Nice skewers but a bit pricey
Nan Tei (The Pinnacle)

Place is nice yet dark and on the day we went, the restaurant was almost full. Therefore the waiters looked overwhelmed and we had to call them few times as they did forget some part of our order. The food itself is nice and only cook by order so you need time to enjoy as it won't come all together. :)While I was fine with the experience, I think it could have been nice that they provide some sets or give a discount after X skewer ordered. Also when possible they should take some notes because they forgot the pineapple wine and 2 skewers we ordered. They offered an iced mochi at the end which is always nice. The place is fine to go with friends or colleagues but expect some noise as skewers come with beers for most of them. So not the most family friendly place.I recommend the beef tongue skewer.…Read More

Great value for money

Second time I go to this sukiyaki place.Service is amazing but better to come with a Cantonese speaker as the menu and staff mainly speak in Cantonese (and I assume some Mandarin due to the location). The price is reasonable with regards of the quality of the meat (wagyu A5), location and how serviceable is the staff. My only request and comment would be to provide a bit more vegetables (yes, I know you go there for the meat 😅) and be less cheap on the tsukemono (honestly, I felt I just got the leftovers of it - look at the picture).I still recommend the place and to not overorder. Normal or medium portion are more than enough honestly. (Been there for lunch without having breakfast and large portion was too much)…Read More

Looks better than it tastes
Chef’s Cuts Restaurant & Bakery
2025-07-30
Got a breakfast there. Many aspects on which I wasn't happy. One staff was very rude and removed a bottle of tap water while we spent for 3 or 4 people.Layout is awkward with bar table left for having breakast so we sit on the restaurant area because lower tables were occupied.Coffee was small and taste was very light.:(Bakeries have been reheated in microwave making them soft and not crusty at all, also I think the taste of some other food got mixed with the vanilla tart I picked.Cinnamon danish was tasteless and just topped with cinnamon so very light taste of it.Bagel came plain regular and they asked us to pay for a small portion of jam... 👎On the positive sidelace is clean with nice light during the day, they have a lot of variety for danish and bakery, the price is reasonable enough, almond croissant was good…Read More

Great bakeries and nice coffee

I was in TST and craving for some nice bakeries. The closest option was bakehouse but even at 8.20am people were lining up forever.Remembered that one block away there is surely the most consistent and similar option.Reached out the place, no one queuing, tons of great options with even some seasonal specials.Fresh, crusty, mouth watering egg tarts.Service and staff super kind and dynamic.Too many options so it was hard decide and picked 4 items for myself 😅2 crusty egg tarts (among the best in HK), 1 oatmeal cookie (a bit too sweet) and one almond croissant (it looks small but fulfilling nevertheless).I cannot recommend the egg tart more. the dough is crusty that you can hear it when you bite in it and yet the filling silky smooth.I left the store with full belly and happy face.Definitely worth the trip especially if you don't want to queue for something you had already. 😂Only one negative comment, I was a regular and didn't come for a while, feel the size of some bakeries got smaller... 🥲…Read More

I won't come again and I might not be the only one
Tsukanto
2023-06-11
Location : 3/5Decoration : 2.5/5Food : 3/5Service : 1/5Maybe because they opened recently, but me and some other clients had the worst experience there.Waited 40 minutes to get a seat.Seats and table still dirty. No menu given and waitress expected us to order without it.We order basic dishes udon with ebi, and cod fish with rice. The second dish never came, we finished the first dish, added some tofu to wait longer, but still no sign of the fish. (I saw someone ordering the same dish, arriving before us and she got 30 or 40 minutes after her husband finished his food).I cancelled it and saw other tables having issues as well with some dishes (1 fish, 1 pork belly).I saw the manager apologizing to another table and client with unhappy face. No gesture for anyone of us.Looks like the brand has a good reputation so wanted to try, but no way I'm going to get there again. The dishes we had were acceptable but pricey. I was craving for tsukemen and they served cheap pickled cabbage. While waiting for the second dish, we let the tray in evidence so that someone could remove it... It never happened even though they came to our table 3-4 times...It looks like it goes faster if you only order tonkatsu, but not sure as I saw people finishing large beers and still waiting for it.There is no point in running everywhere, just be efficient and care about your customers.…Read More

