I have been to the old Shalimar many times over the past few months.The food is actually rather good - if you don't like it spicy (because it's barely spicy at all).The prices are reasonable too.So, what's the problem? I have been to the old Shalimar many times over the past few months.

The food is actually rather good - if you don't like it spicy (because it's barely spicy at all).

The prices are reasonable too.

So, what's the problem? Well, it's the service. It is is perhaps the worst restaurant I have ever been to (in the entire world) in terms of service. The two large, stern women glare and sneer at you and do not even reply when you say 'thank you'. It's like the two ugly sisters from pantomime. There are no smiles in the Shalimar. Tai Po desperately needs a second Indian restaurant.

It is almost amusing - a sort of Hong Kong Fawlty Towers-type of place.

The main man in charge is a very tall Indian man who appears to have severe mental issues. He makes Basil Fawlty look normal. On one instance, he brought me the food before mumbling louding at me as I tried to eat. He would not leave me alone until I had finished. I still have no idea what he was mumbling about. It was very, very rude of him to interrupt my dining but it seems it's normal in the Shalimar. A friend of mine had his elbow knocked off the neighbouring chair by this guy - he is totally off his rocker.

I see other folk go there and try to be pleasant to staff but the staff do not even reply. Just scowl and walk off in silence. Truly awful. Please and thank you are completely pointless.

Tai Po is not the happiest town - everyone in the street seems to be frowning. But no more is this apparent than in the Shalimar. It is so weird it is worth taking your brave friends there just for a laugh to see how strange the owners are. Really funny but very unprofessional.

Give it a try if you want an 'experience' to remember, but if you drink alcohol try not to laugh as the staff behave so strangely. In the West these people would be in a mental hospital.

然後到咖哩出場喇,

我地點果兩個Excellent Lunch的咖哩一點都唔辣架! 啱晒唔愛食辣但又想食咖喱的朋友。

好香的羊肉&牛腩味唔會比咖哩味蓋上而且味道相當之配合


唔同的咖哩有唔同的味,咖喱牛腩會比咖喱羊濃味些,所以食完咖喱羊 再食咖喱牛腩會比較好。

I couldn't believe how rude the waitresses and the restaurant owner were. Yesterday, we had dinner in Shalimar Indian Restaurant in Tai Po. Since some of my friends are still on the way, we ordered a snack (curry chicken with Indian bread) and wait for them. Yesterday, we had dinner in Shalimar Indian Restaurant in Tai Po. Since some of my friends are still on the way, we ordered a snack (curry chicken with Indian bread) and wait for them. As time passed, the waitresses and the restaurant owner started shouting at us and pointing at the clock. I couldn't believe what was happening as we've just arrived for about 15 minutes! The food in this restaurant may be good, but the service is really unacceptable. Don't go to this restaurant unless you care only about your food, not the service.

Lunch:Sheekh kebabLamb roganjoshChicken vindaloonaan.The sheekh kebab was nice n hot but very dry inside. The meat was almost burnt, no wonder. Lamb was good n moist, but the curry tasted like soup. The sheekh kebab was nice n hot but very dry inside. The meat was almost burnt, no wonder.


Lamb was good n moist, but the curry tasted like soup. No body to it.


The chicken in the vindaloo had the frozen wiff. You'd think the curry would cover that, but no. It was hot and that was it.


The naan. My friend said it must've been from Africa. It was totally burnt.


All the other lunchers were having the set lunches with the non-descript dark generic curry sauce poured over their chosen meat. We should've had that instead and saved a few hundred dollars.

While we expected a normal, non-extraordinary lunch, we did get an extraordinary one. Extraordinarily bad one. The food, combined with the sour faced big india women made it quite memorable.

Wait a minute, there's more. The price: it was $88 for the sheekh kebab!!! That's $20 more than what you'd pay in TST. 30% more expensive that TST!!!

Now, where can we get a good indian meal in Tai Po? Might just have to wait for a new place to open.... please....

