I frequent Habib's Tin Hau shop whenever I'm in the area. When I heard that one opened in Kwun Tong/Ngau Tau Kok, my wife, son, and I paid a visit.
Big Mistake. Even though we came on a Sunday after 2pm, we were not expecting such a below par experience.
We ordered 3 Kebab's: Kebab Chicken Tikka; the daily special (Fish Kebab) with a side order of Falafel; and the Kebab Donar (Lamb Roast).
The 2 meat Kebab's had lots of shredded lettuce, a scattering of diced tomato and onion, a few bits of meat, and some mint-yogurt sauce all wrapped inside a pita. However, the foil wrap was embedded within 1/2 of the kebabs. We had to unroll the kebabs and repackage them san foil. The chicken had a rotisserie-like taste but was dry. The lamb was flavorful but had gristle and lots of connective tissue.
The fish was the best out of the 3...and the least expensive. The fish pieces were battered and deep fried. They were packaged with the same shredded lettuce/tomato/onion/mint-yogurt inside a pita. Luckily, the foil was only embedded 1/4 of the way into the kebab. It was much easier to unroll and repackage it. The fish tasted of your standard egg/flour batter with no extra seasoning except maybe salt. At least it wasn't dry like the chicken.
The side order of falafel come by way of one of the staff insisting on walking it over to my table. Previous to the falafel, I had bussed the kebab orders to my table myself (seating is similar to a food court). After asking me to have a seat and putting down the falafels on my table, he asked if there were anything else we needed. We said no....AND THEN HE ASKED FOR A TIP!!!! I thought I had misheard him and asked him to repeat his statement. Sure enough, he repeated ASKING FOR A TIP!!!
That pretty much ruined the entire visit.
I expected I will frequent the Habib's in Tin Hau instead of this location in Kwun Tong/Ngau Tau Kok. Tin Hau's Habib's is 15% cheaper, does better preparation of the food, and doesn't have staff BRAZENLY SOLICITING FOR TIPS AT YOUR TABLESIDE.