Biggest disappointment in 2022
Cafe Causette
2022-06-12
Location : 4.5/5Decoration : 4/5Food : 2/5Service : 3.5/5I have been and still am delighted by pastries and cakes coming from café Causette, and I wanted to try the café itself for more than 2 years but never had the chance before. So I surely had very high expectations before I finally came here. While I was expecting a small space with few seats I realized how big is the dining room there and with some elegance using French old posters and advertising. Also, since I've been a customer for their cake they had me in their database which is sometimes appreciated.Waitresses were very helpful and we had a nice table with large comfortable chairs.First mistake though, we were 3 and got only 2 paper bags for our masks.Another thing that was not very impressive is that there was no menu for breakfast and it was impossible to know what were the bakeries and pastries available from the menu.So you may have, according to your table, to walk until the bakery place. After ordering, I realized many disappointing points.First, most of their danish and bread are not bake on the spot and daily made. The dough for cinammon roll, served sourdough bread, mango danish, where clearly not freshly made and puff pastry dough sometimes still not baked enough. So none of these 3 items was crusty as I would expect. The cinnamon roll was the biggest disappointment. It was heavy, tasteless, coarse. Many adjectives that do not match the place nor standard of an institution such as the Mandarin Oriental... The almond croissant was surely the most valuable item and their Madeleines while having the right taste were lacking almond powder and the homy feeling. We also got some waffles and here again I felt it was not fresh and the taste was super plain with no vanilla nor anything that would give a kick to it... :( Was it because it is dedicated to kid?The squized juices were luckily fresh enough. And the bread disappoinlty served with unsalted butter and we had to ask for a salted option...Bread itself was slightly crusty but the crust didn't stick to the soft part and you can easily guess that it was frozen from the texture and the taste.Since we wanted brunch style we also ordered a tataki. It was refreshing and satisfying but not up to the standard I expected. Vegetables were pretty plain here again.French fries were ok, but their color made me think here again they are not homemade... which is quite disappointing for a price that would you a full meal in a fast-food...Kudo for their coffee blend that was strong enough and not too bitter for me.The service is nice and staff are attentive but not very organized. Sometimes we had 3 people surrounding us and each of them served one item. Also, they put everything on the table instead of asking us whether we would prefer all together or start with sweet or salty dishes.I am also surprised from a place that pretends to mimic a parisian / French place to come with unsalted butter.. In conclusion, surely a place I should better not have expected too much, because I have only seen one unique perspective.I would still recommend their cakes that are way above the average in Hong Kong, but plenty of better options for bakeries and breakfast.I'm attaching only one picture so that you understand how deceptive it could be.…Read More

Overrated and far from Japanese standards
SAKImoto bakery 嵜本 高級Shokupan專門店 (海港城)

I won't spend too much time describing a poor experience.Breads that are supposed to be premium and main products are dried, tasteless. We got some butter that I suspect has been reused and got a rancid taste. The salad we ordered was not super fresh and most of the ingredients were obviously industrial. The jams, second flagship products were not as subtle as Japan could produce.Prices are fair according to location, but service was weird to say the least... …Read More