Taking cue from the good reviews, I had tried to get a reservation, but unfortunately none was allowed for parties of less than 4. Thus, upon arriving at around 7.30pm on a Friday night, we found ourselves waiting for roughly 30 minutes before being seated (and having to share tables with another couple). Fresh, golden, crispy, bursting with filling, bursting with flavour – you name it. A slightly negative point might be that the spices (almost completely) overpowered the taste of lamb. However, I usually expect this when eating Indian cuisine – the strong taste of spices and marinades often end up being the only things you taste, but this is part of its uniqueness and part of the attraction for me.

This was perhaps my favourite dish of the night. The marinade gave the fish an attractive bright orange colour and its incredibly savoury taste was basically the only thing I could taste, but the flesh of the fish was really soft and tender. Admittedly, it was somewhat too salty, but I loved the taste of herbs and spices. I also loved it being served hissing and sizzling.

I refer to these two meat curries together because they tasted quite similar to me. Of course, the meat was different, but both curries were very mild. Though I do prefer a hotter curry, these were fairly aromatic and went well with the garlic naan. The meats themselves definitely deserve individual mention – the chicken was mainly drumstick, and really tender, and were even without skin (they bothered removing it?!?), and the brisket was of good quality, neither too fat nor too thin, and again, very tender.

I always order this when eating Indian – its mushiness is just irresistible to me. There were also chewy cubes of Indian cheese that were spared the mash, and gave good texture, though it only carried a mild cheesiness.

Probably my least favourite item of the meal. At $25 per glass, it was quite small, especially considering the amount of ice put in it as well. The taste was also quite artificial, almost like those Sugus candies…

All in all, it’s an Indian restaurant that I would recommend. There’s a good selection of food in the menu, and I found the food fresh and prepared with care. Could this be a family-run restaurant? I usually find that the small, family-run restaurants are generally more authentic.

一個人去沙田拍夜景, 知道沙田無乜好食便轉戰大埔去, 除了陳漢記及林記點心, 這次選了這家印度菜館.甫一進去知道是印度人開的是信心的保證, 當年在上水有一家印度菜館分店 (總店在重慶大廈) 也有不錯的咖喱......點了雞肉咖喱角, 奶油羊腩 (最後卻來了咖喱牛腩.....)及牛油NAN, 前菜的胡椒脆餅很重胡椒味, 很脆, 點上青咖喱醬很惹味. 咖喱角餡料十足, 但不知道為甚麼只有兩件是雞肉, 另外兩件是薯蓉, 味道可以, 沒有因油炸過太乾及咖喱角皮沒有破爛.咖喱牛腩一般但牛腩很大件, 牛油nan沒有牛油味, 但很熱辣香口.總括而言, 聚餐一流, 價廉物美的印度菜.....可以再來

餐前小食幾片薄脆,青色醬較好味清新惹味,紅色就係茄汁而已。雜菜咖喱角話雜菜其實都唔會很菜很餃子多水份,覺得很好味,餡內薯蓉不會太乾太乾哽,濕潤度剛好。亦不會炸得很大陣很臭的油膩味。普通nan$12最簡單又好味,我都係平時食其他印度咖喱時見餐廳內印巴的的朋友們多數叫最簡單的款式而叫。事實又真的,最簡單的nan沒其他配料反而最食得出咖喱的真味道,因為不會被其他配料喧賓奪主。蔥油nan$16 表面名字會被人聯聯想成中式蔥油餅,但事實不是的。整體味道似我早一、兩個食評那墨西哥薄餅一樣nan層中夾雜了少許洋蔥及蔥,當然這印度nan蔥的比例較多食到蔥的位置時真的有點像中式蔥油餅,但個人喜歡洋蔥佔的比例多一點,因為咬落較甜較多汁很juicy會很惹味。不過這款我推測特別係洋蔥落餅前有炒香過過所以整個餅係較油膩的其中一款。全麥nan16輕怡選擇,食落很有麥香,我覺得香過很多本巿連鎖麵包。亦唔會油,味道不人工,係要啅耐少少。奶油香滑咖喱羊肉$58小甜, 因為奶油的關係的確香滑。羊肉很肉嫩唔乾身,又有點小肥,很小很小的脂肪,食完都唔會話很罪疚感。咖喱唔會話很大陣茴香那類草本香料味,我覺得很好味。食後感:沒忘

