted good though. so that was a plus.
A lot of locals probably complain they have no TV, but i actually like that.
Hong Kong people have their minds numbed enough.