It could have been way much better if only...
Artisan De La Truffe
2021-05-22
Location : 4/5Decoration : 4/5Food : 3/5Service : 2.5/5We've been there for the brunch menu on a Sunny Saturday.Weather was nice and worth to mention since the restaurant is offering large windows with a decent view. The main concept of the restaurant is to have truffle on top of any dish including desserts.Starting with an assortment of breads (not homemade to my knowledge) with some unsalted butter (it may sound insignificant but not for French people) and some kind of cream cheese...None of their truffled olive oil offered and no olive oil at all on the table...Realized that there was not salt and pepper neither...For starters, I got the scallops while my partner got the foie gras.Portion was fine but the seasoning not enhancing the scallops. I couldn't distinguish whether the scallops were fresh or frozen to be honest. The foie gras was nice but it was surprising that it was just served with some fruits and nothing more (specific bread, chutney or confit).Soupes (1 lobster and 1 mushrooms) were OK and unfortunately I didn't feel the the truffle shavings and truffled oiled enhancing whatever.(some croutons here or shredded cheese for the lobster soup would have been a plus)Came the main dishes, catch of the day was seriously ridiculous... and simply pretentious. The fish was well cooked as least.Pasta with king prawns and lobster sauce was plain and ordinary. I had to request some additional pepper and olive oil to "elevate" the overall taste.(I think some grilled chopped garlic or smashed nuts or pistachio would have create some great combo). Finally, dessert of the day was an apple crumble that is not even worth to mention.Coming surely out of the fridge, not crispy as a crumble should be nor satisfying as caramelized apples should feel. Beside the lack of salt and pepper (not even proposed), oil on the table, I was particularly disgruntled by :1) the fact that the waiter didn't let me taste the whine and just poured it in my glass. (luckily it was not a bad one)2) they don't shave truffles in front of you so you just have no idea how fresh or what kind of truffle you are eating3) seeing another waiter crossing the restaurant with a pile of dirty dishes and opposite to the kitchen...  All in all, I don't think the experience was this bad and I did enjoy the food that I would rate as decent, but I would definitely not recommend it as a good option.…Read More

Quelle deception! (Disappointing)
La Vache!
2021-01-21
Location : 3.5/5Decoration : 2.5/5Food : 2.5/5Service : 2.5/5Since I arrived in HK in 2016 I always avoided “La Vache" since I didn't get the concept of just having what we call commonly a "steak frites" in France.Anyway, my partner who insisted and had good memories from the Central Branch, brought me there and the waitress mentioned that we had to wait 45mn... Here was not keen to but well...Anyway, we came back, sat down, nothing special to mention except that I was a bit surprised that there was no menu at all.The waitress asked how we would like our meat to get cooked and voila. We started with a very boring green salad which I felt was seasoned by some industrial vinaigrette or the type we have in our French canteen. Then came the main, the steak and French fries.I asked to the surprised waitress the origin of the meat and whether I could get some mustard (only one option of mustard...).I got as an answer this is USDA beef... Huh OK but which grade ?I didn't have to look that long to understand that the French fries were not fresh homemade ones and the taste was not bad but seriously tasted the same than those from Big M... Weirdly also go 2 small bottles of mayonnaise and ketchup (not so into anyway and don't like to waste)The meat itself was really nicely cooked (rare for me and medium rare for my partner) and the seasoning evening very basic (salt and pepper) was satisfying.Unfortunately the meat was a bit chewy and mine even got nerves (see also picture). The so-called secret sauce is luckily a secret because not sure anyone wants to copy it. Too buttery, greasy and lacking clearly flavor.A nice pepper sauce would have been much better here.Regarding the dessert, I took a look as I have a real sweet tooth and didn't feel any of them were homemade, we also looked around us and most of the people who ordered some just didn't finish... so we just passed. In conclusion, I would say the steak is of a quality of any decent corporate canteen that we have in France and I just don't get why people are making such a big deal of it. It's not the cheapest one we can find in HK and far from the best. So for me, it's not a good value for money.Just a word about the service, while the waitress was polite and was professional, I moderately enjoyed that it took ~8 minutes to get the bill while next to us the lady at the reception was literally playing with her phone...…Read More

Decent ramen
Ramen Jo
2020-09-06
Location: 3/5Decoration: 2.5/5 the layout is interesting thoughFood: 3/5Seevice: 4.5/5Living not far, I was very eager to try this ramen spot for a while.Surely because of its layout, I felt that I had to try it and finally surely had too much expectations about it.Ramen were good as most of the good ramen spots in HK.Broth was rich and flavour intense but nothing outstanding.Noodles were nice and meat and condiments pretty standard. So all in all, why not if you're craving for some but you will pay the location somehow and I didn't feel there was something anything special to mention.Lunch menu can be a good deal though and service were very nice and pleasant. Will recommend only if you do some shopping in this mall.…Read More