奶油香滑咖喱羊肉$58小甜, 因為奶油的關係的確香滑。羊肉很肉嫩唔乾身,又有點小肥,很小很小的脂肪,食完都唔會話很罪疚感。咖喱唔會話很大陣茴香那類草本香料味,我覺得很好味。

食後感:
沒忘記曾經食過印度咖喱有些真係很大陣herbs味,搞到食完個身都索了陣味返屋企,不過今次我試的那款亦不太大陣herbs香料味會較易令人接受,這亦係一個好開始,順路我覺得可以有下次,見隔離枱的情侶叫燒雞用鐵板上亦很不錯,有興趣的朋友可以一試。

menu都很清晰款式多,店內亦有洗手間方便客人洗手,我覺得整體算不俗又不貴。

Its the only traditional Indian restaurant in the Tai Po area, whilst some might think through this reason they would be able to serve sub-standard food, far from the case.Good pricing, relatively relaxed atmosphere and quite quick service amounts to a decent dining experience. Would definitely go again.

餐廳環境: 餐桌配以紅白格枱布, 環境舒適整潔, 牆上有印度畫。點了兩個午餐:餐湯+咖喱牛腩+白飯+熱奶茶 ($30)餐湯+炸洋蔥件, 雜菜咖喱角+咖喱羊+烤餅+啤酒 ($40)咖喱偏甜, 不辣, 易入口;肉的份量不多, 約3-4件, 但足夠一人食用;小食惹味, 不油膩。價錢實惠!!!服務員是印度人, 只有一個略懂中文, 態度友善呢!

餐湯+炸洋蔥件, 雜菜咖喱角+咖喱羊+烤餅+啤酒 ($40)


咖喱偏甜, 不辣, 易入口;
肉的份量不多, 約3-4件, 但足夠一人食用;
小食惹味, 不油膩。

服務員是印度人, 只有一個略懂中文, 態度友善呢!

午飯到這兒真的不錯,環境氣氛好,加上主理這所餐廳的是印度人,食物也較有特色。叫了個set lunch,咖哩雞雖是最普通,但也是最受歡迎的。有個餐湯,飲了很多次都不知是什麼湯不過也不錯的,我猜是黃豆湯,因為跟wall上的相片是一樣的,加上飲下去時覺得有很香的豆味。咖哩雞真的十分不錯,吃下去也沒想像中那麼辣,蠻適合怕辣的人。咖哩雞可選擇配飯或印度薄餅(nan),我選了印度薄餅 (飯,太普通了XDDDD),光吃薄餅沒什麼味,可是沾咖哩來吃真是一流最後飲品是普通的汽水,一讚的是,汽水是枝裝的最美中不足的是,客人多時上菜速度較慢,等了半天.......

平時入開大埔坐車都經過呢間印度餐廳, 加上男友住大埔經常聽聞呢間野幾好食但未食過, 所以就一時興起過去試下~一入到餐廳, 只有一檯香港人, 其他全場都係外國人, 原來呢度係外國人聚點~平時都唔多覺~原本想點一個2人set但怕食唔晒, 最後個別點左2個set dinner首先黎左個餐湯~個樣似忌廉湯, 味道一般, 唔夠熱, 跟住到小食啦, 個餐包一個炸洋蔥球&咖哩角, 意想不到好好味, 仲落足料, 好多咖哩薯仔係入面仲辣辣地, 到上咖哩啦, 我就點左個咖哩雞跟薄餅, 咖哩味道普通, 如果辣d會好d~個薄餅好味!!, 男友就要左個咖哩牛腩跟飯, 一樣無辣味同埋咸左d, 另外個set仲屯埋一杯飲品可以叫啤酒or支裝汽水, 值得一讚~服務態度幾好, 食完野好快執同好主動!!價錢平, 2個人連加一total : 110蚊~下次都會再去食單點試埋其他小食!!