Best sushi experience EVER!!!
Sushi Saito
2020-09-06
Location: 3/5Decor: 2.5/5Food: 5/5Service: 8/5I had the privilege to go to Sushi Saito just after the beginning of the pandemic and the announce of a case at the "4 seasons".Somehow it was my luck to try this restaurant that is usually fully booked for months. While I expected few cancellation we finally realized the day we went there that we would be the only customers for the evening.Hence, I let you imagine the immeasurable pleasure of having a super trained starred sushi Chef only for the 2 of us.We've just been delighted. How accurate and friendly Fujimoto-San Master is.The pleasure it was for us to share with him an amazing selection of fine sake and obviously those delicate and tasteful sushis made by pairs, pleasing as much our palate as our eyes.I had the chance to visit Japan many times and some sushis chefs out there and it's not overrated to say that the overall experience at Sushi Saito that day, was way beyond everything I had before. Also, I was very surprised that the fresh Japanese fruits just ended the meal as it always should. By a refreshing sweet touch that does not leave you fully stuffed.EX-CEL-LENT and just highly recommended.PS: thanks again Chef Fujimoto-San, his second and also our host at the reception for that night. We will surely never forget it. …Read More

La Rambla
2020-09-06
location: 4/5decoration: 5/5 food: 3.5/5service: 3.5/5We went to La Rambla twice and tried few of their tapas.I highly recommed their paella that I felt were very fresh and nicely executed.Compare to those you can get in Spain, I really think that the quality is close.Wine selection is decent as well but cocktails and sangria were (very) disappointing...I was clearly less enthusiastic about their desserts.Churros were "lazy" and amount of chocolate looked and was very cheap (compare to great ones you can get in Madrid for instance).Besides the food, the overall ambiance with the view on Victoria Harbour remains the main attraction. Very enjoyable to eat out or sip a fresh wine on their terrace.Price-wise is OK regarding the location and other types if stores and restaurant you have in that mall.Overall, not a place that I would strongly recommend but I wouldn't mind to go again and enjoy some delicious paella with the view.…Read More

Dim Sum Library
2020-09-06
Location: 4.5/5Decoration: 3.5/5Food: 5/5Service: 3/5I used to go to the PP branch and was so glad they opened one in Kowloon.Usually, I'm not so into fusion cuisine as I feel chef are trying to hard at being innovative or creative and finally forget about taste or what makes a dish unique. But there is no such thing at Dim Sum Library. They just succeeded to enhance whatever Dim Sum with rare and high quality ingredients such as truffle, black garlic, Wagyu beef, etc...The range of Dim Sum is so large that even after 7 or 8 times there, I still didn't try everything.I need to admit that I am so fond of some of them as well that I keep ordering the same ones without changing much.Even their selection of tea is nice with delicate flavours. The 2 things that I find not at the same level than their food is the service (not that bad but sometimes slow or disorganized). Decoration is "original" but this is it... Highly recommended and you may see me there as I still have plenty to test.…Read More

Frantzén’s Kitchen
2020-09-06
Location: 3/5Decoration: 3.5/5Food: 4/5Service: 4.5/5We went to Frantzen to celebrate a birthday. (Not mine but... I wanted to try that place for a while...)The great thing about this place is that they review classics with a Scandinavian taste or different twist but it means also that you may not enjoy everything...I personally love it. I enjoyed surprising textures and undiscovered flavours (such as this lichen sushi). So it might be not for you if you like to stick to the classics or not enjoying much try new things.Everything is accurately explained by their waiters and it really adds value to the experience. Because YES!, this is surely what it is, a culinary experience more than dishes with ultimate finishing. But don't be misled, everything is done with thoroughness and precision. The place itself is cosy even though I felt they tried to maximise the space rather than comfort. Also I was a bit disappointed by the selection of wine and champagne, that was too narrow in my opinion. In conclusion, very happy with the experience, not sure I will renew soon but still warmly recommend it.PS: I'm French and must admit it was surely the best French Toast (croque monsieur), I ever had. We even reordered another one...…Read More

Ensuring also they get your order correctly.Once they even heard us about celebrating our friend's birthday and offer her a cake with a candle.Sweeeeeet! So overall good value for money.…Read More