I have been to theis restaurant numerous times over the last 3 weeks. This place is fantastic.I have tried numerous dish - Chicken, Beef Masala, Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Korma, Samosas and the Lassi. Have always been a great fan of Lassi's, this place does not disappoint. All the dishes are authentic, I have had Indian food in many different countries. I personally would not recommend the set dinner, it is much better to order individually. The Poppadoms did quite take my fancy -

I have been to theis restaurant numerous times over the last 3 weeks. This place is fantastic.

I have tried numerous dish - Chicken, Beef Masala, Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Korma, Samosas and the Lassi.

Have always been a great fan of Lassi's, this place does not disappoint.

All the dishes are authentic, I have had Indian food in many different countries.

I personally would not recommend the set dinner, it is much better to order individually. The Poppadoms did quite take my fancy - it is too spicy and the ketchup was a bit weird for Indian cuisine, would much prefer mango chutney.

All the currys are great, just great - I have no complaints what so ever. The different Nan and Parathas are also great.

Service is so so, but none the less we were well looked after.

食友突然來電, 說相約大埔食飯. 急急call 幾位相熟食友, 拿拿淋, call 人, 約好係大埔等, 大家未試過就幫襯下呢間老字號咖喱屋. 雖然, 此咖喱屋在我的必食list 上, 但我只是不時聽兄姊及街坊說好, 自已卻未來過. 因為大多時只是一個人入大埔, 食咖喱, 好似一個人難以試到其味道. 一定要多幾個人, 一齊食才有癮.眾人交由我發版, 前菜 Papadam, 印式脆薄餅, 是每個客人必有的, 自己食過咖喱咁多次, 大部份餐廳都會送此薄餅作為前菜. 加上那個綠色的辣醬, 更加好食.之後, 是我點下的兩個飽肚的前菜, 一個羊肉 Samosa, 印度式的咖喱角, 味道不辣, 咬落啖啖肉香, 香料味香羶味齊全. 非常香口的咖喱角, 只宜熱食.Chicken Tandoori, 印巴式鐵版串燒雞, 不知他們用什麼香料去醃製, 通常顏色是非常的鮮紅. 食印巴食物, 總會覺得滿口是香料. 無論乾身的, 同有汁的, 都一樣有茴香等等的香料加入. 熱辣辣的串燒雞皮嫩肉滑. 百吃不厭. 串燒其他肉我不太欣賞, 獨愛燒雞肉之香嫩.3份咖喱齊上, 雞的, 是番茄咖喱, 味道因為有番茄味而帶著甜

3份咖喱齊上, 雞的, 是番茄咖喱, 味道因為有番茄味而帶著甜味, 羊的, 是腰果咖喱(Korma), 同樣是一種不辣的咖喱. 有腰果及椰香, 不能吃辣的朋友, 這個Korma 就是必點的咖喱之一. 另外一牛肉 Masala, 以前說過 Masala 是我最喜歡的咖喱. 香味充足, 辣味適中, 不過, 食落, 呢度既 Masala 都唔辣既. 香味就夠, 但應有既辣辣地 (Spicy) 就欠了.

食咖喱, 通常都會跟薄餅, Naan Bread, 沾上咖喱汁, 摵大塊少少, 夾著肉連汁一起吃, 更加好.

一讚的是個印度黃飯, 除了上次在重慶食巴基斯坦菜之後, 很久沒有食過正宗的印度米了, 粒粒米, 不粘, 瘦身細長. 味道甚香. 早知能食到真正的印度 Basmati Rice, 我會叫多一個白飯, 更能食出其飯香.

每人一杯 Lassi, 食辣可解辣, 天熱可消暑. 四個食友, 中青少三代齊集. 談話沒有代溝, 因為話題不離食同回帶.....回帶, 我同紅叮兩個後生既.....有經典台嘛, 答得到咀既.
